I'm a stickler for movies and shows being authentic and accurate but both this movie and Rogue Heroes are brilliant! They don't pretend to be anything but entertaining.
Thank you for such a great video! This part of the war has always interested me and the order of battle wasn’t easy to find. Thank you for taking the time to cover this. I hope you will make a follow up about the siege to come??
Battle between two European gangsters, for the largest economy in the world which was eventually destroyed by the British to develop its own. Talking about Clive the gangster he himself built a little empire of his own.
Thanks for this fascinating documentary Chris. My great Grandfather was involved in this conflict having run away from home to join the marines in 1897 at the age of 17 (he lied about his age). He was on the HMS Barfleur and then HMS Centurion and I believe was then part of the Admiral Seymour's failed rescue mission. My grandma often mentioned about how her father was involved but it's only now I'm learning more. Thanks again.
I think the Anglo Mysore wars would be a great topic to discuss. While lot has been spoken about the uprising of 1857, the Anglo Mysore wars were significant in Indian history.
I'm coming to this video two days late. Interestingly, yours popped up immediately after I finished watching "Forgotten Weapons" latest video on the Martini Henry rifle. Thank you for another great story.
Fired back with rifles. Contrary to popular belief, they had imported a lot of guns over the years, although these weren’t particularly modern or in brilliant working order.
This was really a foolish thing to invest in as an empire, and they get absolutely no credit for it. They should have just kept to their own business. We would be better off today in Britain.
£80 in gold, silver and copper coins about £10,000 in todays money, take a minute to let that sink in! A Pound basically lost 99.2% of its value in 113 years. Crazy too if you had 80 gold sovrigns today they'd worth over £33,000.
I really enjoy these videos on the Victorian era, maybe something on the Anglo Mysore wars or Anglo Burmese wars. Just a thought, thanks for your work.
“Oh, for a gatling!” groaned [Captain] Good, as he contemplated the serried phalanxes beneath us. “I would clear that plain in twenty minutes”. Quote from Haggard's “King Solomon’s Mines”. Echoes of Inyezane here?
Interesting tale... My family did all right in India. My great, great grandfather rose to the rank of IGIP - Inspector General, Imperial Police. His daughter married the man who was to become the royal court artist to the Maharajah of Mysore, and some of his paintings still adorn the walls of Mysore Palace.
