The audio has got a noticeable digital phasing that makes it difficult to completely sink into the music, especially while listening to the ride cymbal. The clip is totally appreciated though. 😬
This kind of jazz was not Gilmore's forté. He sounds sloppy on the head (listen to the first one) and plays 'free jazz' in his solos. He sounded better with Sun Ra.
i am a musician and i like simplicity, hooks, repetitions, cliches, sign posts as to what style you are playing i guess, however, i love stuff like this which is just highly original and artistic, i mean if you are gong to go all out and reinvent it, that can be fascinating..
Thanks for this biopic of the greatest Sun Ra I learnt a lot about him socially, musically and spiritually. He was such a prolific and inspiring artist for many years. May he Rest in Peace.
I’ve been watching Sav sing since she was a baby - for real - and this Tennessee Whisky is the best vocal I’ve heard her sing so far. Beyond proud of her.
where is Jay Green now? i loved his Friday night show Straight No Chaser. i also was lucky enough to interview Sun Ra and was at the Myron's Ballroom show. would love to reconnect with Jay if possible.
Quiet Riot in the 1970s was rock and roll. They didn't stray too much into the hard rock or heavy metal genres. Ozzy was a completely different genre that led to more flash. Although, there are many, many bits that Randy wrote and played with Quiet Riot that ended up on the Ozzy albums.
Whis MEN,- one of The most GREATER JAZZ PIANIST IN HISTORY!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ YOUR MUZIK WONDERFUL on ALL TIMES!!! BECAUSE HE WAS NATURAL TITANIUM!!! YOUR MUZIK ARE ANOTHER WORLD! THANK SUN RA! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
I saw them at that Central Park show with Sonic Youth just 23 days prior. I didn't know Ra was in a chair at the time. This is about how I remember the Arkestra playing on that July 4th. They blew Sonic Youth out of the water. Still the best live concert I've ever attended.
I first started listening to Sun Ra in the late 80s, when I was in high school. Every few years, I find myself returning to his ouevre, discovering new works and developing a deeper understanding of his music and philosophy. Miraculous that he ever existed.
I love every word Sun Ra' speaks beyond and within simplicity and all dogmatic dichotomies. The last 2 letters of my name "Arshagra" is born from meeting and spending a few hours with him as his artist liaison, during is visit to Hartford Connecticut's New Music America's event in the early 1980s. "Arshag" was my grandfather. - C.C. Arshagra
