DUDE THE CARD SHOWN AT 0.48 unlocked a memory for me. I still have some of those marvel trading cards and may even have that one. Also the build looks amazing.
Woulda have been really nice to have a shot such as the one at the very end of this vid, but a bit earlier on. You gotta remember that at the end of the vid, the image becomes obscured by next video recommendations, so important bits can't wait till the very end. So yeah, it would have been nice to see the zoomed-out shot of the interior, so that we can see what kind of effect is achieved by the combination of rooms. Overall, my favorite part of this build is the front view. It looks stunning. The interior seems to suffer a bit of the Death Star effect, where it's trying to pull off something arguably too big to fully realize, so instead of creating a feel of the real structure (at minifig scale, anyway), it creates a feel of a sort of diorama or a series of dioramas rather than creating a real sense of the location. Contrast this with say, the Daily Bugle, where an elevator creates the effect of all the areas being connected, and it really feels like you're not just looking at floors occupying spaces, but of a functioning building. Are the floor layouts simplified and merely suggestive of activities rather than fully featured? Sure. There's not one bathroom in the entire Daily Bugle building, an oversight that minifigs would surely not appreciate if they ever ate or drank. But the overall feel that the Daily Bugle creates isn't a simple diorama, it's location immersion and location play. The Sanctum Sanctorum pulled off the same thing, especially with the entryway stairwell leading right into the second floor, and the generally open layout making it all feel both big enough to play in and at the same time connected, rather than separate depictions of discrete scenes from a show or a movie. I know it's tough because the mansion is really big, and creating it at scale is arguably not feasible for display purposes and everything. And to this end, my favorite part - the front view, works really well here. I'm guessing you're pretty close to what the official set will accomplish (though I hope I'm wrong and it'll somehow strike notes similar to the Bugle and Sanctum), but for play worthiness, it's hard to do much in very small rooms. As the rooms go, I think Beast's lab might have been the best one. The prof's office is pretty good too. They wouldn't accommodate a lot of figs, but the sort of room they represent isn't expected to either. Contrast this with the operations room where you'd expect the entire team to gather, and it's one of the smaller rooms, leading to a cramped feeling (though the details of the monitors and the circular table and stuff are really neat and do sell the room for what it's meant to be. The Danger Room is a tough one. It's a room that sorta demands a lot of space and some significant features. It's partially pulled off here, but only partially I think.
