This is the most brilliant interpretation of a carol I have ever heard, by far. Tracy turns a poignant carol into something much darker, tragic, hopeless. Not one word of J.M. Neal's canonical 1861 version is changed. But Tracy's interpretation turns Advent into its opposite. It is Eva Cassidy's Over the Rainbow. All other renditions leave the problematic verses out, or sing right over: ransom, captive, lonely, Satan, tyranny, depths, Hell, the grave, gloom, dark shadows, misery..As though Neal wrote it for Tracy more than a century before she was born. Brilliant.
