Documenting my progress as I learn to repair and restore pinball machines.
See the entire series of blog entries for my first attempts at restoring pinball machines (with videos, pictures, and writeup) at havepinwilltravel.wordpress.com.
You might as well learn from my mistakes and save you the pain!
New to the hobby. I’m about to buy my first pin. I’m a rookie so Any advice for me ?😎. I’m buying a little chief from 1970. Is this one difficult to work on ?
Great. But what do you do if the reels don't reset.? My player one reel doesn't reset on my Gottlieb "Target Alpha". When I took the reel out, and actuated it by hand it moved slowly and sluggishly. I took the reel apart, cleaned it, Superlubed it, and now it actuates by hand cleanly through all the numbers. Still won't reset and doesn't even try to. The other reels reset.
Hi ! Thank you very much for making that video 🙏 Full of good infos ! Im about to start trying to bring back to life a Sky Jump… I was wondering… Have you got a digital copy or high definition photos of the schematics that you would consider sharing 😬 My original copy is horrible and unreadable 🤦🏼♂️ Thank you, Best regards !
At 5:38 when describing the tall pegs I think you mean the single tall peg with your motor diagram is showing that one longer peg in 3 different positions (at the E level) as it travels 120 degrees at a time - it will activate 1E, 3E or 4E (corresponding to double bonus, extra ball, and special respectively).
Exact issue. You showed the exact symptom I was having. and I was able to find the switch and adjust. Visually looked good, but after cleaning/adjusting, resolved the issue. Thanks
I talked with you years ago when you were first printing back glass cover looks nice. I have the same machine, my back glass needs some repair, not as bad as yours was. Looks like it was a lot of work great job.
Hello, can you give me your email address so that I can send you a video of the behavior of my flypper machine gottieb wild life hank you for your feedback. Thank you for your help.
Yes, and i really appreciate how you end up going to the schematics so we can understand the logic behind the circuit in question. Great stuff. I reviewed a few of these torture tests videos very early on in my pinball quest (couple of years ago now) --and I have reviewed some again now ---they make much more sense now after immersing myself into other areas of EM machines.
Thank you for taking the time. I find these vids very useful. Anybody got any ideas on fixing / replacing a more complicated plastic piece, i.e. the central plastic on Williams "Full House"?
So I just picked up this pinball machine and I don't know anything about it I was hoping you could help...... it. Needs a little bit of restoration .... thanks in advance for any help.!!!
I just acquired a royal flush, and I'm completely new to all of this. it's doing the never ending motor turn, and I've been scratching my head trying to figure out how to sus out the startup sequence so I can start troubleshooting methodically. thank you so much for this video!
You end up with a final product in Photoshop. What did you end up printing this on, and what kind of printer did you use? That seems to be the big dark secret in all these kinds of videos. Need come closure. Finished product? How did you get there to the finished product?
Where is the "Player Unit" in the machine? That's the disconnect with many of these kinds of videos. The authors assume everyone knows where in the machine the parts are located. It would be nice if the units on the schematic, such as the player unit are mapped to the actual machine so we know where they are.
I have one problem with my spirit 76. Every time it hits something with 100 or more points, it gives 1000 on the bonus latter. Can you send me some advice as to where/ what relay I need to tune? Been working on it a few hours and can’t figure it out.
You never identified on the schematic which switch you blocked on the AX relay. Was it "S"?? You said it was the 5th one on the relay in the video. Edited in July...going over this video again. The red text you inserted on the U relay depicting a schematic error....Are you saying the R is supposed to show normally open? What about the H? Your narrative leads me to think that the schematic is correct, that it shows normally closed at startup. So I'm confused, because you circled both of them, leading me to think both are wrong. And finally, at the 8:00 mark you depict the O relay. You inserted a J (double bonus) switch and J switch on the lower right. My 76 Royal Flush is essentially the same here with this part of the functionality. But my schematic does not show the J involved with the O relay. So I'm confused there too. I know this is years later, but your videos are good. Wish you could show more of the game locations, showing where the switches are.
I have done a decent amount of work on pinball and I'm always challenged by schematics. It seems like im better at just putting paper in the suspect leaf switch to find my issue. Having said that I found that I could blurt out the cause of your issues before I even needed to stop the video. I actually think that the handwritten schematics make it easier to identify the issue because the logic is isolated to the area affected and does not extend to the full 8 page schematic. Having said that I would think that showing a printed schematic in a video would not be a copyright violation as long as you own the schematic. I would think that I could read a passage from a book on a you tube video and then show the passage without violating a copy right. I do agree with you however that the company that owns the ip of Old Gottlieb are active cease and desist letter senders.
After watching your video, I focused right into the P2G switch and finally fixed the extra player problem on my SO76, I was getting so frustrated before--THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!
I dont mean to be so offtopic but does any of you know of a method to get back into an instagram account?? I was stupid forgot the account password. I love any help you can give me
Thanks to this video I found out why both 100s score reels in my Gottlieb Out of Sight would not advance the 1000s reels....same problem as you discovered, the switch that closes on the withdrawal of the reel solenoid was not making good contact. I thought it must be a problem with the 100 or 1000 relay since it was just occuring in the 100s reel and for both players. Instead it was the same problem in both 100s reels. Cheers. 🙂
