Lots of mention of Speer being attractive and hence being able to avoid the hangman. Fascinating on multiple levels. I heard Ted Bundy was equally debonaire.
@erikgood732
@erikgood732 5 дней назад
I don’t think him “being attractive “ had anything to do with it.Speer avoided the noose because the American cynically wanted to know how the German managed to increase war output regardless of round the clock allied bombing.By the end of the war,44-45, America knew Germany would loose,and they wanted to pick at the carcass of what was left.Personally I think he should’ve had an appointment with Pierrepoint,his defence of ignorance is laughable given the amount of slave labourers employed in German factories.

Speer used the REICH like they used him. It's pretty simple. Doenitz ... straight sailor / soldier. Except the part where he ignored orders to do war crimes. That's the most shocking thing out of all of this to me.

Internment camps for Japanese Canadians and Japanese Americans are not war crimes. If you condemn German internment camps by changing the label to concentration camp then all your war crimes tribunals and The International Criminal Court in The Hague which prosecutes those accused of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide is a farce. Our history is a Hollywood movie fantasy. The Germans are goose stepping morons and the good guys are all handsome actors. When I was a kid never questioned what I was taught. Big mistake. The Germans are not perfect. They don't have to be morally above condemnation. No one is perfect.

I do believe that Albert Speer and Karl Donitz were aware of the Concentration Camps & Slave Labor. However, I do not believe they were involved in nor had direct knowledge of the atrocities and murders committed by Hitler, Himmler, Heydrich, Goring, Goebbels, the SS, etc. Speer was in charge of Armaments & Donitz was in charge of the Kriegsmarine, specifically the U-Boat Branch. Both men acted with Honor during the war. Donitz actually instructed U-Boat Crews to rescue survivors, prior to the Laconia Incident and Speer refused Hitler's Direct order to destroy Germany's Infrastructure. None of those things can be said about the other Nazi Leaders.

I seem to be the rare one who reads Doenitz as a total bullshitter. The hesitation, the mental fog, Speer is sharp and tells how it is. Yeah, we were nazis, we did all that shit, etc etc, but Doenitz is pausing like cupcake dog and then spinning some shit. Every time.
@casario2808

Yeah Speer was really "neutral" when he was building up the infrastructure that he knew was supporting deportation, not to mention using the slave labour. He maybe wasnt a card-carrying Nazi racist but like so many I'm sure he "knew"" what Hitler and the SS were up to, and just went along.
