I just bought the 923 since the price dropped with the release of the new 925. 923's are amazing , have the 20 and 23 loft. High launch, high spin. If your looking for a Hybrid bomber this is not for you. Very consistent controllable distances.
Absolutely how they are designed, they are there to replace your Irons for specific distances so great to hear your ones are working really well for you 👍
I'll be running the new Heat Map Forgiveness evolution part of every club review upcoming and in the future to be able to give Golfers this information. All can be seen and compared against on my Discord Server (link in the description) by my RU-vid Members. I feel its right to give access to this information that has taken so long to create to my RU-vid Members as a perk of being one 👍
Exactly the thing I was asking for before!! Awesome heat maps displayed on an iron shape. Hands down best iron review data anywhere on the web. Well done.
Great question and I will have to redo the datasets from the Eleven Golf Hybrid test to see how good they are in comparison. I can remember the video in question and the 9 iron during the test was hitting 135 yards or so regardless of where it was hit :-) it would be a worth while re-test 👍
The hybrid being longer in shaft length will promote more club head speed and potential height, descent angle and distance than the long iron replacement. Thr Hybrid is there to bridge the gap between long iron and Fairways, whereas the Fli Hi is looking to replace the Irons directly to make them easier to hit and get more consistent results from using them 👍🏻
Great review... love the heat map displayed onto the club. With the shorter shafts could be also very useful putting style chipping from the fringe. Keep up the good work Jay, loving it. Grtz from rainy Netherlands 🙂
Glad you enjoyed the video and the new data and heat map graphic.... Lots of work going on in the background to make these the most in depth and relatable Club Reviews on RU-vid. I have one particular member of my RU-vid Members to thank for a lot of the mathematics behind the new forgiveness evolution. Also for my RU-vid Members I have a Comparison File will all of the Irons I have tested that are current to be able to compare one against another. Its on my Discord channel, Link in Description.... Available to use for all my YT Members 👍
I used and tested the older version prior to 923 and they do feel and work better, the 923s however I didn't directly test so I can't say with certainty. The new models though are built with consistency in mind from not ideal hits which arguably is what all golfers need so I would suggest if possible to go and give them a test up against your current ones to see how the performance and forgiveness differs 👍
That's the great thing about using a Launch Monitor like the GCQuad, it doesn't care what golf club I'm using, it just reads data without any bias good or bad. One of the best performing clubs out there 👍
I have a fli-hi 6 hybrid from 2021, perfect gap between my 6 iron and my 4 Ping hybrid. Easy to hit, but a bit too much off set, so I have to grip it weaker.
For me they are too upright (or the old ones were) and you can’t change the loft. Love the idea but just couldn’t get on with mine. Ended up putting a 6 iron hybrid in. I don’t lack for speed - just like hybrids.
Not a good comparison, the Mizuno is a "real" forged billet where the Srixon X5 is a hollow body club designed for increased distance. The Srixon isn't really a forged club at all. But I bought and played the Mizuno forged irons and they are the real deal. Fantastic feel and beautiful. But 2nd, they were not for me. I lost distance, too much. Now, I'm in the market for the new Srixon irons when they are released for 2025. It's going to be a tough decision between a forged ZX7 or the ZX5.
There is a second video for this comparison showing distance and forgiveness data. "Mizuno JPX923 Forged vs Srixon ZX5 MKII Performance and Forgiveness". But clubs show very similar distances. I'm fairy stumped as why the 923 forged would lose distance for you. In any case the ZX5 is also a good iron and the differences are very much a personal thing.
Thanks Jay. this review stayed in the back of my head. Got myself my very first fairway (a 230max 5) wood ever in March, but still struggle a bit with predictability if not teed up. I figured I needed to switch my old Callaway mavrik 5 hybrid for a 4 hybrid for more distance on those long par 4s or 5s to cover for my lack of 5wood control. Quick fitting featuring the aiSmoke, 230max and g430 hybrid. Ping performed best. Works very well so far for what I want to use it for. Somehow I made my old Callaway spin like a madman around 6K where the Ping turns out to be super constant for me just under 4K. Super forgiving and straight too. Powerful thud noise. I tend to launch it a tad low, so descent is currently not functional really to stay on a green, but I don't use a hybrid for approaches anyway with my modest 14 hcp. I can save my 5 wood as my version of a mini driver for which it performs admirably. Or in time learn to use it off the deck better.
I just bought this set today!! Omfg! Wow lol. Got them brand new for half the price. So i didnt wanna pass on them. Even though ive never had blades before. Im in a great place right now where ive been hitting my GI irons pretty consistently. So i thought i would take the risk. I went straight to the driving range and wow. The hits are pure and not at all punishing on mishits. Only thing now is distance. Because of the higher lofts. My distances have gone down about 10 yards per club. Honestly...its still very rewarding to hit. Im very excited to play on a course with these!! No regrets!!! 🙌🏽 woohoo!! Lol
In this case, don't necessarily think about the number iron you are hitting but think more so of the loft you are hitting. Put them side by side to your old GI irons and I bet the distance per lot difference is marginal 👍🏻 best way to think about distance is to understand what loft hit what, that way you can easily flick between sets and have no issues controlling distance 👍🏻
And update number 2. I got a Monday email from Golf Digest that said Freddy Couples has gone over to hybrids, and the longest iron in his bag is -- wait, you guessed it, drum roll -- a 7 iron! Yes, a 7 iron. Freddy can still put it out there, but said he no longer has the strength and speed to hit longer irons they way he used to, and finds the hybrids much easier to hit and giving him the carry, peak height and stop he wants. So if a superb pro like Couples has now gone over to hybrids, shouldn't a lot of 7 mph ad 80 mph swing speed players, and even a lot of 90 mph swingers, consider doing the same?
An update that may interest you. I added a 27 degree 11 wood to my 7 and 9 woods. As you have so aptly pointed out in your low swing speed tests, the 6 iron can be a kind of cutoff point, where some may still just be able to use it while others should probably change to a hybrid. That was my case. Basically I use the 7W for a 170 yard shot, the 9W for 160 yards, and the 11W for 150. I wanted a club to use for a 140 yard shot. I can do that with a perfect 6 iron, and I can get it just over a 40-41 degree descent angle, but it is more often a little short and with a 38 descent. So I took a look at a set of Titleist TSR1 hybrids, starting with the 29 degree 7H. Ironically, it had been a demo with a Mitsubishi Steelfiber MMT 38 inch R3 shaft, which basically means a ladies length and flex. But I was shocked to see that in a bay with a Trackman I hit this: club speed 74.9, ball speed 102.1, smash factor 1.36, launch 23.8, spin 5533, carry 140.9, total 148.1, height 90, landing angle 48.7. Bingo. I was sold. In fact, I got the 26 degree 6H, 23 degree 5H and 20 degree 4H because they were an excess set at a huge discount. All had MMT R flex shafts, and I was able to add the matching shaft to the 7H. So now I have overlapping clubs, but I can alternate just for fun and have one in case one of my sons visits. It has been very interesting to do side-by-side comparisons. The hybrids have shorter shafts and slightly stronger lofts. They carry about the same as the equivalent fairway woods, but tend to fly a bit lower with a slightly lower descent angle and slightly less spin. This is partly due to the fact that a fairway wood head is longer from front to back so its center of mass is further back, which creates increased dynamic loft over static loft as the mass tries to catch up with the shaft in the downswing. The FW also has a two inch longer shaft, so it can generate a bit more club speed. And one has to allow for different swing planes, with a straighter back more upright swing for the hybrids, closer to that of an iron. If you flatten the hybrid swing more like that of the FW, you are likely to hit a lot of shots left. Anyway that was what I found.
If you mean the 2024 model Wilson CB , then the P7CB is faster and longer, but our data shows its less forgiving. If you want to see the historical data and be able to compare from the list of 34 irons we have in our database, you can do so by becoming a channel member, and joining discord.
Absolutely, as with all wedges it's much more how you play them than they are designed for specific handicaps. On balance the CNC wedges are more versatile than the Blaster ones. If you are going to purchase them, just make sure you give Eleven Golf a ring first to go through your specs so you are happy and quote my discount code... Let me know what lofts you end up with and also what spec you settled on 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Not necessarily, just depends on how you interact with the head in you individual way. May make no difference whatsoever as humans are all different and react very differently to club designs 👍🏻
Love the heat maps and video! Any chance of seeing an outline of the clubhead or something similar on the map to get a sense of where the colors are changing vs getting closer to club edges? Or more specifically, I know my misses are on the toe but can't tell if those would land in green or yellow color... Absolutely awesome work though!!!!!! 🎉
Hi Daryl, the heatmap processes are in evolution day by day, there is more detail and discussion on this on my Discord, link in the description. Some is Members Access only (RU-vid Member) but it is being developed as such to allow a better understanding of everything 👍
£155 per iron for a DTC brand is pushing it, especially when there's no custom fit. Bit of a leap of faith. Being able to buy individual irons is a plus though. Most DTC brands are sub £100 per club which is partly the reason to buy DTC in the first place. £155 is only slightly less than the big brands and I would argue the extra is worth it for the ability to get custom fit. The coloured ferrules are hideous and would put me off looking down at them.
Yes the color of the kislux is beautiful and it is a great decision, maybe one day they will add feet and straps. It would be nice to have a bigger bag during the colder months when we have to store gloves, beanies, scarves, etc…
Took the leap and bought A-5 iron. They go a mile compared to my old Taylormade r11s but just think of them as one club different so my A wedge is what my P was before etc. really happy with them. 20 handicap but decent club speed.
The heat map in the previous Vice iron video was a great idea. In this one it really stands out in helping to compare between clubs and explain the differences.
Glad you liked it, it will be the mainstay of the forgiveness side of the ongoing review content. Also developing a roll and bulge heat map that will show the effectiveness of any curved face, drivers, fairways etc. Have got a great compare facility on my Discord Members Channel that allows people to compare iron vs iron 👍🏻
Every so often during the year could you do a recap and show the data you have comparing different irons you have tested across the different swing speeds?
They honestly look good for the performance. I’ve seen several good reviews on them. But I think they priced themselves too high putting themselves in a niche market. Went and visited with my local club champion fitter and they have had the irons for over a month (maybe 2 months) and are yet to have one ask for them or try them.
Yes I would suggest that if you currently play a draw and have your miss as an over shaping shot then these wouldn't necessarily be on your short list 😊👍🏻
An excellent "everyones" iron , perfect loft for most swing speeds , great speed retention across the face , and a face speed above a lot of its competition. And looks better than any "game improvement" iron
