A channel about my passion for native fishes of Singapore and South East Asia. This include Bettas, Gouramis, Rasbora, etc.
On this channel, I will also document the generational development of the wild Betta bloodlines of my fishes.

To release this ray into the nature is not the right thing to do cause it will extinct other local species. I hope people who keep pet should be more responsible and knowledgeable. Foreign species will extinct the local species, so it is not right to release them into the nature. The same disaster happened to US when the foreign snakehead were abandoned into the nature and eaten up most of the local cichlid species. And the same thing is also happening to our local drain system when the taliapia fish (from Japan) were released and wiped out most of the fishes.

@@southeastasianaquatics230 I wished more breeders did the same, I wished they exchanged different fry spawns with other breeders to improve their genetic diversity(which you aren’t short of, judging by your superb breeding ethics), didn’t sell their pairs from same brood spawns, or breed siblings which seems to be a common malpractice in the wild betta community in Facebook groups.

They still look a lot like imbellis? Why is that? Is the domestic genes really unstable?
@southeastasianaquatics230
@southeastasianaquatics230 3 года назад
The domestic genes (of my fishes) already have much Imbellis heritage. The rest, are mostly Betta Splendens (wild type) which are already very similar to Imbellis. BTW, my opinion is that most of the so-called Imbellis on sales especially in the West are hybrids. The pure wild imbellis (from those that I have) are very dull and drab. They will only colour up briefly and their colours are never really very intense.

@southeastasianaquatics230
@southeastasianaquatics230 3 года назад
@@monicafelan531 Hello...They are my own fishes. Kept only within my tanks. My hybridisation was accidental because the fish shop mislabelled Betta Splendens as Imbellis. I doubt they were hybrids when I bought them. Hope that clears your unwarranted concern.. Now that I have pure wild imbellis, the difference between Imbellis and Splendens are so obvious in terms of behaviour and colouration, it is impossible to make that mistake anymore. Now I do not breed the hybrids anymore. I am only breeding the pure lines. The beloved hybrids will stay with me until they passed away from old age. The older generations have passed on.

@monicafelan531 3 года назад
@@southeastasianaquatics230 I really don't have a huge concern, because I maintain a few of the wild species as well and the domestic that splendons. I see a lot of videos where people turn loose domestic splendens and then go and recapture them pretending to catch these fish in the wild that's more concerning in that it's just more of a waste of time and make pollute the wild bloodlines I'm sure you're fine, the reason I asked is I bought some embellish supposedly wild type but they look to me like they have some splendens in them , not sure. If they were truly caught in the wild I wouldn't want to be buying hybrids wild hybrids.
@southeastasianaquatics230
@southeastasianaquatics230 3 года назад
@@monicafelan531 I see... sorry to hear about that. From the videos that I see on youtube, it seems most of the so-call Betta Imbellis that are sold in the West are actually hybrids... which is kind of sad. The problem is, as you have experienced, the pure bloodlines maybe very hard to find in your region/local supply. Here where I stay, wild Imbellis are natives to our regions. In fact the Wilds are much cheaper than the properly labelled 'Betta Imbellis'. They are simply label as 'Wild Betta'... with no exact identification. So I have to buy them back and observe them for a few days before proper identification can be established. The true Imbellis are pretty drab and they don't really colour up much. By outbreeding, we hope to keep the genetics strong and healthy. Hopefully, we can keep the stock pure for as long as possible😁 One observation I notice is that wild imbellis are indeed harder to keep than domestics. They do not do well with ketapang leaves.
