Great video! I just ordered the Pyxis and luckily I already have an L mount cine set of glass, V mount with rods and cheesplate, atoms monitor, top handle, side grip,Matte box/filters and Dji's Lidar. So All I need to buy are some Cfast cards and my Cinematography is about to change !! For an amazing price.

This problem is obviously not limited to your industry but it is an issue in all reviews that are initiated by the company supplying the kit to be reviewed. I don’t know if there can ever be a true review in these instances as the lure of further pre-release products is too tempting for most and getting those eyeballs on ones channel as a result. This is why I tend not to trust pre-release reviews and wait for a wealth of reviews from varying outlets before making a decision.

Getting as much feedback from as many sources as possible is always the way to go for a fully rounded review of the product.

I'm not a Blackmagic guy but I purchased the 6k Full Frame as I have a lot of L mount lenses but I sold it about a month after purchase. I didn't like the poor battery life and lack of dedicated timecode port. The form factor didn't bother me initially but after rigging up a lot of devices it looked huge and ugly. I ordered the PYXIS as soon as it was announced as it fixes all of my gripes. I loved the image from the 6k FF but didn't like the sound which is why I want to sync my Mixpre 3 ii with it via timecode. Looking forward to the release of the PYXIS and I hope I don't have to wait very long. I have an EF to L mount adapter so I can use my set of Irix cinema lenses.

Glad to hear you liked the quality of the sensor in the Cinema Camera. I know a lot of people have been buying them with the recent reduction in price. The form factor of the cinema camera range isn’t for everyone, but hopefully the PYXIS will meet all your needs.

The Pyxis also has a better thermal design than the Pocket. ProRes is not an issue. You can export ProRes from Fusion Studio with the Saver node. Your DaVinci Resolve Studio license also works for Fusion Studio for free. You don't need built-in NDs on a cinema camera. There are many other ND options that allow for ultimate flexibility and creative freedom (matte box, screw-ons, drop-in lens blades, etc.) Blackmagic already said built-in NDs would have changed the body design, weight, balance, and cost of the camera. I'm sure they will have a Pyxis model with internal NDs in the future, but I won't buy that version. I'll be using NiSi Cinema Primes with Drop-in lens blades. Almost all cinema cameras (RED, ARRI, etc.) require external monitors. The side monitor on the Pyxis is mainly for the menu and setup, and is really a bonus monitor. Also an articulated side screen would just be in the way of a DJI Focus Pro grip handle anyway.

What I want to see is an Ursa (preferably condensed a bit compared with the current generation) which contains the same sensor as the new 12k cine but with CFExpress slots instead of the big memory module, one screen instead of two which is optimized for 8k rather than 12k. 16 stops for under $10k? That would be amazing and ought to be doable. We will see.

Thanks so much for watching. The Sony rumour mill at the moment is now saying that the camera won't be available to buy until August, as opposed to its initial announcement in May and subsequent release in July. How this affects the release in Bangladesh I'm unsure, but it may be prudent to keep an eye on Sony Asia's social channels for any solid updates for release dates in your area.

Thanks so much for the positive feedback. Indeed, with the expectation from many of using fully manual cinema lenses, the PYXIS remains true to the moniker. I think people start to think of Sony’s ‘cinema’ camera line up when comparing the PYXIS’ lack of autofocus capability. The high end Burano even has AF with the right lens on the front, albeit, I’ve not only managed but continue to enjoy using my BMPCC 4K without it.

the vmount adapter might fit but it will cover the battery unlock button and the on and off switch at the back of phyxis
@goodfitkit
@goodfitkit Месяц назад
Great observation. It seems from the Pyxis site that the medium sized bp-u still protrudes slightly out the back of the camera body. With the adaptor using the same dimensions as the larger bp-u it should leave plenty of room for operation of the camera’s rear buttons with the v-mount attached. This is of course one option, where could always use a rig mounted v-lock battery with a d-tap out if you wanted to ensure a clearer operation at the back of your setup.

Singularity of power source? Purchase consideration? Return on investment?
@goodfitkit
@goodfitkit 2 месяца назад
Thanks for the questions Ken. I like to power most of my kit using the same battery system. I like to help buyers consider what camera to invest in if they’re going to spend their hard earned and make a purchase. For professionals like me who are going to buy a camera like the PYXIS, they can also factor in how much money this camera will earn them during the course of their ownership, in as much as a more expensive camera won’t always mean making more money and therefore reduce your profit margin. Hope this helps.

CFexpress Type B definitely protects against any points of failure coming from external cabling, which can be a high priority for some users given the environment they are filming in. After a quick check on Amazon the cost of a 512GB CFexpress type B card from Lexar (£151), Angelbird (£128) and Sandisk (£290!) at a mean average of cost of £189 still outweighs the cost of a 500GB Samsung T7 SSD at £73.99, or even 1TB at £99.99, from your local Argos in the UK at least. I think Blackmagic are still aware of that disparity in price with the inclusion of the usb-c expansion port and the SSD mounting plate coming with the PYXIS as standard. How much are CFexpress type B cards where you are?

Also , I love your channel , good lighting , good quality . I have my bones to pick w the pyxis , which are the fixed monitor , no pro res support and the 13 stops of DR ..., other than those its a good cam for the price. I would love to see rig breakdowns , Universal rigs that work across multiple systems forexample ( other than the cage and a few stuff ofc. ) . Its not something that the community needs , it is very easy to make a good rig if u have the parts , but I assume ( considering the views on rig builds ) that everyone enjoys to see a nice rig ! and also it is helpful to hear if a part regulary breaks or does not work well after a short period of time . That would have saved me from getting 3 smallrig monitor mounts and getting a kondor blue instad or an Ifootage magic arm.

Thanks so much for the constructive feedback, it's much appreciated. I think for me, any camera of choice comes down to its end use and result for the client and there are always compromises no matter which one it is. Good to hear your ideas on universal rigging solutions. I've had a few ideas around making a video on pieces of invaluable/universally usable kit when it comes to rigging my camera, so I'll be sure to look into it in future videos.

@plutoX1982 2 месяца назад
1st - All the box cameras need to be rigged out. So of course the price is not ' All you can eat'. Otherwise just use phones. 2nd- Pyxis is in fact the cheapest box camera can do 6k open gate full frame in the market and have amazing workflow, especially BM ecosystem like DR, cloud etc 3rd- Pyxis seems to be useful for ppl who already have kits and now can utilise the new box camera without spending way too much. 4th - It seems to be not for newbies or Vloggers who trying to compare a cinema/ production camera with a smart phone, dslr, or hybrid cameras.
@goodfitkit
@goodfitkit 2 месяца назад
Great observations. To the professional eye the design of the PYXIS immediately sets it apart as a production camera in need of additional or existing gear, also determining its target market. Even with these additions the price/performance ratio is still pretty hard to beat.
@poti732
@poti732 2 месяца назад
Its not something that You will see on professional sets, it is not for newbies but not for professionals either. The side monitor is not on the AC-s side, it has 13 stops of dr w no pro res support, it needs more minimum one more SDI , the XLR is not full sized and only has ONE. The price is cool , ofc we all know that box cameras need to be rigged out , thats the point. Still if you have a built in screen it SHOULD EITHER BE SOMETHING THST YOU CAN SEE OR ON THE RIGHT SIDE SO THE AC CAN SEE IT .
@plutoX1982
@plutoX1982 2 месяца назад
@@poti732 agree to all of that. It doesnt have all but this will still do the jobs, 'mid range' jobs and definitely can make money back. If you afford a more professional one then you can upgrade according specific jobs. I watched Grand interview few year back, and his mantra was very clear 'Is to give people tools so that they can get familiar with professional workflows without breaking the budget before upgrading to a more serious system for their work and become successful'. This completely make alo ot sense. I really love to have a box camera that having all the features you have mentioned but I dont have 20k.
@poti732
@poti732 2 месяца назад
@@plutoX1982 nah l u dont need 20k , used komodos go for 5-6 , kinefinity is even cheaper , there is the panasonic cube cam , the Z cam . These are all between reasonable price ranges, all boxes . They have every feature other than the XLR that iv listed above. Point being.. we could have gotten a REALLY GOOD BALCKMAGIC BOX for a bit more money, these are not huge things to fix. Add pro res support, make the screen tiltable or on the right side , give one but full sized xlr and one more sdi , nobody would care about the 13 stops of dr if we have all that.

Honestly, even though out of my price range the most expensive kit you put together seemed like a pretty decent price to me. I shoot L-mount so fortunatley I have lenses, I already have a Ninja V, V-mount battery and CF cards so luckily for me the price really accomadtes me as an L-mount user. I've waitied a long time to have one cam for stills (s5II) and one for cinematography, this finally looks like a viable options (fingers crossed).

Even better! Though I can’t speak to the longevity of other brands, I’ve been more than happy with the various Samsung T and Evo series SSDs I’ve used for a while now. I can definitely recommend them. Ultimately I can only speak from my own experience, but my bmpcc 4K is still very much going strong, with no signs of slowing down after buying from new in 2020. Maybe firmware updates and support for the cinema camera line up, which now dates back 6 years, could count towards putting your mind at ease that BMD intend for their offering to hold up over time. these black magic camera s are just repackage pocket 4ks processors with different sensors added to them. they use cheap tricks like cropping into the sensor, instead of down-sampling, to get lesser formats and more frame rates. so, if you have some noises at open gate, you ll have big popcorn noises of the same image crop to 1080 for examlpe. Black magic carmera s do have a good image given adequate lighting condition. Blackmagic 6K Pro Pocket or Panasonic LUMIX S5IIx seem like a better value than the Pyxis for now. 3K fOR a box frame + 2k for needed elements = 5k or more....
