Reed stops with fractional length resonators have notoriously unstable tuning. Putting a reed like that in this location allows the organist to get at it with a long tuning knife to touch up the tuning from the console, without having to climb inside or call upon a key holder to sit at the console. It also allows the quiet sound to be heard more clearly against the rest of the pipework. It's more a practical issue than anything else.
This beautiful piece could never be played on the piano. Beautifully played on the organ St. Patrick's Cathedral is just magnificent. This piece wad beautifully played. Bravo

I know it's not really a replacement for the real thing, but many electric pianos have a preset for different organ types. The only thing you're missing is the foot keys.
