@@janeokeeffe5297 It was a magical time as a kid .We couldn't wait to get to the camp .we used to stop half way at the side of the road and eat sandwiches that mum had prepared for us ,and a flask of tea with a red tartan pattern on it lol . When we finally arrived ,seeing the gates and the funfair in the background was just brilliant 😁👍. A whole week of doing what we wanted .Mum n dad let us go off and we'd just meet up for dinner at the dining room ..Happy days indeed. I remember the music🎶 they used to play over the tannoy to wake us up in the mornings .There was a speaker 🔊 in every chalet if I remember rightly 😁

@@janeokeeffe5297 😂👍. I'd love to go back in time to about 1974 .I remember going into a daytime disco and hearing Rock your baby by George mcrae 🎶 Whenever i hear that song it instantly takes me back to that day aged 13 . The last time I went to Butlins was a Filey in 1977 age 16 I'd been to pretty much all the camps including bognor ,Minehead, Clacton, Skegness, Filey , Yarmouth. Such a shame they closed a lot of them ,and are not the same

@@spud912 yeah same we went to all the butlins from the 60s through to the 80s the only one we didn’t go to was Ayr, it was just a bit to far, 1974 was a great time for music, I remember the disco at Filey was great, I was at Skegness the year Elvis died and they played his songs the whole time, we were probably at one of the camps at the same time 😀it’s a small world

I like to think that I have a special affinity with the Cinema Museum because in the 1950s I was a Saturday-afternoon-at-the-movies, film-mad kid in Aberdeen, where much of the basis of the Museum collection originated. Not only that, but many of the films I saw would actually have been shown by Ron Grant, who was a projectionist in the city at the time. You might say he has a lot to answer for, but my childhood was cinema heaven, and I loved every one of Aberdeen’s picture houses. Ron saved as much as he could; tragically the rest was lost forever, thrown into Aberdeen’s Rubislaw Quarry. This touching and perceptive film clearly shows how the impressive collection now has items from far and wide since its early days. Francesco Zavattari’s evocative images and Neil Brand’s music, with its flavour of Cinema Paradiso swept me back over fifty years; a reminder that nostalgia is a hugely powerful and important part of cinema history. Congratulations to everyone involved in the making of The Love Letter. PLEASE sign the petition if you haven't already done so!

Sad to hear of Burt's passing. I remember him so well from The Inn of the Sixth Happiness, which I went to see in 1959, when I was a 12 years old boy. Barry Littlechild, who's interviewing him here, passed away himself in April, 2016, at the age of 69. So they're both gone now and within a month of each other.
