Dissolving detergent sheets are greenwashing. Their statements that they are plastic free is a flat out lie, as the base is Polyvinyl Alcohol, which is a plastic. Technically, PVA is biodegradable if the water treatment plant has the right microbes in the right quantities, but most don't, so they contribute to micro plastic pollution, just like pods do. Non-dissolving sheets, pressed tablets, concentrated powders that are low in fillers (requiring one tbsp or less, per load,) and ultra concentrated liquids in aluminum bottles are all better options than dissolving sheets.

This has to be the worst toilet paper Ive ever used. It feels like low level sand paper. I totally dig that its eco friendly and recycled but it does not feel good,. So you are trading comfortability with with being green.

There is white glove service (at least when I bought mine), but it is an additional cost and maybe it’s not available through Costco. I don’t regret paying for it though. They delivered it and set it all up fairly quickly and I did not have to deal with boxes. I believe I had to get rid of my previous couches however.

Three+ years later, is it still worth it? I'm currently on the market and while it's not in my budget, I don't mind investing in something that is going to last and won't sink on me within a few years. I'm between this and a more affordable, likely less durable Ikea couch or a used couch. Thanks in advance!

As someone who's been in the world of product design, I can tell you: Most of these "save the world ecobioplastic product" things are garbage, it's just marketing. They ain't ecofriendly, they are econeutral AT MOST. If you really want to make any difference, buy less stuff and repair things.

I mostly agree. I do think it is rather bold to devalue a potentially good thing by focusing on half-hearted bandwagon products, however. Especially when eco-neutral is already a pretty big step forward, currently. I think it is good to develop standards to hold businesses to when it comes to environmental impact. When it comes to sustainability, currently, it is less about lauding everything as a solution and more about estimating how much progress it brings to the table.

my phone will last a longer time with a phone case. therefore, I will buy a phone case, and I will preferably buy one that is as eco friendly / neutral as possible, and not being made of plastic is a huge win for me. and no, I can't buy one used. I have looked everywhere, but the cases for older models just disappear into some void after these models become irrelevant

Your claiming to change the world with new toilet paper. Wake up will you? A few weeks ago they discovered nuclear fusion that's changing the world we can carry on driving cars and vehicles enjoying electricity with out affecting the environment. I worked in a rubbish burning three thousand gallons a month recycling materials now that will all change. That's what changes the world.

Yeah! I’ve tried both and the 100% recycled is way too thin. It always leaves behind pieces. I’ve used the Bamboo for a year now and it’s been great. Plus their packaging is great. Well except for the pieces of tape it comes with.

These cost $70 now! How can anyone afford that these days? I want to help the environment but that’s a lot of money to ask for toilet paper
@Kittykatt96
@Kittykatt96 2 года назад
The $70 one is there “Where’s The Loo” edition which is a special wrapping which is why it’s more expensive . It’s like I SPY but with a toilet lol. Their regular paper for the bamboo is $44 for 24 rolls and $68 for the 48 rolls. Damn i guess it did go up because I’ve had my subscription for a year and i pay 57.20 every 2-3 months for a family of 4. Three of them being women so we use a lot of paper. So for one year I received 7 boxes sometimes 48 rolls sometimes 24 but total was 312 rolls. I spent $368.5/ year which is about $1.18/per roll, $30.70/month, and $7.09/week. If I would have bought the POM toilet paper from Sams club which is $23.48 for 45 rolls I would have spent $162.79/year which is $0.52/roll and a difference of $205.71/year . So yeah I would have saved but it’s only a $17.14/ month save which is $4/week. To me it’s worth spending the extra $205 and just not eat out once a month and instead save those $20 to put towards buying a more sustainable toilet paper which I know is helping people. Also I was looking into getting a bidet for the restrooms so that will cut down on toilet paper. I still have to figure out what is more sustainable and cost effective since we would be using more water. For me it makes sense to get this paper. Now you can do your calculations and see how much you spend on paper now. Also I do not recommend their 100% recycled paper. When I tried it out it was way too thin.

Sending the case to them has a significant higher environmental impact than just throwing the case away. You would probably need some sort of packaging or envelope just for sending it, contribute to more transportation and pollution and then just hope they do what they claim once it is there? Shouldn't some red lights turn on when you think about this? Sending your old phone to them is even more crazy. How is that environmentally friendly? Send an item to someone else so they can throw it away? Please think about this for a while. I really like your urge to be environmental aware, but it is so sad there are so many companies ruthlessly exploiting this by pretending that obviously non-environmentally ideas are actually environmentally sound. It should be rather obvious Pela is one of those companies... :(
@bonyeni
@bonyeni Год назад
pela cases come in envelopes that expressly say they can be used to send the phone back for composting. I think it is a bold thing to refer to composting as "throwing away" since this implies a different thing and, if done intentionally, effectively distorts the facts of the matter. Honestly, pela's decision to invite people to send cases back for composting seems to invite the more conventional masses into getting a phone case since they do not need to worry about how the process of composting works per say. Nonetheless, the truly invested can compost it on their own, as people have demonstrated that these pela cases do, in fact, compost. It is good to be skeptical, though I do not think drawing conclusions on speculation is a very productive way of thinking.

I felt this was a very fair and balanced review. I watched this review and a few others a couple of months ago and I decided to try their products. As a follow up, I am currently using the dish soap, dishwasher tabs and toilet tabs and love them all. I was previously using a well-known eco friendly dishwasher brand that came with a plastic wrap (on each tab !) and I find Blueland cleans my dishes better. With shipping to Toronto and exchange on the dollar, I do find them somewhat expensive, but I feel the quality and the fact that I am very concious of my plastic useage worth it.

I love the Mother Earth brand and particularly love their laundry detergent bar that dissolves in liquid. I had tried Dropps, but when I use the tap water setting instead of hot water setting, I would find residue from the Dropps stuck on my clothes! No bueno. So I’m thrilled with Mother Earth’s laundry bar cuz it’s cheap and minimal in terms of packaging and use ($22 for 256 loads, so only $0.09/load!!). You just drop the detergent bar in water (I use a large glass container) and I was super skeptical about it dissolving without a ton of agitation, but sure enough it was all dissolved overnight! I use a scooper from a previous laundry product and it works great as it’s super concentrated. Highly recommended and would love to hear your thoughts and experiences!

I discovered Mother Earth deodorant, which has similar packaging as this product (plastic-free), but seems twice the size (3.25 oz for $13). I absolutely love it! It doesn’t work as well for a friend of mine, but I find it extremely effective and find that even after day 2 I’m odor-free. I tried Lumē but didn’t like the plastic packaging for the roll-on application and didn’t like having to apply it with my finger for the lotion-style version. I also think Mother Earth’s scents are great. Would love to see your opinions on them!

For years I’ve been making my own toothpaste. Baking soda, salt, and peppermint extract. Occasionally I’ll use hydrogen peroxide to make it more of a paste, but that flavor can be a bit challenging. Since there is fluoride in tap water, I usually just use water to make it a paste consistency. Of course that’s a much smaller amount of fluoride than you get from a product like ACT or conventional toothpaste, but every time I go to the dentist, they comment on how good my dental hygiene is. So I love the ability to make my own from products I already have! MUCH cheaper and less things to order. Thanks for these reviews, I’m enjoying your channel. Cheers!

Just a little update in case anybody is still researching on plastic free cleaning supplies I totally agree with you on the dish soap. Ilove everything blueland does so far but pour slowly and stand up straight and may be back from the counter a bit because I also ended up with a coughing fit the first time since then I have learned and I just back up and do it a little more slowly. It really does last a long time and for me the difference in price is OK for what I’m trying to do in the long run, Which is to go as plastic free as possible with a product that works.

I really appreciate the recyled aspect that I didn't know before. It was HARD to put together - my hands are SO sore right now - because we did it yesterday. But I have to say that it did make me feel that I was part of the process of making the couch - I'm pulled into the architecture of it and appreciate the strength and good design.
