The thing to note about this is that as the boat rises out of the water, it looses its vertical board area - reducing lateral resistance (increasing leeward slip), so while this is a really neat trick and a mega power move on the fleet, they have to sail a few degrees lower to do it. You can actually see them take the lower angle in the GPS track. Not mega, but certainly 2-3 degrees.
These Boats are amazing and very hard to control. Unbelievable how easy it looks in the hand of these pro sailors. I have plenty of onboard footage on my channel, if you are interested.
Sad to see what they did to my favorite sailing class. This is no longer the pinnacle of the sport with forced mixed teams. It is now a joke. However the N17s are awesome to sail.
@@Nacra17Sailing Obviously you know nothing about the multihull sailing in the olympics. Olympics used to the pinnacle of the sport until affirmative action screwed up the class with mixed teams. It used to be open teams which meant you got to race against the best in the world. Now it is a joke because it is all about the women and not who is best. I could care less whether youve heard of me. Ive never heard of you either but that does not change the facts. Keep sailing in the special olympics though.
@@saltyfinn4512 Your male ego is clearly interfering with your powers of observation. Just take a look at the crew work on a Nacra 17 downwind. The team must be totally in sync to get the pitch and balance right at all times. Compare that to have a crew sit to leeward and put up with a fire hose and there is no contest who is sailing with more skill! You may wish to look back fondly at the good old days, but this is the future of sailing.
@@Nacra17Sailing I know it is a great boat. I am very familiar with it. LOL male ego? You are the one who cant compete with men. It has nothing to do with male ego. It has to do with the fact that in order for this to be the pinnacle of the sport the teams must be open like they used to be. It is women who could not compete with men on the Tornado so they decided to force women into the class even though the representation in the sport is more like 8 men to 1 woman. Tornado was too physically demanding for women to compete at the same level. N17 is much less demanding and favors lighter teams so why not make it open so that it represents the best in the sport? In its current state this class will never represent the best and thus will remain a joke. Feminism came to the multihulls and once again took away the best.
