Great video. I catch a lot of fish in New York but my family is from Wexford. I would always try fishing in the many years I went over to visit but never had much luck. It’s nice to see someone who knows what they’re doing catching fish there. Here in New York we catch blackfish or tautog which are similar to wrasse but without the nice colors. It’s very cool to see them being caught from the shore in Ireland. Great fish, great country 🐟 🇮🇪
Hello great content i want to use this rod in 70-130g range for catfish fishing from shore. Do you think it is powerfull enough ? Casting far enough 100g lure ?
Met this man today at the opening day for my local fishing shop and honestly he is the most civil and down to earth lad stood chatting him for 10-15 mins and he was explaining everything and showing good interest in sharing his knowledge thanks again for that buddy 🎣
MY God that's an absolute stunner of a Ferox , the colors and the shape. a prize of bronze that no one may ever see again even hold. Mighty amazing fish. Does the loch have any record keeping or tagging management systems through angling clubs like floy tagging to monitor populations of caught and released fish to monitor fish conditions?.
You shouldnt have to rationalize your taking fish for the table vis a vie, sustainability. The sustainability argument pertains to commercial fishing, the bulk of, being done by foreign vessels, particularly trawlers. Ireland traded fishing rights for EU supports of the farming, read livestock. How's that working? Sacrificing rich fishing grounds to an unelected, governing body that now wants to control the number of cows and sheep farmers are allowed to have. So much for sovereignty. Nice foraging by the way
Unfortunately some people don't see the difference in what im doing and what a massive trawler is doing. We are both put under the "taking of fish" umbrella.
Hello! Please tell me in what area you can look for scallops? I live in the Cork area, I go to Ballycotton very often. At what depth should you collect scallops? Thank you!👍
2:47 I got a very similar lure as yours with weight and hooks underneath. You said to let the lure sink down... When I do that I always get my lure stuck in the grass or reeds, how do you avoid that? Didn't look like you got caught anywhere at all 🤔
Anyone?? Is the savage gear rods in green colour (sg4 light game rod 75759), the exact same as Ron Thomson 'Shoot Out' Lure rods? They sure look the same, same range, same specs, just different stickers? Anyone?
Legal amount is 2 each and there is 2 of us ! Maybe check regulations and get onto the ifi if you have an issue. If two rods go it's one each obviously! And if 3 goes you hook into both so the pike can't swallow it.
That was hard going alright ..🙄 Those dropped runs are more soul-destroying than not getting any bites at all !!... 😂 I'm on a fishin break at the moment, I had around 15 blank sessions from mid november through all december, not even a jack... fishing 5 or 6 different venues (all bank deadbaiting) ... I needed to step away before I totally lost my motivation. I'll go back at the start of february, in the meantime, its you and other YT pikers who keep my spirits up... Keep on keepin on, lads !! (BTW... thanks for not having the music blaring like some do...and nice drone footage) Tight lines 😎👍☘️🍺
Cheers Peter. 15! That's a hard one to take! And I bet if you went out with a friend and said we will spend the day fishing and not care if we catch, you would have great pike to the bank. Cheers for the music complement. I did make a mistake on one part but do try.
That is the case with circle hooks for sure, But what iv found without a good hookset you ultimately loose more fish easing into the strike, But i suppose each to there own and enjoy the fishing. Thanks for the comment :)
@@freak.fishing yeah, I agree... I've not bought into the current fad of circle hooks, I read elsewhere that fighting a fish whilst the hook is embedded in the hinge of the jaw may in fact NOT be very good for the fishes health either...we just don't know... My "bible" for all things piking is Jens Bursells fantastic book "Pike Fever" ... his analysis of rigs and bait presentation are sublime, deffo worth the price... The main takeaway from his writings on deadbaiting is smaller hooks and super-light bait hook-holds, leave the bait elastic to the sea anglers, shedding the bait on striking is the key... and his "sliding rigs" are a paradigm shift in rig design in my estimation... very technical.. 🤔
Where do ye get water so calm?! I was on corrib yesterday and even though light winds there were waves. Do you think around islands with cover is good tactic for dead bait fishing or do you prefer open water?
There was very little wind that day. I wouldn't go on a lake like that if there was much wind. A river section would be a better option in that case. around islands can be good but each lake is different, its more depends on what the water is like beside the islands if its a deep hole or all shallow.
Very nice. Very predatory once they reach a few pounds. I am being pestered by rainbows in a fishery at the moment. Bank fishing and the pike are doing well to find my deadbaits with the so and so's! Getting more pike on lures to keep me going. But not the big girls. Unless you count the stockie Trout! I'm not comparing those to your Ferox by the way! In the UK I fished a commerical for big Perch using two and 3oz Roach. I caught a few but also landed lots of smallish Carp of a few pounds. It's surprising what will take a deadbait. Anyway congrats on the trout and of course all the Pike you both landed.
