i came out to the faire in wax,tx and he took the time with me to teach me this song on guitar. down to earth and an encouraging teacher then...i fell in love with this song at age of 18... that was over 20 years ago... God bless y'all and his brother is truley missed.... a haunting melody in my mind those notes from glass. this is still in my mind the best song ever created in the world. i love you guys. thank you for the lesson! i sing this song often.!
That traditional song sounds nothing like "Land Down Under" what a bullsh** lawsuit! And the guy who filed it didn't even write that one either, he stole the traditional song!
Thanks Angel - same for me, we pretty much come to the fair now to sit in with Donal and Alex, having seen most of the acts, etc. Makes it very enjoyable.
..it's seeing all of you guys perform that I look forward to. The novelty of dressing, acting, purchasing items, it all wore off long ago. It's seeing & interacting with the friends I've made along the way that makes it all worth it to me. Hope you guys enjoyed seeing Richard Thompson! It was Donal that got me listening to Thompson. When my husband downloaded his entire discography for me it was yet another sign I'd found a good guy. Hope your doing well. Take care. -Angel
Hi again Mark. I'm so disappointed that I wasn't able to see you guys perform this year after all. My mom was having some issues, eventually labeled "borderline diabetic," nevertheless I didn't think it was a terrific idea to drive from Oklahoma to Texas with sponatnious loss of consciousness-type incidents occurring, so we had to miss out again. She's alright now, perhaps I'll have the opportunity to return from Hawaii during faire. After over 2 decades of doing faires...
Outstanding! Thank you so much for posting this, and being quick enough on the trigger to capture the beginning of the song, which he slides into with little warning. You rock!
Thanks for the kind words, Angel. Hope to see you at Scarby this year, plan to be there with Donal on 4/14 and after that (we're seeing Richard Thompson on the 13th, one of Donal's favorite performers). Donal's in Normal this weekend.
I failed to realize that the person posting the videos was also the individual playing the Melodicas. Gee, I really am terrible with names that I didn't put that together, I've talked to you many times before. Thanks again for sharing your videos, it's nice to find video from these years I've had to miss. Hopefully this year we'll make it back, my husband's being stationed in Hawaii next & I'll be moving, so if not this year I'll have to wait several more. Hope to see you there. -Angel
Sorry for blabbering, was trying to express my appreciation for your sharing the videos & got carried away. Point was, they've made me smile, & laugh, (& maybe get a little teary-eyed too, maybe) & left me generally much happier after viewing, so that's always good & I am thankful. I'm pretty sure the world would be a better place if these videos had as many views as, well, I suppose almost any viral video. Ever. & Donal, I'll see you in a couple weeks in Norman. -Angel
because I knew that the end of the day was mine. That was the agreement I always made. & it is this one thing that I have truly missed about Scarborough. Though I still have the opportunity to see & visit with Donal in Norman OK each April, I miss being in these end-of-day crowds of the kindest, warmest, friendliest, happiest, most loving people one could ever hope to meet. What else could ya say except that Donal & his music attract people it feels good to be around. No surprise there.
Thank you so much for posting a high quality video of such a beautiful collaboration! For at least 16 years straight my mom & I (along with various groups of friends) made it down from Oklahoma to Scarborough, even if just for 1 weekend. But we haven't been able to make if for several years. The last 8 or so years we did go, I realized that for me, this was the specific reason for returning every year. I'd trek back & forth across the grounds all day, complacently following my group,
Thanks. He is indeed great, and I have a great time playing with him, both at his end of the day show, and also at the 2 & 4 PM pub shows he does at the Cat & Fiddle. We have fun being the "Donal Hinely Philharmonic Orchestra".
Thanks for posting this. I haven't made it to this faire the last few years and I've missed this part of the day most of all. Donal is a wonderful singer, songwriter, and most of all a wonderful person.
