The Frederick Forsyth's book The Odessa Files describes this kind of vehicle. According the novel, a Jew watched a vehicle like a bus in Riga Latvia, carrying some of them. Later they figured out the vehicle was a gas chamber. They were called by them Dunamund's Convoys

One of the survivor videos on USC Shoah RU-vid channel said she was a teen hiding 2nd floor of a house looked out the window saw a gas van drive by heard a woman screaming from inside the van after it had picked up a small group of Jewish people found hiding in the village. She had been with that group but stayed in that house they decided to run to another home where they were caught.

What makes this a Fowler flap and not just a flap? Is it the bottom hinged part of the flap? I can see how hinging it like that allows it to be more curved but I could still think of the whole assembly as one flap
I think fowler flaps are several slotted flaps in "serie". If there was only one flap going back and going down, that would be a single slotted flap- If you have 2 or more different flaps in the same setup (2 in the animation above but old Boeing have 3 flaps in serie, i.e. started with the B727 and continued with the B737, 757, 767 all the way to the 747) that would be fowler flaps
What I find especially amazing about this setup is that these linkages allow the very complicated synchronization of each component of the flaps to be done with just a single actuator.
