Good stuff David, I've been listening to the podcasts. I'm struggling to highlight coastal towns that would be ideal for family life with access to schools, potentially European schools etc.
Depends what you want. Beach and quiet area or more lively area. Give me a call some time I am happy to chat about different areas as I have traveled a lot on spain and could give you some ideas on what’s best for you.
One thing that bugged me was that whatever your circumstances you had to show 400% IPREM. Not everyone has the same needs . For example I have a property in Southern Alicante Region I have no mortgage on it all i do is pay the rates. This should be assessed differently than someone who has to rent . My wife & I would need nowhere near €30,000 to live for a year €8000-€10,000 is a more accurate estimate & most of the Spanish/Expats wouldn't be earning that in the region either . It's annoying that they obviously based their calculation on Madrid /Barcelona where obviously the cost of living is much higher. We plan on Buying a Shop Freehold for Cash there and to start a Business so it's good that we don't have to have circa €60,000 sat in an account just to prove we can survive. At least now we can buy , Move there & set up & get ready for opening after only 12 months of living in Spain. This is some nice news for a lot of people . Now lets hope they see sense & lift the 90 day restriction for the thousand upon thousands of pensioners who used to spend the winter months in Spain. They are only hurting their own economy by keeping this restriction ongoing.

Hi David My wife and myself are British citizens living in London, and at the same time we have Romanian passports. We have invested in Spain where we have few properties, one for holidays, one for our daughter and the third is rented. We intend to move in Spain and the question is, if is possible to use our Romanian citizenship (not British) to move and live in Spain?

You have a solar thermal system, not a Photovoltaic (PV) system providing your hot water (not the same thing at all). Regarding the solar panels, you should definitely get another quote from a different company and also look into government grants. Andalucia has just approved a large budget to support autoconsumption of solar power and you can get up to 40% support with financing a system. Better companies now use 400W-600W panels and affordable batteries that is not going to cost 20K to supply most of the power of the avg home. The last quote I had was around 7K for a 4kWh system with 12 panels and battery system. We calculated the ROI, it would pay itself back in approx 6yrs.
i have 3 quotes from local companies that fitted my neighbours and they were all around 20k total and said i still needed to be connected to the grid so still not worth it yet as that pays a lot of electric bills. i changed electric company now and i pay 1.50 a day for electric so solar cant compete with that unfortunately.
but i was told by 3 different companies that i need 16 panels and 1 battery for every 2 panels so its total of 20k if you can quote belter i are all ears.
1. First mistske, don't speak the language.2. Second mistake, get surrounded by guetto kind bubble and not adapt to the culture you are inmigrating. 3. Third mistake, and most important, travel with your luggage full of prejudices and misconceptions, for example feeling superior because you bought a cheap house.
wow sounds like you hate the british. not all are like that you know. you should not tar everyone with the same brush. i learned spanish employed spanish workers mixed and married a spanish girl and have mostly spanish friends. there are a few as you described but that is the samer in most countries for most nationalities. these people miss out on that countries oppertunities.
First of all just like to say that me and my wife bought a property in Spain 18 years ago with the intention of Retiring it hasn't been plain sailing as the property was bought for 188,000 € after the property crash soon after it worth a lot less! Also running a second home hasn't been easy we've struggled we've now eventually managed to create a lovely home! Mortgage lenders gardeners solicitors and builders have done well. However of no fault to me and my wife things have now changed? We can only visit for 90 days in every 180 days? And as for the Non Lucrative Visa it seems almost a mommoth task in order to get? The Swiss and Norway are not part of the European union yet they are free to enter Spain and stay as long as they like with no restrictions! I can understand countries like USA or Argentina ect: were they should only stay for 90 days in every 180 days! I really hoped that the Spanish government would have helped people like us with good intentions! I hope very soon they do the same with the UK as we've had such strong links in the past and with so many British buying properties and living in Spain! After all will they like us to just walk away......
thanks for your comment personally i think Spain will reduce the restrictions to people wanting to move to Spain if they dont want to lose this large amount on income and investment that the local businesses in Spain need so much right now.

I love listening to your podcasts, however, for this one, I felt that there wasn’t much focus on actual teaching English in the language schools. What is a typical day? Is it just mainly early evening teaching hours (16.00 - 21.00?) What is the average salary? Is it likely your contract will be renewed at the end of an academic year? Teaching as a sideline was mentioned, I’m hoping to come over and teach as a permanent job. Is this feasible? (I know I could perhaps take on a few private students to supplement my income) Would the salary suffice? What if I decided to buy a property (that’s my intention to relocate - after initially renting first) would I be able to secure a small mortgage taking into account the salary and renewable contract from the language school, because I’d obviously have to show my regular income to the bank? Is there a better chance of gaining employment in a city rather than perhaps coastal, for example? I am doing loads of research, but it would have been great to actually hear these comments concerns and queries from the teacher. Thank you anyway. I’m looking forward to your next podcast 😉
