For someone who hasn't played either, but does enjoy Vermintide 2: Is Darktide or SM2 more bang for the buck? SM2 seems extremely bare bones and 10 years old already with very little content for 60€ minimum. Darktide seems modern take on horde shooter (LFD, Vermintide) and has had time for bug ironing.

For those who want that gametype, Space Marine 2 looks great! If you like Bayonetta type games and are a fan of 40K it's looking really good. Despite Tyranids looking great though I'll stay with Darktide. Because I've never really enjoyed 3rd person. This all said, if anything the game shows how Darktide needs more classes, more maps, more weapons and story added to it.

You should use the bulwark who also has this melee available. The Chapter standard is way more effective than the jump pack.

My computer struggles with this game. Multi-minute load screens, the cutscenes just dont work, and my record was 20 minutes of loading trying to get past the main menu. Once im in-game, usually it runs good. But god those loading screens

honestly dude, skill issue. I'm having zero issues. Parry and dodge to get those armor segments back and attack as soon as you take damage.

I would much rather them buff player damage and enemy numbers. Small enemies should die in one maybe two hits, but have there be twice as many. Same with larger baddies, it sucks wailing on one all day as a melee class, youd think assault would do more than bulwark but nah

I agree melee has to be better. Sitting there hitting 1 elite 7 times while 50 different enemies are smacking me while waiting to get smacked with m nerf sword. If I have to be max level to be powerful why tf am I spending all of my time being weak on the 2 harder difficulties.

Yeah, I hadn't seen much gameplay of the bulwark first-hand and just from its Ult ability it's extremely broken when put in comparison to the current health system and the other classes. The gameplay just looks like an unfun war of attrition as you slowly get picked away at until you have no more health left, not to mention the anemic amount of ammo you get is a joke. As you invest time in the game, you'll inevitably be inclined to play ruthless for its rewards, where the elites are sponges, enemies hit like a truck, stims are weaker, and ammo crates are rare. Such cheap and lazy ways of balancing that I've been holding back on buying this, yet.

on a visa vie with SM2 just as you say if you run through the enemy lose interest I would have liked the action to be more constant as it is in darktide there are large sections where you are just running from point A to point B with no interaction at all or when you are in a stand and hold section where if you clear the enemy fast enough you have to stand around and wait there are only a handful of sections that are continuous waves and even on those when you complete the sub-objective the enemy just stop for me personally I would rather feel that there is urgency to move on but a penalty to going to fast

The gripe I have with the game right now is how flimsy I feel... Feels more like a struggle to survive to the next QuickTime reaction/execution than I do wading into combat as humanities finest. Armor gets shredded so fast even by baseline enemies.

Brother, Tyranids can cut almost anything in a single sweep. That tough ceramite armor lets you live for a couple of swipes, even from a Hive Tyrant. Now that's protection. The Emperor himself is protecting you the entire time my brother, have faith.

Season 3 is 2025, so a season is 3-4 months. The 6 missions at start is very poor. It's about as many maps as Darktide had, except DT used each map to make two missions. It was still kinda lacking but better than nothing. In exchange, we get PvP, which honestly might make up for that if you like it. I think the game will feel fully complete in season 4 when horde mode releases.

The speed running in operations is starting to worry me a bit. I don't mind if people want to do that on their own time, but it takes forever to get into a match, and I want to fight the enemy, not run past em. At this point, I would rather take the brain dead bots over a speed runner.

I'm gonna miss Darktide / Vermintide's combat rythm. Especially with big heavy weapons like the Thunderhammer, where the entire point is to time your heavy attacks while dodging. Plus the bonking, but we seem to have that at least in some capacity. Rolling around and being locked into animations... I don't think I'll enjoy it as much, although I did like WWZ combat loop also. But definitely not as subtle. Anyway, Bonking Zealot is gonna be tough. My Darktide build is kind of a mix between Assault and Bulwark with some decent anti-large capabilities, doing mostly crowd control for the backline and supporting my team with the Chorus, but I also had good long range snipe capability with the revolver when needed. Fun and efficient enough (Auric Maelstrom QP, about 66% success). All in all, I want Darktide gameplay in SM2 😊

I have never particularly enjoyed 3rd person lock-on melee, with the only exceptions being a few RPG's. Largely preferring the gameplay of Chivalry and later Dark/Vermintide. So for me the gun play would have to carry the game, and it looks okay for what it is.

SM2 is jost to "console" for me... i dont like the controls. i dont want to watch the same "cool" finisher over and over again - but i have to since it regens armour. i dont like you cant create a real charakter. i dont like a cant always play the class i want because its 1 maximum per team and quick game doesnt care for the class i have choosen ... honestly midly dissapointed

EXCEPT a Space Marine is Transhuman levels of stronger faster smarter flexible dexterous agile mobile hostile ALL the adjectives, than a human. Especially in power armor. They are every category of Olympic athletes compared to para-fucking-palegics.

I wanted space marine to be faster with more enemies. I got used to crackhead flow state in darktide 3rd person and expected a similar thing from SM. I wanted space marines to be the super fast monsters i always imagined from the books and honestly bro i feel like my darktide rejects could smoke my marine as is, they just move and melee so slowly. Theyre supposed to be super human not just big armored guys. Edit: they also touted their swarm tech but its not even as hectic as wwz was

I was thinking the same thing. Darktide combat is much more slick and responsive. These marines are sluggish as hell. Feels very derpy. And everything is executions, the same 4-5 second long executions over and over. Slows the pace and gets old fast. Too bad Darktide disconnects from servers half the time.

Got tired of fighting the nonsensical control scheme (for MnK at least) instead of the tyranids. IDK why they decided to keep the somewhat same one from 2011. Makes no sense to me to have 4 separate binds for melee, firearm,block and aim, when it can just be- switch between the 3 different weapons and use left/right click....sKilL iSsUe sure... I hope they make a change to that cause they did a great job with so many things and damn did they do a great job with the environment.And the game ran nice and stable.

Yeah controls are really weird. Took me a long time to get used to it, i ended up with melee being left click and block being right, but if i play more ranged classes i bet it will be weird to have those swapped. Also annoying that gun strike and execute aren’t just the same bind, they do nearly the same thing.

I had the same issue luckily for me I use the LG502 so have enough mouse buttons to reassign a lot of key presses to my mouse but the biggest pre-set that I had trouble with was having stims on 'F' and grenades on 'G' my fat arthritic fingers was stimming on full health instead of throwing a nade. It took quite some time to re-set my keybindings to be comfortable and efficient (for me).

"players will very quickly grow accustomed to your hardest difficulty" is very true, I think this is something darktide is sort of struggling at the moment. As hyped as I am for the crafting update, both psyker and veteran are getting absurd buffs despite already being S tier in strength... and yet no enemy adjustments. This patch is also going to highlight a lot of the current imbalance when Vet gets access to a lot of other classes melee weapons and then using them far better than either of them. Aside from that I'm hype for SM2 just waiting on the install, I do have some complaints as the gameplay doesn't look as skill based but maybe I'm wrong on that. Helldivers was the same where it looks amazing but mechanically it's not that deep, that's why this game needs a more aggressive content stream as spectacle burns out faster than depth. The sound design as well, especially for the bolt weapons sounds just so.. sad. On a positive though the game looks fucking amazing, they really nailed it. Also happy to have a game fighting tyranids, being space marines there is a lot more space for fighting the other factions like orks n stuff too but maybe that's hopium. ;p either way good video

Just got this game, about to play it for the first time. Makes me sad fat shark isn’t dumping content into Darktide, I play it every night, so many things that could have been added in the time it’s been out that would keep me on it and not space marine…but oh well

Yeah Fatshark completely dropped the ball. Games been out for 2 years now and 1 year on Xbox and they've added 3 maps and a boss fight. Good content but things that should've been released within the first 2 months but instead they spent their time trying to actually finish the damn thing and fix all the shite mechanics they put in it. Just complete shambles of a dev team when it comes to vision and execution.

Jesus the enemies are spongy as fuck. I'll stick to Darktide because SM2 doesn't make me feel like a badass. All the guns and melee feel like they don't do any damage. Especially disappointing was Plasma Incenirator which I expected to work like a more powerful plasma. Joke on you it does same dmg like the Pistol.

agreed. when i play SM2 i dont feel like a badass, i dont feel like my buttons are connect to outcomes in a skilled way. i have buttons, they work sometimes, i get reaction prompts sometimes, one the animations for my prompts are over i just take damage from all the enemies that were waiting around for me to be vulnerable. when i die i feel like its because there weren't options left. in darktide my buttons are connect to outcomes based on my skilled decision making. the telegraphs are tight and i can react to them. when i die i feel like its because i made a mistake (or silent poxburster).

@@icesharkk6399 Exactly in Darktide you're in the driver seat. Actively making plays with tools I've been given. In SM2 you're reacting to your enemies and cannot be really aggressive because you get punished because of the long animations and stunlocks. Also in DT you can delete enemies by using your weapons correctly but in SM2 they're so tanky it always feels like a slog.

I agree with a lot of what you say, but I’ve gotta get my gripes in here because you have some rankings that are bonkers to me. Scrier’s Gaze is easily S tier and gun psyker + Columnus is better than almost any staff in raw slaying potential. It gives you an enormous damage buff thanks to the multiplicative stacking of finesse damage along with its damage and crit damage bonuses. That damage and finesse damage boosts persist up to 10 seconds after gaze ends as well. The movement speed boost and toughness damage reduction perks as well give you great survivability. Combined with Disrupt Destiny and it turns really any gun you’d want into a pure damage hose with all the crit boosts you’re getting. DD stacks are laughably easy to get and upkeep since you don’t even need to kill the mark to refresh the buff and only fall off one at a time. Oh and on top of that DD and gaze give you such huge movement bonuses you can dodge across half the map and move faster than a knife zealot. I’ve been able to blaze through half a monstrosity’s health in one Columnus mag with gaze and DD. Aside from that gripe, shredder frags are a great panic button with their stagger ability and bleed and you can spam them so often thanks to vets grenade regen talent. Great for handling a pack of ragers. Grenade box is a worse frag bomb and worse rock, its damage is so inconsistent. Frag bomb is the single best panic button in the game. There’s a reason even pubs know to keep their ogryn well fed on grenade pick ups through out the game Aside from that I wholeheartedly agree with your take on Martyrdom. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve gotten in arguments with dudes who try and say martyrdom is good for this that or the other reason when it just makes your performance in the 90% of times you’re not getting killed worse.

I honestly like the black out but I do think the problem is there is so little ability to counter act the dark. I mean I haven't played in a couple months but I would imagine flamer and flash lights is still the only thing. It'd be nice if psycher had a dim glow over a few feet or a special core terminal to put a core in and get a few lights on through out the zone section or 2 zone sections or even slowly manually turn on most of the light by putting these cores in through out the mission

I use a build similar in concept to this, but instead of finishing ranged path all the way down to coward culling aura, I went over to the middle path to get the toughness aura for more team survivability(as long as they dont run off too far). I also went for -10% toughness damage reduction on a side node, and finished out with base feel no pain. Also used a few more ranged nodes like movement speed in the lower ranged path, a few survivability related utility nodes in the lower areas, and I use a frag bomb instead of the box. I wouldn't say it's as damage or uptime optimized as your build here, but the gun still slaps good enough to reliably take out the usual disablers, ranged and elites from a distance. I also get the benefit of being an anchor for the team with my shared toughness regeneration, and I can take out armor units between that gun (+carapace/unyielding with a lv4 repeating fire %power blessing and I believe a lv3 close range kill blessing, sorry the names escape me) and the MKV shovel (for emergency melee with +carapace/flak and thrust lv4/brittleness 2). 10/10 Ogryn weapon for me, it's my favorite of the 3 stubbers. I burn through ammo too quickly with achlys, and I feel like I can't get krourk's recoil/spread down. But the slowest firing, hardest hitting one feels just right, it's actually very accurate.

Couple comments since I feel it's information that's informative and how I'd do things differently 1. Longshot used to be good, now it's mostly useless for helping you hit new breakpoints since close damage is 12m? instead of 8. That 4m of damage loss is actually enough to force you to miss breakpoints at most common ranges. Practically a dead point now, needs to be buffed. 2. Personally I don't buy into the fact that krak grenades aren't worth taking, for me they're an ammo saving measure and they're respectable boss damage/stagger. Both crushers and bosses take a significant amount more ammo than regular enemies which makes using this weapon for that purpose seem suboptimal to me. 3. You don't need determined, the plasma gun (Like all hipfire weapons) is unaffected by suppression. your shots are also not "kind of innacurate" they're pin point accurate its just the crosshair is shit. download a crosshair replacement mod so you can set it to a dot and see for yourself. 4. Camouflage is also mostly pointless as generating stacks isn't the hard part it's maintaining them, a single shot with the plasma gunner into a crowd of poxwalkers will instantly get you to at least 9 stacks, though you'll get them instantly killing anything really as there are very few enemies you wont one shot on a light attack. Long range assassin is going to give you a lot more value since that increases the time you have before stacks start to degrade, couple that with the recently buffed 6s without losing stacks on weakspot hits and you should never drop out of your break point range 6. Because of keystones you don't need exec stance for damage break points, so shout is better (which admittedly I don't care for) though this is primarily to path cleanly for grenade generation. 7. Marksman is an unbelievably busted vet talent, definitely at least a runner up for one of the strongest in the game. With it you can use your ability, then one tap armoured ragers with an uncharged attack. Less necessary if you run focus target (which is probably a better keystone but I hate spam pinging useless trash to maintain buffs) 8. Finally with marksman stacks being good you don't need +10% elites on your plasma, nor do you need +25% carapace with kraks. +flak +maniac gives you better breakpoints against the ragers and maulers, everything else is getting one shot or krak'd. I also don't really think the vet needs a ranged weapon for dealing with crushers given every S tier vet melee kills them easily as well. your roll isnt terrible, glory hunter is best in slot. gets hot isn't terrible though I don't really think crit matters on the plasma gun since the only things that survive being crit are things that die to kraks or melee. blaze away is the second best since it helps maintain good one shot light break points Naturally though darktide can be optimized to such an extent that far exceed what the max difficulty can throw at you, not everything has to be the most statistically optimal choice but I hope at least some of what I've posted has been informative. Deadshot doesn't work with plasma + your ability gives you suppression immunity, so you can swap 2 points to greandes regen

Just to comment on the point of wanting higher tier content that requires more coheason which I do agree with but the need for someone to be dedicated to each roll the problem with that is that it would only work with pre-made teams that know beforehand who is going to be do what roll, and effectivly soft locks a large chunk of the comunity out of it every game I know of the has that type of game play always results in toxic player behaviour

Yeah i guess that idea wouldnt really work. I think what i really want is a difficulty where it feels like we actually need 4 people to beat it- right now it feels like i could probably go afk and the team would be fine. Look at the moment when i accidentally reloaded and basically didnt do anything against the group of crushers- by the time i was ready to shoot again, the team had dealt with it. Really makes me feel like my contribution isnt necessary, and that we are just competing to claim the kills first instead of actually coordinating to not get overwhelmed.

I've played in groups where everyone was spec'ed into horde clear and struggled with just a few ragers and maulers other times it's all been the inverse and totally over run by trashmobs the closest we have at the moment is the twins I would like to see more of that special 'raid' style mission ( a squad of plague marines or a great unclean one etc ) where you have to work as a team
