I have since new, a 1968 AMX 343, with auto, "the under dog" And beat a 1970 AMX 390 with go pac, 4 speed. My 343 had the 1970 type 2 AMC cam that had more lift and duration, R4B intake, larger 625 cfm Carter carb, 3.73 rear gears, Cyclone headers with 2 1/2 in. full exhaust. The AMC 343 engine was the equivalent to Chrysler's 340 engine, only it had to be built as such. I will honestly say, no stock 340 or 383 Dart, could beat my 343 AMX. The AMC 343 engine was a much better engine than the Smogged out AMC 360 engine.
My '69 is Beale St. blue. I see the Air Guard hardware had been removed. It's gone on mine as well - mine has a 4-speed, too. I managed to score an original set of Rally-pac gauges and put them in.
OMG these cars are beautiful! The 57 is a work of art, very nice! The Challenger is very nice as well. But my favorite is the AMX. I had two when I was younger, and I enjoyed them very much but now in my later years a 1969 AMX is the holy grail!
Had a 1969 390 amx in the 70s changed the axles to 1 piece axle put headers small cam anti pump up lifters aluminum intake holley 750 dp recurve dist it ran high 12s with slicks also 4.10 rear went from 14.30s to 12s she loved the upgrades made a lot of $$ street racing
That's a beautiful car! I have a '69 AMX - Beale St. Blue with white go-pack stripes, charcoal interior, 390 with Flowmaster mufflers, 4-speed, go-pack, 3.54 twin-grip rear axle. Managed to snag a set of original Rally-pac gauges and put them in, found a rebuilt factory Hurst shifter and swapped it out. Even put in a rebuilt clock w/quartz movement; it's bang-on.
