Really a cool old scooter... I had a Cushman , i believe, the Pacesetter, ca.1962 model ,it had a fiberglas cover over the engine and rear tire, gastank above rear tire. The motor looks the same. Keep after it it worth it .
I am trying to get a similar Cushman running. I think there might be a spun key in the flywheel. Anyone have any idea if there is a way to make sure the flywheel is reinstalled properly?
Stuck valve. I bought a brand new 1959 for my paper rout. That sucker was about $100.00 more than a Vespa. I paid $535.00 out the door. That was really high dollar back then. When I was 15, I traded it for a 1937 Plymouth Business Coupe. After about 2 weeks, I wanted my scooter back.
@@ForsakenSteel I already know. I’ve owned the car for 16 years and wanted to have it built for my son in high school but see the way my bank account is structured 😂
ARE YOU SURE thats a 76 F150 ranger? i just got a 76 F150 ranger a couple months ago and it dont have shoulder belts and it has gas cap flap covers? its having similar problems as this one, its soiled its 3rd prepump filter so ive ordered a new tank, sender and carb since i cant get choke to work AND idle slow enough to not jerk into gear, at same time
It's definitely a 76 Ranger. The second tank was a dealer add on I believe. If you want to follow this truck it belongs to another RU-vider now. He has done a ton of work to make it more roadworthy. His channel is Junker Clunker and here's a link. Thanks for watching and good luck with your truck. youtube.com/@junkerclunkerz?si=4w0Rxvo65_ertkTq
It belongs to my buddy and he decided to stop messing with it for now. His plan is a full rebuild but he also has a shop and builds muscle cars so who knows when that will be. I just wanted to ride this thing around the yard so bad. Anyways thanks for watching I appreciate it.
Through a company one line. www.dennis-carpenter.com/cushman/books-amp-manuals/parts-books/?srsltid=AfmBOops_yXGbVRD08j3cXHrs7arAEjI3uWxaU0OBSRAapmtfk8XPpttarpenter
Well I still haven't changed it. The last quote I had to have it rebuilt was $2700 that included a new torque converter and me doing the work. That was a year ago from a local builder. Hope this helps.
Small Engine 101...If it has been sitting for a long period of time, first things first,#1) If no spark, check points by physically pulling them out to inspect, typically they will need replacing. Step #2 While waiting for the points and condensor to arrive pull the carb off and thoroughly go thru it and especially replace the needle 'n seat and soak it overnight in carb cleaner, reassemble and put back on. #3) If it has NO compression it is usually a stuck or non sealing valve,(typically the exhaust valve),simply "lap" the valves back into the seats and reassemble. #4) Check the ring end gap of each ring it should be between .010" to .015",(by way of you kicking it over by hand it has far too little compression to even pop off!!! Should have atleast 80PSI to run,[but poorly],should be 100PSI atleast to be viable),if it is greater than .015" order a new set of rings, then reassemble. After all that it should start first kick!!! I can tell you have not had much experience in small engine trouble shooting by the way this video went!!
I am most definitely not a small engine guy. I actually screen shot this information you shared so I can go back to it later. This Cushman belongs to a friend of mine and I just wanted to ride it in the yard so bad. Anyways he is planning on doing a full rebuild later on. Thanks for watching and all the information clearly I need it. 😂
I used the same one as the small block. I had to cut it down but it worked out good. I don't know the part number but you can get that easily enough. Thanks for watching.
I believe you are correct. It belongs to my buddy and currently is on his covered deck as art. He keeps saying he will rebuild the engine. However he's like me and has a lot of irons in the fire. Thanks for watching!
I’ve got to ls swap my 92 Camaro: it’s a roller that’s been sitting for 3 years but I just got it. I’ve got to replace all the interior. And I’ve got to paint the car. And I’ve got to put a 6.0 and 4l60e in. And I’ve got to figure out a good rear end. And my mechanic skills goes to the level of about brakes and alternators. I can do a lot of stuff. But I’ve just not done a lot of it even tho I’m pretty confident I can. But all this is overwhelming. I’ve got to do it myself bc I don’t have the money to pay for any labor. It’s taking me years to get a roller to start with. And will take a year probably to get all the parts I need. But I’m not doing a quick junk yard build. I’m wanting to be able to go to car shows with the car. And I’m going to have to lean on RU-vid a LOT. So if anyone has any pointers for a ls swap in a 92 Camaro I’d appreciate it
Well I'm glad you were able to get the car. If you have any questions on what to buy and such just reach out. I have a lot of videos on this swap. The swap could be done cheaper than I did it but I have about $9K in the entire swap. It's definitely not cheap. However I did make some mistakes and had to buy things twice. The biggest experience was the low mileage engine $3K I just didn't have time to go through a high mileage one. Best of luck on your project. Thanks for watching!
No it belongs to a friend of mine and he said I'll just rebuild it in the future. He has been using it as art on his covered patio. I wanted to ride this thing so bad! Thanks for watching.
All I wanted to do was ride this thing in the yard. It belongs to my buddy and he is going to do a full rebuild eventually. Sorry yours was stolen, that really sucks. Thanks for watching!
definitely needed this video before I walked into trying to figure out why my stuff wont line up since it sounds like I'll deal with some of the same. Also swapping from a BMR Crossmember to the Hooker because it just feels like it's mandatory for a street car with out the back exhaust. Going out today to see how my swap goes, mine's a T56/9" with an adjustable torque arm and I actually had hell getting the clamshell ta mount to fit on the BMR so I'm hoping somehow this ends up being easier lol
I'm glad you got some help out of my mistakes. I hope your project goes smoothly. Let me know how the Hooker cross member works for you. Thanks for watching!
Well I had been looking for a used T56 that didn't have 200,000 miles for a long time. I saw that drift guys were using these behind LS engines and thought that should work. I Looked a lot on the Internet and didn't see anyone putting one in a third gen. Now after all the work I know why. I would not recommend it to anyone else. Thanks for watching!
it would be easier but a cd009 with adapter parts and do all this done to it is still cheaper and stronger than an off the shelf t56 magnum. Then by some odd chance you do break one you can get another for like 800 dollars and swap everything over. I'm doing the cd009 swap in an 86 monte carlo now and its not too difficult.
@@ForsakenSteel will do. I don’t know if I’ll be taking my 1978 F350 dually. It’s an old car hauler, 16’ flatbed….nice and low to the ground. Has a Gen 7 496 bbc with fuel injection and a 4L80e with overdrive. I literally just got it running right last week. I’m in SE Wisconsin and I think you’re from Michigan?
@@daviddenman7479 I love the old car haulers when they are good and low. There is an Earl 60's Ford (I think) Fire truck near me that I want to convert to a ramp truck. I actually live in Tennessee. Evidently I have turned my hillbilly down too much. 😂
Not that I'm aware of. I would start with pulling a coil pack and testing for spark. Then look to see what the fuel pressure is. Good luck sorry I couldn't be of more help. Also double check everything got plugged back in.
@@ForsakenSteel yessir still tryna get into work I tried priming it a little and shot tons of oil out idk if Im supposed to keep doing that or what lol
@@ForsakenSteel welp could never get it running tried everything the junk yard said they would give me another one. I think the one I got was maybe bad. The car it came from had no crash damage..sooo either there for a bad motor or trans
Its hard to tell from the video, you cant feel the metal but if looks like you ended up with a workable piece. You just need to spend some time with a hammer and dolly and planish that roof. it looks like you have a knot at the crown running from the passenger side to the driver side right where the sunroofs start to narrow, just ahead of the oilcanning. I have no idea how capable you are when it comes to metal work ive just ran across your video, i dont want to seem insulting at all. if you are having trouble getting the panel straight and taking the stretch out of the metal, i would recommend you check out Carl Fishers channel called "Make it kustom" he's got a lot of great visual explanations about straigtining metal, with a hammer and dolly and i think he's got one video about quenching with an acetaline tourch. He's been the only one on youtube ive ever ran across that ive seen explain things properly and easy, highly recommended.
This is some excellent advice. I have watched Carl on the Make it Custom channel several times. He is a true talent. I am definitely not as good as him but I'm not a novice either. I'm currently doing metal fab for a living ( for the past 8 months) and doing it everyday has helped me grow. I truly appreciate the advice and you are spot on with what was happening to the roof. I couldn't get to the back of the panel to use a hammer and dolly very well. I encourage you to watch next week's episode where I fix all this garbage. Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate it more than you know.
That repair looks great. If you're trying to fix junk you have to expect a less-then-perfect repair. That roof clearly needed to be cutoff and start with a new straight replacement. It's the reality of the situation. My younger brother had an '81 Cutlass Supreme. Was a pretty solid car. Look forward to more. Be safe and stay well.
You are correct about having to lower expectations on repairs made to cars this rusty. I've got a soft spot for any T-top car. I've had a couple Cutass over the years and loved them all. Thanks for watching Brian.
This is definitely one of the worst cars I've ever replied. It's coming along nicely but there's plenty more to fix. Thanks for watching Donald I appreciate all the support.
Awesome video brother. I would of sent that to the scrapyard as bad as that is. Keep the content coming. Hope you have an incredible night. Much love and RESPECT
If it had been mine I would have looked for a replacement. The owners have a sentimental attachment to this car. And if I've learned anything in the car business sentimental usually means expensive. Thanks for watching Tim I hope you have a great week.
