Hi! Just want to say that currently (Jul 16, 2024) there is a very large oil & gas operation trying to go in just east of Sunset Village. Not only is this risky in terms of normal fracking risks, Sunset Village is on top of an abandoned coal mine, which is probably fine for the homes under normal circumstances but a total unknown when the fracking lines are placed underneath. Despite placement in a Geohazard Zone automatically requiring additional studies and paperwork, the state waived that need. This means there have been no studies of the potential impacts to landowners above the mines! The plan (Draco pad) is awaiting final approval and there is almost no time to act. Very soon the only people who can protest are those who can claim "Affected Party Status" as landowners who will be affected by the drilling.
Hi Leslie, I appreciate your comment. With Erie orginally being a coal mining town, many of the neighborhoods are sitting above parts of the coal mine. The home developers and home builders have to conduct a bunch of testing on the soils before they start building out a neighborhood and make adjustments as needed. I have helped many Buyers purchase new build homes and all of these reports are part of the due diligence docs provided to a Buyer when they go under contract on a home. I agree that there are concerns with fracking, however if a person decides to buy a home in a certain neighborhood, I always encourage them to do the research and read all the builder documents before purchasing a home in a given neighborhood. 🏡
