Believe the most rational solution is to make licensing voluntary, allow open market competition to determine winners and losers, let consumers decide, but to also maintain the current licensing laws as a tool to protect consumers and ensure a quality choice if they need it. Like in Maines construction industry, let the best compete alongside the worst, the unlicensed amongst the licensed and let consumers and competition play out, it seems to work good for Maine in that sector, houses are as good as anywhere else, there should be no reason it could not be expanded nationwide or to other industries especially lower risk occupations; barbering, cosmetology, animal or pet care , physical trainers, construction contractors, entertainment, ect. It’s not rather about the cost or benefit but the underlying purpose of the reform, more liberty and more freedom for more Americans, in America that’s something we should never argue against, it’s enshrined in the constitution, and that’s all people want, can’t believe it’s an uphill battle with the regulators and defenders of the licensing regimes over that aspect, almost can’t keep a serious face just thinking about it, totally absurd, totally “anti-American “ briefly put.

Dr. Bruce Benson's description of the history and methodologies of the law merchant mesh very well with those of Cal Washington, who's work I am lately researching. Cal seems to suggest however that the law merchant goes back much further in history to times of Hammurabi.
