Another great review. 👍 Having gotten a law degree myself, I'd say you didn't miss much dropping out. 😆 Would you consider covering the This Is The Police, or Fear and Hunger series of games?
19:22 bro the way i jumped- also now I'm wondering why Borderlands with all their freedom for weapon design never made something as dumb as a bandit gun made out of bicycle scrap, it would've felt right at home
I played Borderlands way too little and way too long ago to remember anything about the weapons, but now that you mention it, it does come as a shock that its weapons are not as bonkers as Metro Last Light’s. As crazy as Last Light’s weapon design looks, Metro Exodus takes it even a step further. They’re not so much weapons as they are stupidly elaborate contraptions frankensteined out of weapon parts. You can turn a pistol into a sniper rifle or a shotgun and viceversa in a few seconds if you have the required parts on you. It’s freaking crazy
Great work as always. You have a sharp take on things and manage to cover everything while remaining brief. I loved Last Light. I hated some of the cliches, like wait for the thing to load while killing X amount of Y, but otherwise it was nice. The world looked great. The map was fun to use (I learned from @nthreview it's called a diegetic map) and thought burning away spider webs and wiping fog off your helmet really kept the immersion. I quite enjoyed modding the weapons. I'd love to play a "real" version of the game without weird monsters. More emphasis on exploring and surviving, and less on dodging enemies than spawn out of no where over and over until you kill the right amount of them. Still great fun though. I'd recommend this one to everyone.
Hey thanks Baldy, means a lot! If you’re looking for something similar in spirit and vibe with Metro and STALKER, I heard Chernobylite is pretty good. Haven’t had the chance to play it myself tho
Metro Last Light was promoted bit more on E3, so people in my college pirated it when they needed another "Call of Duty" like action game. That's when I first heard about the series.
39:20 - Skelter mentions that "she was told he was dead, she don't listen - just asks again louder", thus emphasizing the importance of the quest, and giving you a Masquerade Redemption (unsure if you get it in vanilla)
This slaps harder than my dad used to! Sorry I'm late, I literally just crawled out of the basement as he kept changing the lock codes on me because he thought it was funny. What a rascal! Anyways, I'll get to this video soon as I have to go to my 3rd shift Hooters job located in the middle of Detroit! Ta ta!
RU-vid can get very weird about graphical language/content so I censored myself from the get-go to avoid having my video claimed and re-rendering/re-editing it. In short, boring inside baseball stuff
Cool video, where are you from? (because it's interesting to know especially for the gothic series where fanbase is only really present in mid and east europe)
Why do you think that computers beeping and booping is immersive? When I'm around computers, even if it's thousands of them in a datacenter, I never hear any such beeping and booping
Because of aesthetics, basically. If I’m sneaking through a data center in a game, I subconsciously expect a certain soundscape to complement the experience. The more textured said soundscape is, the more “absorbed” into the world I feel. Hope my explanation makes sense!
criticals do double damage, not 10x. In Gothic 2 the "criticals" are pretty much just hits that deal full damage while normal hits are kind of like glancing blows that deal one tenth of the damage, hence crits dealing "10x" in G2. The damage in G1 is weapon damage + strength, the whole thing doubled in case of a critical, in G2 it's one tenth of weapon damage + strength and full weapon damage + strength with a "critical"
Ever since Thaumaturge was announced, it couldn't make more sense to me that a game set in mythical/supernatural alt-history Poland with a detective-like protagonist is led by an ex-Witcher dev.
Another really interesting video TSOM. Especially appreciated the historical context at the start. I'll also provide one bit of feedback though: I thought the narrator switch, while funny, took far too long to be clarified as such. It had me lost for a good amount of time, wondering what was going on. I feel like the same joke could have been cut down to 10-15 seconds, which would have made the whole thing much clearer, as well as funnier imo :)
Glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for the feedback! I’m always looking for ways to improve this aspect because I really enjoy collabing with peers
The interruption of switching narrators was an interesting choice, but kind of jarring. I was really immersed until that abrupt gimmick. Edit: I love how you addressed this at 19:00
Crafting a complex RPG with a relatively small team was quite a rewarding challenge so I'm really happy you enjoyed The Thaumaturge! Thanks for the in-depth review! 🤍
Thank you for the kind words, both here and on Twitter! Nothing makes me happier than seeing the people who worked so freaking hard to make a piece of art enjoying my coverage 🦝🦝🦝
Funny to see people being actually interested in Polish folklore, however is that connection of the word "upiór" with "vampire" an actual thing though? Or just a bit? Also seeing a "marzanna" portrayed as a demon was kinda unintentionally hilarious to me, but probably accurate in the context of the wider slavic mythology. Overall this vid kinda made me want to play this, good job mate. PS: I'm still salty there is no polish dub option though.
The actual etymology of the word vampire is something of a mess to be honest but Upir could have been one of numerous words that contributed to the one we currently have in English. There's a lot of others that may or may not have contributed though, for example the Turkish Uber meaning Witch..
