Before moving go spend some time there and see how horrible it is ....also see how much it it to register your vehicle and yearly tag renewal...you will easily pay $600 ro over $700 just to register it....than every year they assess the value of your car and charge you that price you can pay $170 or over $250 just to renue you tags every year...crime is bad 5 people got shot on the Greenway.....they hype this place too much it's not worth it.
I've been living here for over a decade now :) It has its pros and cons and, moving here from Los Angeles, was a big change indeed. That being said, there is crime everywhere, especially metropolitan cities. Raleigh has many very safe neighborhoods and suburbs. According to Propertyclub, Rolesville, just NE of Raleigh was the number 1 safest city in NC. I am not an insurance agent but if you do a quick search, you'll get the following answer on car insurance costs: North Carolina's car insurance rates are generally lower than the national average: Full coverage North Carolina averages $1,627-$1,827 per year, while the national average is $2,008-$2,278. Minimum coverage North Carolina averages $536 per year, compared to the national average of $621-$627.
Lovely ❤ I have a question about Pets, I have two cats they are indoor outdoor, I see most properties there don’t have fence. Is it a big deal for neighbors if they see cat outside? I know I need fenced yard, maybe a catio. What are some dangers predators for cats there? Are snakes big problem, is there a lot of them? I live in Arizona, all cats are here protected by the law and can roam freely. Btw could you please do segment video on pets, thank you 😊

As usual, great informative video Mihai! However, I have a question. According to NEC 2020 - 210.8(A), a NEMA receptacle installed in the garage requires a GFI breaker. NC does follow NEC 2020, does this rule apply here? Or there is an amendment that does not require a GFI. In other words, do we need a GFI breaker when the outlet is used for an EV charger Thanks and keep up the great materials coming!
As far as I know a GFCI breaker is not required by code yet. According to the electrician, it will highly likely to be added to the next update though :)
I moved here back in 1988 to take a job with American Airlines and traveled all over the world. Bought a place in Cary back in 1989 for $43,000.00, and now places on that same street are selling for close $300,000.00 These places are not big and I describe them as a _birdcages._ I tell people the street I live on is an _anomaly_ in Cary as I am surrounded by homes worth half a million and up. I jokingly refer to my neighborhood as the _slum of Cary._ Crazy. I couldn't afford to move here today. I am established so I can easily afford to live here, but wouldn't be able to afford to move here again like I did back in 1988.

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! You'll see the most diversity in Raleigh. However, Holly Springs, Garner, Cary, Apex, Wake Forest, Chapel Hill, Durham can all be excellent choices! Although the area grew exponentially since we moved here from Los Angeles in 2011, I'd say you are about 30 min driving distance from most places. If you like parks, greenways, lakes, hikes, restaurants, pubs, museums, movie theaters, planetarium, they are all very accessible. Downtown Apex is like a little gem just as Wake Forest's or Garner's. While a few years ago Cary's downtown was somewhat boring, today you can spend a whole day walking around and not get bored :) Carrboro, right next to Chapel Hill has a music festival that is just pure joy. This video was just a little taste of what is happening round Raleigh. :) I actually have a video about every major suburb of Raleigh, including the most popular neighborhoods in each city. I am not an electrcian but I am 99% sure that was not supposed to pass the inspection. Here are some thoughts after I installed one after watching a ton of videos: 1. A nema 14-50 is supposed to be setup for 50 amps (the 50 in the name stands for 50 amps) - if the next homeowner plugs something 50amps in, it isnt going to work so it isn't to code. This is why some people hardwire instead of buying plugin versions. This one isn't a big deal though. 2. You had 8 gauge romex run. The max amperage on that is 40 amps. For EV chargers the wiring is supposed to have a 25% buffer because heat builds up on continuous high load. A 40amp wire can only supply a constant load of 32amps via an EV charger to be code. So 7kw not 8-9kw mentioned. I didnt see charger model mentioned to see if it maxed out at 32amps or is programmable to 32 amps. 3. I dont think you are allowed to install 2 outlets off that one breaker as it could be used at the same time as your charger and eat into your 25% buffer. 4. That subpanel looks overloaded - we cannot see the breaker size feeding it, but based on the thin aluminum wire on the mains, I suspect you dont have the buffer needed there either with all the other stuff also in that subpanel. 5. You are supposed to use a GFCI breaker for this install with a 14-50 outlet. If you had a hard-wired charger this would not be required until the latest electrical code is in place. For a NEMA 14-50 plug, 6ga should be run with a 50 amp GFCI breaker but doing that probably makes #4 above even more of an issue. There are also a lot of people who say those cheapie 14-50 outlets melt and catch on fire - I would recommend swapping for a hubble industrial outlet. Anyway the most cost effective way for this run is to buy a hard wired charger that supports capping at 32amps then you can use 8ga wire (40 amp) and a standard breaker (40amp).
That is a GREAT observation! I'm not an electrician either :) That being said, the breakers have been indeed replaced with 50 amp ones which was required to pass inspection. :) I think Mark could answer it in details. Bottom line is that around the Triangle, homeowners can take advantage of the Duke Energy rebate program to offset the cost of their EV charger installation. This is a great upgrade in an older home, especially if they are thinking about selling it in the future. Thanks again for your input!
You have a pretty good understanding for someone who is not an electrician. I am an electrician. I thoroughly enjoy picking apart these EV charger videos lol. 1. Your first point is valid, except that code allows for a 50 amp outlet on a 40 amp circuit because they don't make 40 amp outlets. 2. Yes #8 romex needs to be on a 40 amp breaker. And yes 32 amp maximum load since it is a continuous load. The Clipper Creek charger plugged into the outlet at the end of the video charges at 40 amps, so this is a somewhat dangerous installation. That wire and the outlets are going to get HOT. 3. I think each outlet is a separate home run 4. Probably true. I doubt that subpanel is capable of charging two cars at once and supporting the other loads on it simultaneously without toasting the feeders. 5. That is correct. Hardwired chargers have integrated GFCI protection. 14-50 outlets in the garage need GFCI breakers. That sounds expensive. What a waste of money. I would have just ran some conduit to avoid cutting up the walls and installed two hardwired chargers. As EV chargers don't ever use a neutral wire and never will, running 4-wire cable to 14-50 outlets for EV chargers is wasteful IMO. Hardwired chargers are safer, charge faster, and install for cheaper.
Manufacture specs on installation of the 14-50R state that it can be installed with 50A or 40A OCP. This particular application we installed 8-3 romex with OCP of 40A (qty of 2…. Cables and breakers). Load calculation was performed before agreeing to installation of both new circuits. AHJ did question 40A rated wire feeding a 14-50R due to your exact concern for the next homeowner but since it was installed according to the manufacturer’s specifications, it was passed. Labels were placed on both the breakers and receptacles to notate for future homeowner.

Someone once said that imagination is more important than knowledge as knowledge is limited :) :) Yet, this time I would make an exception, have it permitted and installed by a licensed electrician and apply for a rebate. It is a great addition to a house that doesn't have one :)

Not ingenious, extremely messy. Also, those are the same exact 24v motors I have on my robotic mower & they run off of 2 12v batteries connected in series. Not friggin car batteries. If it runs at all, it’s going to end up frying the motor controller by overloading it with more current than it can handle. He has like 3 different shut off switches.. 🤦🏼♀️ You only need one & it’s embedded in the flysky fs-i6x controller. You can set your fall back setting to trigger the servo to cut fuel to the engine literally the second it moves out of range. Also, wtf is up with the two boxes on either side? You need to carry all of the mowers replacements parts or something? lol I know that to your moronic untrained eyes, this looks like a Mona Lisa. It isn’t. It’s a very simple, straight forward robotics project that everyone & their mother have done an excellent job of building, except this random idiot in NC. lmao
