I'm Mel, I'm a recent graduate from UNSW Sydney, Australia, and I completed a semester-long exchange in the UK at the University of Manchester in 2019/20 (this is probably how you found me)! I studied Economics and Development Studies, am obsessed with bubble tea and want to see the world become a better place - one filled with more compassion for others.
A strong passion for languages was born in me but I'm not good at it, I don't know if my fatigue is connected to my being sensitive, introverted and blocked or not because I noticed that most people can study languages easily , I don't know if they were all born with the innate predisposition and I together with the minority are the only losers who don't have it and if you need to have a talent not to struggle with languages ___;
I love how you put just one cut of the university cuz quite frankly, it rains everyday and it doesn't really help people who like the sun. I wonder how you came to choose this uni...
Are the exams timed? I study at Unimelb as a criminology major and most exams are essays that you have a couple of days to write. I'm worried when I go on exchange its going to be the 1 or 2 hour structure and I haven't done an exam like that for social science subjects in about 2 years. Could you share your opinion on this please?

Hey! I'm a university of Melbourne student and im thinking of going on exchange to University of Manchester. Hi Samantha, I stayed in the uni accommodation so I don't have much experience with finding student accomodation, however, I know that some people used www.spareroom.co.uk (I think it's the British version of flatmates). Not sure if that's helpful at all. Good luck with your search!
Oh god the slems hall rooms are giving me flashbacks!! It used to smell of sweaty boys and weed there. Lol i used to live in st gabriels hall (all girls) back 2003-2006 and st anselms hall was our brother hall so we always socialise and have events with them. My best friends till this day are from slems. :)

Hi! Thank you so much for this video, it was super helpful :) I just have few questions if you have a bit of time: How would you say the commerce and economics lecturers are? Did you find that they were supportive and that the education was of a high quality in comparison to other aussie unis? Also...do you know if people who graduate with a commerce or economics degree are very employable in sydney?
Please keep in mind that this is just my perspective. On the whole, I personally didn't find the economics lecturers to be very supportive. In part, this is because the cohort for economics/commerce is relatively large and lecturers don't really build a relationship with most students (unless you become a research assistant, tutor, honours student, etc.). To be fair, this is probably my fault as well because I never went to consultation hours, however, the lecturers (on the whole) aren't the kind that seem like they want to help you because they care about you - there were definitely some exceptions to this though. This was very different to my experience with my Arts (Global Development) degree where I was part of a small cohort and built a personal relationship with my lecturers. With those lecturers I felt comfortable enough to discuss my career concerns, debate theories, etc. and you could really tell that they cared about their students. In terms of the quality of education, I think that the Economics curriculum at UNSW is good because there is that quantitative focus. In terms of employability, I think that this is really important as working with data is becoming increasingly important and it gives you some of those 'technical skills'. I can't really say how it compares with other Australian universities as I haven't taken those courses, however, I believe that the University of Sydney may be a bit more theoretical/social-science based. I think that an Economics/Commerce degree does make you quite employable in Sydney, however, what's really important is to build your outside-of-uni experience e.g. internships, part-time work, etc. This outside experience is what employers are looking at these days. Hopefully that was somewhat helpful ☺️ Sorry for the essay 😅

Plz answer this if you see this. 1. Im very interested in joining Manchester University Im in year 12 and so far my grades are a bit awful. If I improve significant in year 13 can I still get accepted. 2. Can you explain your applications process because I'm very confused on where to start. 3. What are some of the engineering courses there? Is mechatronics engineering offered?. Thanks in advance
