I'm on my journey through the CFA exams, and I keep coming back to this story. The framing of the MOAS theory crowd as an apocalyptic cult is so correct, and the more I understand about capital markets, the more divorced from reality apes seem. There are stocks that operate as legal pump and dump schemes. There are real conspiracies to find out there, but they are not conspiracies that can be unravelled simply by buying and holding failing retail businesses.

I've watched multiple videos talking about why WoW has gotten more soloable. But I haven't heard more emphasis put on why WoW didn't just make it easier to play together. I know they've made some changes in that direction, but I'd love to hear someone talk about the contrast between WoW's progression and City of Heroes which made it fantastically easy to jump on and pal around. Granted, I'm a bit late to the party :-)

36:17 (related to one of the comments in the screenshot) The fact that someone who has watched a documentary about the history of gold is suggesting that they should have added more information about its origins and where it came from really speaks volume about how much effort they put into the writing of it. Sure, they show that they get gold from mines and the viewer probably just didn't pay attention but that adds to this video's point that the documentary itself is just boring so not many of the viewers got any information from it
I like the idea that this video mirrors the usage of flat earth as a "gateway conspiracy" to get people into increasingly more insane stuff, by calmly debunking flat earth and then transitionining into debunking and explaining the dangers of modern fascism
It's not possible for infinite money. At that point money becomes worthless and then complete destabilization begins. Currency is one of the critical cornerstones of society and if it's worthless, then it could spark a truly scary set of events.
This was one of the apes major disconnects from reality, they,simultaneously believed that they would basically cause the end of modern day capitalism but also that theyd become Unfathomably rich even though the system had collapsed. It made absolutely no sense

I'm here on a rewatch, and while this was a fun video essay, I genuinely think it's one of my favourite indie films. I feel like each time I've watched it I've noticed something new and clever you're doing with the framing. The AVGN's angry face projected over your own while you talk about how hard it is to be performatively be angry, that anyone watching you is watching an echo of yourself ... It's a superb visual metaphor.
I think the fundamental thing, after coming back to this is when you hear "What if this awful broken system was made again....but this time you get to be at the top" and you think its a good thing you are the problem thing
