Used to love hanging out of the front door window. Watching the loco rock and roll. I can feel the heat from hare. Along with the bits of soot in my eye 😁👍👍
Very much so chief, been meaning to get to the 'other end' for a while now, back to the joys of the Preston end on Monday. Plenty of shunting to do this week for tanker maintenance etc..
When I was a kid 50 odd years ago we would see coal being moved through Leeds on trains that seemed to be a mile long ! 2024 and people are still train spotting 👌
Remember as a child the amount of coal trains and freight trains using this line going in to ICI and down to Port Clarence before seal sands was invented the good old days never to be repeated
Thanks. Although I'm not local to the area I remember seeing the train conveying the 'nasty stuff' in the late 80s/ early 90s between Seal Sands and ICI Haverton. Such a shame to see it all gone now but at least the branch has now reopened for the bitumen traffic, albeit only as far as the terminal at North Tees. I noticed while I was there that the Seal Sands branch has been tarmacked over in several places now, I'm surprised none or very little track has been recovered but I guess it's down to cost etc.. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Fantastic video of a unique part of British railway history! :D I was just wondering, would it be possible for me to use this footage as part of an upcoming documentary I'm creating about the history of the Class 81 to 85?
Brilliant..2x37/4s on freight. How the mighty have fallen ..but also shows how versatile a beast they are. Even better today, as they are dragging 68s into storage and the 60s lie rotting at Toton. Good Old English Electric 👍👍😎
Ahhh, there's nothing I like more than claggy Diesels and especially choppers .These two probably need a overhaul but by this time BR wasn't spending money on such things especially 30 year old type 1s .
Not familiar with the location, but familiar with the 1st generation DMUs , spent many times commuting on them , always remember the side to side motion these units gave at speed , great video thanks for the memories.
😀excellent! I did a lot of miles chasing stuff about in that thing, got a GTE not long afterwards as that was only the 1.8 variant, wish I had one nowadays 👍
Indeed ! IIRC it was one of them that burst resulting in the quadruple header back from Skegness. Going through more footage at the moment, half of which I'd forgotten about 😀
This is utterly bald-headed mate! Just enjoyed it on the big screen at home. Wasn't this the day that 90 failed to load-up at Netherfield?? There's a hint of that issue in the bit at Heckington. It was a super day. This vid is a real trip down memory lane of a day we all had at the seaside! This is utterly cracking!
Yep thats the one Mark !, although 90 did its party piece on several occasions from memory. I have plenty more footage of this pair which I'll dig out👍 Incidentally, I'm sure thats a young looking Mr Goodale chap hanging out leaving Derby !
Another cracking video mate. Massive memories of what was familiar and seemed it would last forever. Particularly liked the shots of Saltley and Ripple lane. All that's left of the former is the scrapyard. And George and I passed by Ripple Lane last week and it's just a pile of dirt!! There are some sidings and freight traffic, but the depot is gone completely. Tinsley as i remember too. All those sidings..... Just so much gone........ Keep em coming mate!!!!
I had the pleasure of driving past the 'Three Magpies' in Brinsworth a few days ago mate, so for old times sake I drove down the approach road at Tinsley.... I honestly wished I hadnt 🙄🙄🙄
Hi, the 85s are stabled at Ripple Lane, Barking. They electrified just the one road from memory in the very late 80s/early 90s when the North London line was electrified at 25Kv for use by the electric hauled container traffic.
Hi BillSinclair, no it doesnt, it has an English Electric 12CSVT engine, the Deltic locos are easily recognisable by the fact that they only have the two curved windscreens and the larger nose ends, hope this helps.👍
