The history lesson up-front was invaluable. Don't mess with a hungry CAT and very talented operators! Love the cheering section in the background, too. The audio, editing, appropriate music, all first class.
You might be thinking of the Headgates Dam, located 2 miles upstream. I have been working on the planning of that removal since 2009 and hope to accomplish the removal by 2026. Thanks.
Yes, it was. I think because it failed so catastrophically in 1963 that they wanted to make sure it didn't get undermined again, thus explaining the installation of the steel sheet piles serving as cut-off walls. Thanks.
Wow very cool! Loved to see those old wood cribbing timber of 1844 to use to make something? I bet that old growth wood grain would be impressive after a stain was applied?
Use to hold flood waters back now down stream floods new Brunswick will get washed out to sea manville bound brook south bound brook will be in highland Park Donaldson park Edison boat docks ramp
I really like that the photographer zooming in so close I can see every speck of rust on a piece of steel, and not worry about understanding the overall job.
Thanks!! Now this is a dam removal I can fully appreciate! Showing how these old grist mills and rivers worked together is priceless for those who want to understand the past. Understanding the past is critical to understanding today. Thanks again.
Thanks very much for your comment and appreciation; I am so pleased that my objective for making the video came through. I really appreciate such positive feedback, thank you!
@@JohnWJengo No problem, the video was very well done. I've been watching a lot of videos of low head dams being removed and the question always is why was it there to begin with, need some context and why does it need to come out. But what surprises me the most is how many of these old dams there are on rivers/streams on the East Coast. It makes perfect sense though being water was used for powering mills or factories before the steam engine became common or electricity. The East is where the industrial revolution took off so it makes sense that 1000's of these dams were built, still there but now have no purpose. I have no problem with taking them out and restore river/stream/fishery back to how it was. Some of the enviro whackos on the West Coast, well, I have some problems with.

I know it's not a big dam. But it's enough for Charleville, isn't it;) Similar size to Ohio dam removed towards end of last century. The water will transpire through the roots of Alex Halley from there to Charleville. I hope that helps:) and Charles that's how they ended up with the 'Ithaca' movie that I believe is screening in the near future on SBS (?) Alex Halley comes form Ithaca in New York. Just out of interest could any of you get to the answer the same way without cheating and looking at the broadcast schedule. That's mentalism! And then you have Albanese (.i.e., elbow easy [siblings develop cancers near elbow and introduce concept of ghost{then i get BCC on inside crux of elbow that I remove using electrodessication from manual provided by Cancer Council]). Before these events, Governor Jeanette Young attempts to discretely convey the utility of Homonym (pun) during a press conference. Then you may have experienced problems with a script error in mobile phones or perhaps there were frequent broadband disconnections that might originate at the local exchange in Inala. I'm thinking somebody has anticipated your behaviour and has cannonballed your logic. It's a type of mass psychology that relies on High Ego as priming mechanism. Do you follow what I'm trying to describe to you?
With increased population depleting ground water faster than the major drought can replenish it not to mention rivers drying up , wouldn't it be nice or I bet you wish now or very soon that you still had some water storage.
The impoundment behind this dam was never used for water storage, especially given there is an in-river reservoir 1.5 miles downstream that is used for that purpose. Removal of this dam improved the water quality downstream by eliminating de-oxygenated, algae-chocked surface waters, not only improving the habitat upstream of the former dam but providing a much cleaner flow of surface water downstream where it is used for water supply. Thanks.
Magnificent! Thanks so very much for having the "real" sounds instead of intrusive elevator music like most of the other similar videos! You folks have class! It is great to see so many areas "un-raped", if you will. We live in Idaho and our streams run clear and it is interesting to see the suspended sediment you contend with. The very best of luck to you and thanks for sharing.
Thanks very much for the feedback, I very much appreciate it. It's funny, but I had the privilege of kayaking the Middle Fork of the Salmon this past summer and I said the exact same thing to myself ("wow, this water is so clear"). Thanks again for your nice comments.
Thanks for your comment, it was rather insightful because a group called the Central Jersey Stream Team was formed shortly after I managed the first dam removal in 2011 and they are a fantastic group who perform river cleanups in the Raritan River watershed. It's amazing the amount and type of debris and garbage that they pick up. They are a truly dedicated group of folks who care about the river. Thanks.
