Thomas Chauke Na Shinyori Sisters are a South African music group that's been creating music for over 4 decades. The group's founder, Dr. Thomas Chauke, is a celebrated musician and composer known for his unique style of traditional Tsonga music.
He was born on the 14th of September, 1957 in Xinyori village, in the province of Limpopo, South Africa. His family was deeply rooted in traditional Tsonga music, and he began playing the guitar at the age of 8. He quickly became known in his community as a talented musician after forming a band with his friends as a teenager.
In 1980, he formed The Shinyori Sisters and the band released its debut album "Shinyori" in 1986. They quickly gained popularity, and began performing across South Africa.
In 1996, he received a Doctorate of Philosophy in Musicology by the University of Venda in South Africa in recognition of his contributions to Tsonga music and his commitment to preserving and celebrating Tsonga culture.
