Well it all started with Bruce Lee (in pop culture in the west that is!) and Bruce Lee started with a Traditional Kung Fu style called Wing Chun, under the tuition of the then Grandmaster Ip Man, whom he was introduced to by his friend and fellow Ip Man disciple and now Grandmaster, William Cheung !. Who also happens to be my Sifu! (teacher). They are my roots in Traditional Kung Fu and its from those experiences that I have developed the content of the Traditional Kung Fu Channel!. Happy viewing!
Nobody that talks shit about William cheung would've dared open their mouth to him in his heyday. Real easy to talk shit online, another thing altogether to get your face smashed up for talking shit in-person. He would've shit out these nobody naysayers in little chunks. Cheung was a feared fighter in the day; defeated many so-called masters from different styles, and took on all challengers. Also came through many street fights. Shit-talkers are a dime a dozen, but they would shit all over themselves if they ever met Cheung in person. Your opinion means dick.
Wing chun principles are exposed so to better the system, in this martial art bοοk οn a***οn, titled Myths and blind spots in the fighting arts’ world. No wc man should be without it.
Like Dana said it works even though he made it up no yip man , and the foot work of all other wing chuns is resritive , I trained this in Melbourne for five years ,but students would not fight like my wado mates in UK ,
Do you learn how to enforce this positioning during training? Especially in dynamic situations? Do you learn how to apply chi sao techniques in real situations? In other words: how to force a real fight to follow the principles of Wing Chun? Because there are ways to force Wing Chun in a real fight. And this is the essence of Wing Chun. It's a pity that almost no one teaches this. Neither do you. At least from what you can see in this video.
People like Cheung should help clear the air publicly about the integrity of martial arts. Because a lot of "schools" teach clients moves that seem useless in a real fight situation, some people on social media are calling martial arts bullshit. Including Wing Chun. "Muhammad Ali would have beaten Bruce Lee easily in a real street fight". Nonsense like that. There's 2 things: martial arts systems; and how well or poorly they're taught.
@@deanmarshall1650 Oh, I already know that. I had a friend who'd been trained in it for years. He was advanced in both Wing Chun and Jujitsu. I hadn't heard of Wing Chun until then. Long time ago! I just don't like how online rumor mills try to discredit the systems and in the same breath try to discredit Bruce Lee - esp when he isn't around to make the case.
Wow I keep on coming back to this video over the years and one thing I learned today was the Teacher teaches and the students learn they do not talk at all!! I am a welder/ pipe fitter of 30+ yrs and i train people regularly...and the most annoying hindrance in my teaching is a student /apprentice that not only taks back to me but speaks to me like they already know the lesson ... the student should be silent and learn from old wisdom! Live this man he is special! Much respect!
He 'is' practicing WC. Just because he is not practicing your 'dialect' of WC, does not mean it is not valid. Read some books, do some research...there are many lineages of wing chun. Even Ip Man changed bits and pieces of his wing chun between the time he lived in Foshan and the time he ended up in Hong Kong. GM William Cheung's system of Wing Chun is awesome. Even Bruce Lee considered William to be the best street fighter Bruce had ever seen. Bruce told his students in the USA how awesome William Cheung was. This is a fact. Peace.
Joe has talked about Bruce Lee on the Podcast many times before. It could be interesting to see Bruce's Childhood friend and senior in Wing Chun, William Cheung, provide some context to Joe and Downey Jr's Traditional Wing Chun discussion.
Rogan claims that Ferguson does trapping hands and uses WC all the time🤣😂🤣😂🤣He's such a sucker, especially when he's high! And Downey is full of crap as well, he knows nothing real.
Honestly, he never finished the complete WC training from Ip Man. That's why his style is quite different from Ip Man or his students. The forms William showed are created/imagined on his own. But he is good at making the public to believe that are the forms. I am not saying randomly. If one looks for what 'Sifu Kwok Fu' interview and Ip Chun said, one would know more about the fact. Also, if one really knows WC basic, one can see William does violate some WC principle e.g. off elbow.
The forms were shown to William by Yip Man, they're from Leung Bik Wor, Leung Jan's son (Yip Man's second teacher) the more common interpretation of the forms that you see in most schools were taught to William along with the rest of Yip Man's students came came from Yip Man's first teacher Chan Wah Shun. You can't judge the Leung Bik Wor version through the lens of the Chan Wah Shun version. The objectives are different, therefore they prioritise different principles and strategy. One advocates fighting centreline to centreline, the other advocates stepping off line and fighting on the opponents flank controlling the leading elbow. They have different weight distribution and footwork depending on there distinctive objectives, same style and training methods. Different application and usage.
Grandmaster Willams Chen has been a significant proponent of vital point-striking and fight-ending applications. It is a shame that most other WC sifu do not teach this aspect of the art. What I like about it is that it allows us to integrate different forms of "close-door" kung fu skills.
Derek had talent shame he died so early. He was forged at Victor Kan school along side me, later for a few months trained with William Cheung..The reason why Biu Jee form does not go out the door as it shows the systems venerability not because it is deadly. Just a form. By learning some drilled applications using your fingers will end up damaging your fingers. If you do not have the right standard in Kung Fu ability it's useless in the value.
