Hello Captain, first of all i love your videos, always clear and helpful. I have a question, i have been watching your channel for the last 5 or 6 weeks and have been curious as to the procedure for changing from towing with a long wire whilst out at sea to pushing when preparing to dock the barge. Do you have any specific video's that show this procedure? I have earmarked a few older ones to watch but you might be able to speed up the process a bit. I have a limited amount of maritime experience having been captain of a dive boat in the Med (Malta) for 10 years or so. Small 27 foot twin engines, fibreglass hull. Now retired but still very much interested in all things maritime, big or small anywhere in the world.
When you go to sea, and tell about it, suddenly there are experts everywhere. My son is a merchant mariner, and does the same routine you do. He says he has talked to you occasionally, and operates the Paulsboro to Del City run. So, I have watched him di that run for a couple years, and is on his way there, now, I believe. I watch and listen and learn. Great posts, Tim. Keep on keeping on. I did my share, in the Navy, and we have our own sail boat.
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel John. Oh yes. I spent a lot of time fishing with Lexi out at Cashes ledge. I believe a big part of who I am and how I manage my crew comes from Lexi. CUOTO
Hi Tim, I’m enjoying you videos very much. For some reason I seem to have a fascination for tug boats and how they handle the many and varied manoeuvres. I love your careful management and descriptions during these difficult operations, you make it look so easy. Of course there will be ‘clever’ people telling you what to do and there are plenty submerged and damaged boats to prove it. Best wishes from UK and thank you for your awesome skill. Kenneth
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel. There have been many times when a second or even third try is in order. I have even gone to the wrong dock before. 😂 CUOTO
When I was growing up in central Illinois, the woman who lived across the street from us cooked on a tow boat on the Illinois and Mississippi rivers. She spent a month on the boat, then was off for a month.
Yes, don't worry about the adverse comments, just keep on doing it the way you are Tim. I have a question though, do you have a rudder behind each propeller? I presume its not one rudder in the centre?
Know what you mean by "the armchair admirals". Even before the Dali stopped moving, someone was already calling for jail time and lifetime license suspension for the master. Personally, I took a three day peek to watch the original salvage effort. One view of the explosion effort and one view for the initial tow. What more to see? Chief Mokoi's two videos were enough for me. Extreme patience Tim. Had a similar experience without a barge..Had a MX pilot aboard. Couldn't get close to the dock to let off. Tide and prop wash against dock bulwark kept pushing me off.
Interesting.....My tugboat wheelhouse career was on a rope hawser in the North East. Later the rope hawser tugs went to cable boats. My last two years were driving a pin boat for Morty. I must say the easiest tugboat job that i had was on a pin boat.
Right! Thank you very much for watching and welcome to the channel Frederick. I bet everything was easy on that pin boat except getting a relief. (Curse of Morty) CUOTO
Hey Tim how is everything going hope everyone is well I’m playing catchup again with the videos been busy but I’ll always find time to watch my favorite Utube Channel Yes There are a lot of COUCH CAPTAINS out there Tim don’t pay no mind to them Like you said if it was easy everyone would be a Captain it takes many years to get to that position talk soon COUTO
Thank you very much for watching Eddie. And a big thank you for your SVP gifts! They are both on and being used and appreciated onboard SV Paquita! CUOTO
When I graduated from my 21' bow rider, to my 26' (was 29' LOA) single engine cabin cruiser, to my 43' (47' LOA)w/ twins, I remember the feeling of everything happening so much more slowly, but it was so great to have the ability to maneuver with the twins (especially backing down). This is my 'big boat' x 10000! 😅
Thank you for watching. Many skills transfer from one boat to another. They just have to be adjusted a bit. But your mastery of the wind and tide will pay you more dividends than adding HP. CUOTO
Fascinating Tim. Watching and learning from your expertise. Awesome vlog as always. Do you choose or is the 'ship' and destination assigned to you? Many thanks for sharing. Blessings Sherry. 🥰🙏💞⚓
Tim B, what you need to do is come in at 7 kts. and then immediately twist it three times. I’ve watched enough RU-vid to give you the best advice. 😂😂😂 CUOTO
Luke -- Hat's off to your what all might have gone through your mind and heart from the second she first went dark. "Warning" (I do NOT have a victim mentality at all but "what happened to me"): That is ptsd-inducing sh!t that is worthwhile of tearing into and through the strongest of men (and those moments DO stack-up in life and no shame if/when it becomes a mind-phock); it is NOT a "I wasn't in combat" deal. I *PRAY* that I am off-base on this
