Calcium and Water PH/Hardness/Alkalinity. Huge w/ Rabbit Snails & most freshwater invertebrates. In my experience, a PH of 7.0 minimum to preferably 7.2-7.4, w/ a water quality being slightly Harder and Alkaline than Moderate or Average has always been my go to when housing snails w/ live plants & fish. In gist, the fish & plants I've housed together, always adapt better to these above listed water parameters, than well, the snail/invertebrates shells do having to stand a Lower than Moderate PH w/ Softer, more Acidic water quality, otherwise. It eats away their shells, plain & simple. Now, to build up shells your gonna need to provide Cacium. There are store bought additives of concentrated Calcium you can buy & add directly to your water, or: 1.) Kuttlebone, given to birds & parrots for beak Calcium & sharpening. Buy it, boil it & sink it (⅓-½pcs of @ a time.) They'll find & feed on it, providing a great source of Calcium. Whatever is uneaten, will eventually dissolve inserting any remaining Calcium deposits from said pcs., into the aquarium water itself. 2.) Antacids, specifically TUMS, Fruit Flavored... Drop in 1 or 2, once or twice weekly. They go ravenous for them, & they are filled w/ Calcium. But, keep an eye on your water parameters, do tests weekly, because w/ each dose you'll see slight spikes in PH. Hardness & Alkalinity levels. Use PH Down/or Tetra Correct PH 7.0 Tabs (Tetra Correct PH 7.2 or 7.4 Tabs when/where can be found or online) which is also safe for ALL plants, fish & invertebrates. In combo w/ regular water changes & you'll be fine. Lastly, Overall Health & Wellness. Use freshwater Aquarium Salt. Dose per instructed. Don't overdose. Water becomes Brackish. Condition required for most freshwater snail species eggs to fertilize, mature & hatch. Soon be overrun w/ baby snails. Not to mention, most freshwater sold fishes/plants do not cope well in it. I just bought some rabbit snails, also not really knowing much, just thinking they were cool, and this video was very helpful to expand their diet and know their normal behaviors. Thank you!
Great video thanks. Working on mine now!! I have been using glue to attach them to my pond gravel i have in my tank to keep them in place as they seem to break loose once in a while. So far so good.
My problem is that I live in Puerto Rico and every time I order red plants they arrive wilted and when I plant them in my aquarium they don’t seem to adapt and wined up dying. It’s so frustrating. Any tips on how to prevent that?

I grew up in Stamford & yea I'm 48 years old now & it didn't open till I was like 14 or 15 I think & i went with school once & with friends another time & we had a great time. But I haven't been in well over 25 Years so now we plan on going to Norwalk for the day & taken my best friend that lives with me & my mom & her son there. I herd they have some really great things to do there not. So good lock with your page I subscribed to it & liked your video, For all I know I might even know one of you through family or a friend. someone told me you have to put a rusted foundation steel rod and that helps the rotala take on the red. I hope my rotala sp. Green turns red and I hope my fish dont eat the rusted steel
hey, I have them with African cichlids (mainly peacock cichlids) and i haven’t had a problem so as long as your goldfish aren’t too big I think you would be ok :)
Rabbit snails are tropical and goldfish are cold water, so it’s not a great idea to mix them. If I were you I’d put the goldfish in a pond, where they can reach their full potential size.
I’ve been working on my bush. I tried some of your ideas and it’s really become a nice dense bush. I’ve even shown my friends how to grow and trim their bushes. Thanks
What do you use to remineralize your RO water? I have salty shrimp gh/kh+ for when I use to keep Crystal reds. Can I use that or is there another product you recommend?
