Hey Michael, Lets do the math, your blog has had 98K views. Your "👍" has received 829 favorable reviews. That's less than 1%.. You were doing good until you got to the 2:40 point in the video. How are we suppose to weight the three items from our driveway like you did??? I don't think my bathroom scale is rated for more than 250 lbs.
Is there a way to use Cat Scale weights to check my truck and bumper-pull trailer individual GVWRs and axle weights versus their ratings? This would be seem simple. Since the Cat Scale provides truck GAWF and GAWR and trailer axle(s), you'd think that the trailer axle(s) weight would be the TGVW. However, some of trailer weight is transferred to the truck axles via the tongue and load-distribution hitch. Is there a way to determine the trailer GVW using only the 3 axle weights provided by a Cat Scale, or do I need an actual tongue weight, to be able to accurately asses the trailer GVW and/or in the trailer? What if I also know the front and rear axle weights of my truck, with the truck empty (except for two passengers in the truck)? The effect of the weight being transferred/shared through the load-distribution hitch is stumping me a bit, in what seems like it should be an easy assessment. :-/
@@velikijoxotnikno he’s right have you tried googling the phrase “gcwr ratings brands” or “gcwr ratings manufacturer”? They intentionally keep it hush in order to sell more half-tons
nice however there isn't anywhere close to me to run back and forth to to scale to be able to figure that out. Nice vid and thnx for the info appreciate it

So I installed the app and added all the values based on my setup: 2019 Tundra : 7200 GVWR with max cargo at 1265 and 15540 GCWR (per the user manual). The trailer Rockwood 2516s: 7772 GVWR with 1568 max cargo. All said and done the app now reads GVW 6829 for the Tundra (yellow warning) with a total GCW of 12289. That's with ZERO cargo added to either the truck or trailer. If I move the GCW slider to the max (still yellow) to 7195 that puts the GCW now at 13139 and only allows me 300lbs cargo in the truck (not even covering my wife and I) and 550 lbs cargo allowed in the trailer. And the optimum tongue weight at 816. Anything above that everything turns red. Is that accurate? Did I get too much trailer for the Tundra. Please advise!
You have it right. Most setups these days max out on payload before reaching a combined limit. As pickups add larger cabs and luxury items, the payload left over has gone down. Some loaded F150’s have less than 1000 lb payload capacity. This payload has to cover tongue weight as well as cargo.
Quick follow up on this. I used a tongue weight scale yesterday and the trailer came in at just under 800. Might as well call it 800 lbs. weighed my truck at the local Catscales and with a full tank of gas, just me and no cargo it weighed 6520. We took the trailer out yesterday loading up just some essentials for a long weekend. Not much stuff (not even any firewood). Nothing in the trailer other than our typical cooking utensils and some beverages for just the two of us. Reweighed the truck and trailer at the scales and the drive axle came in at 7820lbs, the trailer axle at 5980lbs and a gross of 13800lbs. So I’m over on my GVWR by 620lbs?
Sorry, not trying to sound stupid, but when you way you are measuring the "weight" of the vehicle and the tongue weight and the combined weight of the vehicle and trailer, how are you doing that? Where do you go to do that or how are you measuring those?
I used BetterWeigh, an onboard scale device. I first weighed the vehicle alone, and then with the trailer (combination). You can also use a scale at a landfill, or sole truck stops have a CAT scale for weighing.
I downloaded the app and it's great ... one question I input all my info for my trailer and truck, when I switch between the 5th wheel and regular trailer, marten, yellow are very different although all numbers for truck and trailer are the same. why does the trailer type drastically increase my trucks ability
For the average person, that's as smart as the Pet Rock of the 70's. Perhaps their can be a market in one of the Looney Democrate controlled state like California or something.
What's really sad is the F-150 in the video only has 200 lbs less cargo capacity than my F-250, because of the way Ford fictitiously limits F-250s to 10,000 lbs GVWR to save on insurance and registration.
Been using the app 6 months & very helpful in selecting a recent SuperDuty purchase & seeking next RV. 1. Do manufacturer’s GVWR sticker include fuel weight, if not does the application factor fuel wt.? 2. Does the app calc/include a buffer/safety factor before reaching yellow caution range? Love the app because it’s easy to use & stores the ratings on multiple (pulling) vehicles. Suggest a link or page included detailing it’s parameters. Thanks
