@ianellis-ih3dd Originally he had a coat of shaggy hair (changed in the second series). So in that sense you're right. He does look more like a woolly mammoth as elephants don't have hair like that
A classic character. it can't have been very comfortable living in that flowerpot! If only they had done more series I expect we would have seen more of him and other whacky characters....
Good question. I don't know but I would hope they are around somewhere. They cost a lot to make by the standards of the day and would no doubt make a fortune at auction...
I first saw them in Borders Bookstore. They came out to coincide with the short-lived reboot back in the 2000s I think. Later I completed the set by buying from Ebay. So buying on Ebay is probably your best option. Type in 'Banana Split Plush' in the search box. Expect to pay around £40 for the set at auction. You can select the more expensive 'Buy It Now' option for around £70
the banana splits show should get remake how cool would it be if Disney remake show or the writers who made the cartoon show of Cuphead show, got the rights to use the banana splits and made their own cartoon show in The Banana Splits
It is funny how we don’t traditionally hear of agony uncles. Most professional problem solvers are female. Dropper must be one of the few agony uncles. Maybe females are more likely to be problem solvers because of their maternal instincts.
So Drooper was something of a pioneer in this field. Nowadays you have Agony Uncles such as Richard Madeley with his Ask Richard column in The Telegraph following in Drooper's footsteps
I was thinking about Richard Madeley when I was in the process of typing my previous message. He and Drooper are the only two agony uncles I can think of. Everybody is supposed to be gender neutral these days.
I have two Banana Splits Annuals. One has a story at the front called Twangs A Lot. They decide to hire a glamorous female 👩🎤 singer but this idea turns out to be a disaster and the many young ladies who turn up fight amongst themselves. I thought the Banana Splits could have used these fighter ladies for defence when the Sour 🍇 Grapes Bunch came looking for trouble!
Having more than one Charley in the Sour Grapes Bunch always seemed a bit odd to me, but there was a Micky and a Mike in The Monkees. Micky was really called George Michael Dolenz and Mike was really called Robert Michael Nesmith! They both called themselves Michael in their post Monkees careers! Micky has said The Monkees had been the inspiration for The Banana Splits. I think Bingo and Micky have a similar grin.
I could never understand why more than one of these girls were called Charley, I thought that was confusing. I have learnt from this video they were all called Charley! If somebody decided to give them their own spin off series, or make a film about The Splits and their rivalry with these girls, a good title could be Five Gals Called Charley. There’s a musical called Five Guys Called Moe!
I'd never even noticed they were all called Charley until I did research for the video. Now I know why I couldn't remember the names other than Charley!
I had previously known two of them were called Charley, but they were clearly not the same young actress. I hadn’t previously known all five were called Charley. I presume they would have been Christened Charlotte.
Here’s a possible idea if anyone ever decides to do a reboot series of the Banana Splits. Why not have another girl gang who stand up for the Banana Splits? I wonder how the Sour Grapes Bunch got their name. We’re they jealous of the Splits having their own T.V series?
Good idea. The series was rebooted in the 2000s briefly but no Sour Grapes equivalent. Would be interesting to know where the name came from. The girls were actually messengers for The Sour Grapes Bunch themselves who were never seen....
I Remember The Arabian Knights segments on The Banana Splits, as well as The Three Musketeers( with Jonathan Harris voicing either Aramis or Athos) and Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn and Becky Thatcher segments. And Danger Island.
