@@ConsideredShred have you checked out this guest solo by James? The feeling in this lead is beautiful but still has so fast runs ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3dKrDiyp3Oc.htmlsi=lCMlc6Djex8_Dobs
Thank you brother I agree, those two are my favourite death metal lead players. Dave Suzuki is also up there too for me. His lead work in Vital Remains and Churchburn is insane
Legendary shit man, the transitioning between alternate picking and legato runs is actually crazy. This is my favorite Disincarnate solo and probably one of my favorite guitar solos in general. Great work dude, you're an inspiration \m/
Thanks a lot man that means a lot, I appreciate it. I'd say it's my favourite disincarnate solo too. The tone on the rhythm guitars in the second section of the solo is massive.
Thanks a lot :) Honestly its nothing too special. Im playing straight into an orange crush 35rt combo amp on the neck pickup with the reverb cranked all the way up. The EQ settings for this video were treble at 7, mids at 5 and bass at 7. I didn't really look at or touch the settings before recording. I'm also playing the track itself through the amp too while I'm playing, so you might be hearing a bit of Muhammeds tone. I did try to make sure my guitar was a lot louder than the track though. But anyway, cheers!
Thanks a lot mate. I would like to start recording covers that way, I have all the gear. I'm just not sure how I would sync up the audio and the video haha. I'll have to learn how to do all that
Thanks heaps mate I appreciate it :) I was hoping to use the mirage for this video, but it's been with my guitar tech for about a month now. The jackson bridge posts broke so it's getting a gotoh installed and a bunch of other stuff. Very keen to use it for the next one.
@@seancjmatthews I couldn't actually lower the action anymore since the bridge was floored on the body of the guitar. The jackson tremolo was designed to be floating, but the factory esp tremolo was a top mount. Since it is a neck thru guitar too, that means I couldn't shim the neck to make it work. But I tried to lower it anyway and one of the posts came out of the body, who ever drilled the post, drilled it on an angle and didn't secure it properly. So I got a new Gotoh tremolo for it and had the body recessed so it can float. It also got fully repainted because all the paint started coming off when the protective tape was pulled off lol. No serious damage to the guitar, it'll come back even better.
Thanks a lot mate. I learnt this particular solo by ear. It was super easy to hear everything accurately when slowed down to 50%-75% speed. Probably due to James laser precision playing. I learn everything by ear mostly.
That's a better approach than tabs but it's more time consuming. Though it's really satisfying if you get something down by ear. I wish I could play James' solos one day but I kinda suck at solos.
@@wskii2 Yeah it takes a while but it is mega beneficial in the long run. You can't really trust tabs, they are usually always wrong. And when something is correct note wise, perhaps what has been tabbed out was actually played in a different position on the neck/on different strings. You can hear the difference in the timbre of a note depending on what string it is played on. But now I'm just rambling, I fully recommend learning by ear. And you'll be able to play some James solos for sure, just have to take your time and practice them slowly. They really helped level up my alternate picking precision. He's definitely one of the best at that stuff, like super tight and precise.
You nailed it dude, sounds super good. What scale is this solo written in? I'm trying to learn it but i am struggling and figured I would put some time into practicing the scale. Thanks in advance brother.
I appreciate thanks a lot man. This solo is all in natural minor (aeolian if i'm correct). Good luck! Murphy solos are great for getting your precise alternate picking chops up.
Nah man anyone can learn to play stuff like that, just needs a lot of time and patience :) Starting from the beginning again and revisiting your technique is where it all starts.
All your vids are sick bro, im happy to see James Murphy get recognition for being as talented of a guitarist as he is. Id really appreciate it if you could do solo covers from other disincarnate songs, in particular Id like to see In Sufferance, Confine of Shadows, or Deadspawn. Stay brutal \m/
Thanks a lot man, I appreciate it a lot. He is for sure one of the greatest metal guitarists out there. I'm planning on learning the confine of shadows solo next. It might take some time though, there is a lot going on in that one and it will probably be pretty hard to learn and play haha. But it will come eventually.
Wow this is phenomenal. Can you recommend any practice routines for the sweeps and fast legato runs? And pinch harmonics? My rhythm is solid and I can play most of the album but i suck at leads. Yours is like the best cover i’ve seen of a James Murphy solo, bravo man 🔥👏🏽
Hey man, thanks so much for the kind words I appreciate it a lot. The main routine that I used when learning how to sweep pick started with Leper Messiah by Metallica. I don't think Kirk sweeps the arpeggios when he plays the solo but its a good practice routine for a beginner since they only cross 3 strings. Next would be Dechristianize by Vital Remains. Dave Suzikis sweep section is perfect for a practice routine, just learn it and play it slowly to a metronome until you can play it up to speed cleanly. Lastly would be the sweep picked section in Altitudes by Jason Becker. It's pretty insane but it would be another great practice routine to get around different arpeggio shapes. For legato runs you could just practice 3 note per string hammer on/pull off sequences up and down the strings I suppose. And I never had a practice routine for pinch harmonics. I use Jazz III picks which make them easier for me personally. Good luck :)
It’s like you have the same exact taste as me, every video you’ve uploaded is a song i listen to, didn’t even notice you were the guy doing all of these awesome covers, the wintersun one was super impressive. Keep up the good work!
Haha thanks so much man, I'm into a lot of different stuff. I'm going to try to do more covers, it's hard to find time to learn stuff in between working with my bands, but I'll probably do James Murphys solo in survival reaction by solstice. Or perhaps a black dahlia lead/song, who knows. Keep shredding, your playing is pretty tight.
