This song, if I'm not mistaken, seems to be sung in the same air to another GAA player, a fooballer in the case. The song "The Gallant John Joe" a tribute to the late great John Joe O' Reilly, Cavan footballer.
I saw an interview he gave years ago. The interviewer drew attention to the fact that he had eight All Ireland Winners Medals same as the great Christy Ring. John Doyle's response (which I admire greatly) was to the effect that: Ah, I won eight medals with Tipperary, but Christy Ring won eight medals, for Cork! A brilliant riposte. A man playing down his own contribution, enormous humility for a player of such talent.
I had the pleasure of seeing John Doyle in action in the Munster final 1958 v Waterford when he gave one of the finest displays of his career. One of the all time greats
Congratulations best wishes well Done our hero John Doyle . My best here as he came from The premier county Tipperary. Holy cross in Tipperary and 8 all Ireland medal winners and 11 league of our here John Doyle . Hip Hip Horray up Tipperary our hero John Doyle . Blue and gold flags flying high

at least they are still ub40 less ali and they too will benifit from new material in time im not saying either they or ali dont do any old stuff just a bit more new less old, and oldgalsal stated something why doesnt he advertise dep band on his posters ??
NOT UB40!!! Ali Campbell and DEP Band, went to see him last night and i went to see ali with his new band dep but in fact it turned out to be him doing cover versions of mostly UB40 hits which i think isnt what anyone who went there to see he has enough new and good songs with dep to have put on a good show 1 or 2 oldies would have been enough, and what was with all the walking off stage, wont be too quick to see again and the UBs were brilliant in the o2 my opinion
