I have a Savotta Jääkäri M. Its really heavy when compared to these but it is so durable I dont have to buy another backpack probably ever. It is modular with molle webbing and comfortable enough.
The zippers aren't noisy. It's the metal zipper pulls that are noisy, which you can easily quiet by adding the non metal pulls TB provides for their bags, or adding your own pulls. Personally I like the jangly zipper pulls for the added theft deterrent when I'm wearing my bag (Synapse 25). As for the small pocket, I keep my receipts in that space when I travel and the water bottle I use (smaller than the giant water bottle you have) doesn't impede at all.
Unfortunately it's because the company is becoming more popular and i feel like now they're cutting corners but i agree the 2.0 of any of their packs are far superior tho i do like the full molle on the 3.0. How is the material quality compared to the 2.0? I have a gumut 2.0 currently trying to track down a ready pack 2.0 in heather grey
Damn! I agree that I need a fusion of the two: (1) gear organiser bag + (2) everyday/travel bag = (3) everyday/travel bag enhanced for gear/camera inside.
This was super helpful, I hadn't even considered the Osprey but now it's my top contender. Thank you, Desy! Going to to check if you have a video on the Cotopaxi Allpa.
I went with the Radial. Its marketed for bikers but its basically the same bag with a few different features. The ONLY reason I went with the Radial is because of the compression straps on the Tropos and a few other Osprey bags. I never use them personally. When I need to get into my bag, I want the least amount of steps possible. Plus that Tidal Atlas color on the Radial is shhhexaay.
Funnily enough, back in March used my brother's Tropos for a 1 week trip around Puebla and I have the exact opposite opinion of yours about some stuff. The compression straps are awesome. No... perfect. When compression straps *don't* go over zippers they don't help at all to take tension out of the zipper when your bag is full. Even worse, when they attach right next to the zipper they literally pull the zipper apart when you actually need to compress the bag. It's also great that the top compression straps go through the top of the front stash pocket as it gives more longevity to the bag (which I guess gives them sustainability points too) cause whenever the elastane on the fabric gives out and the pocket becomes all loose you'll still be able to have the confidence of locking your stuff in there with the strap and knowing it won't fall out when you're scrambling on rocks or putting the bag in and out of vehicles or luggage compartments. Although I agree that it could be more opaque, in fact, given that you have the compression strap at the top already it doesn't even need to be stretchy to begin with, they could've just used a bellowed pocket with drains at the bottom... I also find it great that it's a bit tall rather than wide or "deep". If you have the right torso length the lowed part of the frame has this great shape that nests into your lower back (even without the belt) and then, because the frame is actually tall enough, the load lifters actually work as they should taking weight off your shoulders and distributing the pressure along the whole shoulder strap and across your chest. For hiking or actually carrying your bag for several hours around town "deep" square shaped bags suck cause the weight always ends up waaay behind your back and it pulls on you and makes the bag flop around whenever you turn. I get why most 30-40 liter travel bags are optimized for airline carry-on dimensions but that really doesn't translate well to comfort if you're gonna actually wear the thing for more than 30 minutes a day. Plus, another somewhat niche advantage (for a mostly US audience) about the "tall" shape is that overhead compartments on coach type buses are usually way narrower than planes, so in places where bus/coach travel is the norm, a "longer" but narrower bag that can be properly compressed is the way to go for one bag travel. Great review, finally convinced me to bite the bullet and get a Tropos for myself...
The North Face Surge easily has the worst straps on any pack recently. I cannot understand why any pack designer would bevel the edges of the padded straps so that they actually cut into your shoulders when carrying any weight. Loved the organisation but if a pack isn't comfortable (with a load) then it's useless. Eventually ended up with the Mystery Ranch 2DAP which carries as much the Surge.
ooooo nice! yeah i was looking into the new mystery ranch Catalyst, which is the urban version of the 2DAP. Can't wait to get my hands on one! I'll have to wait until black Friday... lol
Im here already for 5 days now.. i totally agreed with the food part that the hot dog and buffet is really suck. Room service is extra charge, and nkt sure if they changed now or its been like this. The first 2 days they did come and clean the room and since then no one ever come and do it
just call front desk to get it cleaned and make sure u tip after each cleaning! yeah next year i'm going to do a different resort! i might goto Puerta Vallarta next
Hi! Great review😉… I got myself the new 2024 version in black and for me it is just perfect, bottle holders are also great, gonna use it for many years to come
Do you have problems with the bottom of the backpack where it touches your back? I have the Radial with the same frame and it pulls my shirt up. Love the bag but I walk around with my lower back on display unless I keep pulling my shirt down.
Hey Legend! Quick question about the 70-200 standing upright in the 35L, is that the GM2? I'm trying to find out if the Nanuk 35L has enough depth to store a gripped A1 and A9III, which are about 17cm tall with an arca plate on the base.
Can you expand a little bit more why you preferred the red tiger over the Flysocks apart from the feel in hand? The flysocks has a discount is at around 96CAD rather than 140CAD so I'm trying to gauge whether to take that one instead of the redtiger! Thanks
one thing i forgot to mention in the video was that the red tiger was a bit more consistent iwth the vibration confirmation. i found with the fly socks it didnt vibrate that often to confirm the correct distance. maybe i had a defective unit. but both were good! if the flysocks is going to be that much cheaper, get the flysocks!
hi Desy, thank for the review. as Osprey non-Hiking bags are widely available in my country (Austria) now. I ordered one it surely a unique backpack . how would you compare the mesh of the Parsec to the one on Comet or Nebula? can it be too aggrresive for clothes (I am not talking about wool sweathrs , knitted etc) and is it more comfortable simply more ventilated?
i havent used the comet or nebula, but if u read down in the comments somewhere, i vaguely remember someone saying he prefers the tropos/parsec over the nebula as he owned them all!
@@DesmondCheng the main problem with the new comet/ nebula is that only half of the back is ventilated ..very strange. A form over function we call it. Anyway my first day with the parsec. I feel the comfort. Better than everything else I tried for university. My small travel backpack is fjällräven Lappland 15 as I don't carry cameras etc... P.S. every Thule backpack has at least one design flaw that ruins the concept hehe .
I have an upcoming Japan trip and want a packable day backpack that I can carry around town everywhere while I leave all my luggage at the hotel. Do you think the go pack 2 would be a good option for this? I don’t think I’ll be carrying anything heavy in it. It’ll mostly be for an extra jacket/food/drink, or any souvenirs or shopping that I do around town. I would probably be carrying it for around a full 10 hour day, but never overpacking it. Do you think that sounds like a good scenario to get something like the go pack for?
yes the go pack 2 is amazing! I just wished it had a sternum strap, but other than that, its great! best packable backpack i have ever used by any brand!
Hi Mr. Cheng, greetings from Denmark 🙂 Interesting video 👍 Nice work 👍 Gotta say, the water bottle pockets are a joke. The space should have been used for regular, zippered pockets. OR actual water bottle holders 😀 And the lack of options to strap anything on to it, is also not good. Also, no padding, no shoulder strap pad. A flat, hidden pocket on the back side would also have been nice. And the list goes on and on. You just saved me 100 dollars, my new friend 🙂 Will probably now be buying the Fjällräven Ulvö Hip Large instead. It too misses many of the same features, but it has a much more honest approach, I think: It doesn't pretend to be anything else than what it actually is, if you understand what I mean.
I love this review and the backpack. i just needed a slight increase in size for my current bag to carry shoes, have folders held comfortably, and a deflated football
