And thanks for posting. It's good to see the brilliant performances we've had over the last two years - but it's something else to see the games from your youth and the way those guys played which will stay with you forever.

I was at this game. It was a turning point. This was the game they clicked as a team. It was upwards after this. Gates played a blinder

I went to this as a Ipswich fan,we were lucky.When was let out at the end i remember Charlton being very pissed of with us.Some old fella tried to get at us by trying to push a police horse out of the way.🐎 The coppers then took no crap in those days and shoved the old coot onto his arse.

A one sided match with the Blues nicely moving it around, crowd in good voice and pitch lovely and smooth. A decent watch.

Every time you see Muhren you wonder how he did it. Skin and bone, one footed but l cannot recall another player with greater intelligence and such precision in everything he did

Any younger Ipswich fans watching this: Forest won the European Cup in 1980 and were reigning champions. They were lucky it was only 2-0. Those were the days. We had the perfect midfield: Warky central breaking up play and scoring a hatful; Muhren the best crosser and passer in the league and Thyssen the best dribbler. Up front Mariner, the complete striker and Brazil, another great dribbler. The back four were not just solid but both full backs provided attacking options. They were everyone’s favourite second team except in Norwich. At the time their shirts were yellow, hence the Canaries. Since everyone in Norwich turned green with envy, it was incorporated into the shirts where it remains to this day.

Great Ipswich side - were on for the treble in April and best side in terms of talent in the country but had 13 players and played 67 games ! Injuries added up and they only ended up with European trophy.

That free kick for time wasting!!! Cooper had the ball from the initial challenge, released it onto the ground and then picked it up for 5 seconds! In the first half!!! Not a murmur of complaint by the Town players. How times have changed 😂

@@thevillaaston7811 because ipswich played something like 65 games that season and Villa played around 40. The FA cup games and replays came at the crunch end of the season for Ipswich and caused fatigue and fixture congestion. It’s hardly controversial.

@@MarlboroughBlenheim1 What should have happened was that Villa should have been docked six league points after this match in order to even things up.
@MarlboroughBlenheim1
@MarlboroughBlenheim1 Год назад
@@thevillaaston7811 ha ha - the real reason ipswich didn’t win the league was that they didn’t have three or four more first team players. Had they had those; they would have won the treble. It’s no one else’s fault than Ipswich’s. They were firing in three competitions with only 12 first team players and they were playing three or four games a week by end of March and April. No point ipswich blaming anything or anyone but themselves for blowing it that season at least with the league. Robson went to England after town came second next season too but he always wondered if he had stayed what would have happened because that side was young and would have developed and been a dominant force in the 80s - but it wasn’t to be and when England come calling it’s hard to turn down. Villa won it fair and square, ipswich should have had more players simple as that.

I was behind the goal with the other Ipswich fans. It was a wonderful time to be a supporter as we had so much confidence in the ability to score. As l remember things we often had less possession than opposing teams but did a lot more with it so that highlights give a false impression. I loved Stumpy Eric. Never seen another player like him

My first ever match watching Ipswich at Portman Road with my dad and uncle. Unusually (in those times) it was a night match on a Saturday. Walking up the steps to the stands and then seeing the floodlit pitch and the noise from the crowd is something I will (as would any fan of any club) never forget. I can remember my uncle asking how I had enjoyed my first game to which I replied “brilliant” his response was “yes, it was. But remember it won’t always be like this”. 48 years on, goodness he was right . But it doesn’t matter, the ups and downs, the club you choose to support is already part of you, it stays with you and it’s……. “brilliant”
