Hi ! My name is Thomas Crémier. I began to play drums at the age of 9. Self-educated, I am mostly playing extreme metal in several bands. This is my official RU-vid channel. You will find drum playthroughs, drum covers, live performances, personal projects and the productions I do with my studio.
Hope you will enjoy it ! Do not hesitate to subscribe and ask about anything !
I just got this kit in the same finish and I am utterly blown away by how spectacular these drums sound. Rich, deep, authoritative, powerful but controlled. The kick is incredible, the floor tom like thunder. Thanks for the information Thomas - I learned some things today. I thought the air holes were made of rusty metal, not wood!!
Hell yeaaaaaaaaah !! Congrats 🙏🏻 It is really the most beauyoful natural wood finish I have encountered 🖤 Which configuration do you have ? The sound is SO perfect ! I installed Evans EC2S on batter side and EC Reso on reso side for toms, the power and deepness they have… Even the 8" tom has great bottom end ! Happy you learned some détails 😇 Those Star Drums have some incredible details on their construction and respect of the sound and sustain ! We both have the greatest drum kit 😉 Do not hesitate to send me a picture of your kit on messenger or Instagram ! Cheers from France !
not much difference in low tuning which Im mostly interested in. great comparison thank you, very informative and top notch quality. Going to stick with G2 or UV2
Love your tom tones. Do you use any tuning tools to know what range or notes you tuned to? The shells have plenty of tone and wonderful full body and attack.
Thank you very much !! I am glad that you commented this video as I haven’t watched it for years ! When I received this set back in 2014, I tuned it by ear, I never used any tension watch or tuner for drums. I released videos explaining how I tune my kick, toms and snare 😉 And the only time I used a tension watch is not later than a few months back when I shot my Evans drumheads comparison, I had to have the exact same tension on all the 13 heads I tried on low, mid, high and ultra high tunings 😉
Yeah !! That was the time back in 2004 when I saw the video of Space Time and instantly said to me I have to do it myself. The part where the drums is playing blast beats and they comes the guitar melody with double bass…. Still gives my chills !! That was my first tattoo, as Gojira is the reason why I wanted to start drumming !
For me the 2007 was most appealing. Clearly the pitch has gone lower the newer it gets - coincidence that the guitar tunings have gone lower at the same time, nowadays an 8-string guitar with F# being lowest is a common thing? Thank you Thomas for such a thorough video for a niche subject. Awesome vid and drumming!!
My pleasure! Thank you for watching! Exactly, the pitch has gone lower and lower, and it might be a coincidence to have a better sound coherence with the tuning used nowadays. My baritone guitar is tuned to drop E, so one octave down the standard E and I love the sound of my Z3 with it! It gives a lot of contrast. My favourite one is the Z3, then the 2024 Z Custom. They both have the greatest explosiveness with brightness and harmonics. If you like niche and really detailed comparison like this one, I released an Evans Drumheads video comparing 13 snare heads, all the double ply plus two Hybrid 😉 And next will be Puresound snare wires! Cheers from France!
Hello Thomas, I am working on a guitar track for this, and I may get my son to run a bass line too. Maybe for the first time I will try vocals too. I will let you know when it's done.
Man i like it a lot, it gives me really emotional vibes with that power behind them, and the blend of gojira and black metal riffs OMG i love it , u got yourself a new listener <3 love from Macedonia
Oh man, it really does mean a lot to read this! This album is really important to me as it helped me to deal with bad events in my life previously, and even if it has some errors, I am proud of it! And the fact you felt emotions listening to it means that it worked 🙏🏻 I am working on new songs for a next album, which will be a blend of Gojira, Humanity’s Last Breath, Vildhjarta and still black metal vibes! Thank you for listening! ♥️
It is taken from my first album "Fallen Lives" of my solo project Avalanche : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JpKFAg-M4L4.html It was released back in 2017 so please forget the poor audio production quality, but at that time, the meaning of these songs was the most important ! If you listen to it, tell me what you think and your favourite track 😉 Cheers!
Thank you so very much !!! I am really happy of how that one turned out, the best drum sound I have ever mixed for sure 🔥 It is a project of mine, but never really make it happened ! I hope I’ll find the right moment to do it, and create a good enough virtual instrument ! But if you need mixing, mastering or any other audio work, do not hesitate 😉
@@ThomasCremier you should totally do It man. It would be really great. I’m particularly interested in some one shots from this specific mix. Is that something you’d be able to do for the right price?
@@devendasmusic Thank you for motivating me! Might be sooner than expected then, let's see! It can be done for sure! Send me an email to thomas@soundblast-studios.com or directly on Instagram / Messenger on my personal accounts, and we will talk about what you want 😉 This week I am in holidays, but we can definitely talk about that! Cheers from France!
C'est vrai qu'elle sonne super bien ! N'hésite pas à participer au Giveaway sur mon Instagram \m/ Tu auras toutes les infos dans ma Story à la une "Evans Giveaway" 😉
Probably a common question, but not going through 4,000+ comments as you have over the years - How DO you find the time? Well, about the triggering - is it merely for sound quality and evenness of the hits pertaining to sound or are there any additional hits supplied by the trigger? No wrong answer, as you had said 'There are no stupid questions' elsewhere. Great words to live by! My own comment is 'It never hurts to ask, but you might not like the answer'. Great vid, hence it being an icon on my desktop. Thanks! I consider myself to be very fast, butt to add this technique, finally??? Step back, folks! 🤩🤗
Hi there ! Thanks for watching and your comment! First, I took the time needed as I played for years minimum three times a week, I always had a band I played with minimum once a week from 2010 to 2018 approximately (and it really helps progressing)! About triggering, it helps first to a-have a consistent sound. It is not the acoustic sound which is recorded, but the combo triggers with a drum module allows you to choose a sample and this one will be triggered each time the trigger is hit. I made a video explaining what triggers are : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-U-u9CQ2qiQs.html It absolutely doesn't add any hit. All the hits played are listened more precisely, so technically speaking, it is more difficult to play with triggers because you hear all the errors you play ! So you need to be more precise compared to playing without 😉 And exactly, there is no dumb questions, so do not hesitate if you still have something to ask! Cheers from France!

Yes I am ! 😉 It was a lot of work, of time, perseverance, and commitment ! But here is a video to explain and earn time 😉 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HuWI3aJzqAU.htmlsi=oglZazPi6YU5oV29 Thank you so much and cheers from France 🙏🏻
It is a giveaway made with Evans Drumheads France so the giveaway is originally made for my French followers, but if someone wants to participate from another country, he will be able to win heads, but he will have to cover the shipping cost. That was unfortunately the « least worst » solution to let everyone following me to be able to participate ! I hope you would understand that choice I made 😊 And thank you for following me from as far away !
Nice cover man! Amazing job! Wanted to ask you about your foot technique in fast double bass part you're playing 8 notes with your left foot using heal toe and just a quarters in your right foot? looks a bit strange for me, hope you can explain it
Hi there! Thank you!! I am doing RRLLRRLL 😉 And I did a video explaining everything to know about it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HuWI3aJzqAU.htmlsi=jPzeeJL1R-twJj_f I hope it will help you understand what is going on and letting you learn it so that you could play with this technique! Cheers from France!
@@ThomasCremier Really just a regular heal toe, your right foot movements confused me… I’m also playing same technique, but both of my legs move like yours left. Thank you for your respond Cheers from Uzbekistan!
@@SaintDoppelganger Exactly! My right foot has a more "flexible" and more detailed movement when playing slower tempos as this song! If I am playing 250+ bpm, my both feet has the same motion!
This is the best Evans two-ply snare comparison video out there now. Might be the only one actually lol. So this helped me narrow down some choices for sure. Torn between the ST Dry, Heavyweight Dry, and the UV2. I would love to get the Hybrid head but I’ve heard that it’s only safe for metal hoops. I have a Superstar Classic 14x6.5 with die cast hoops. Sounds pretty good right now with EC Reverse dot but it’s a little bit too “gushy” at the moment. Not enough attack and a little box sounding even with higher tuning. Need something else for my prog rock band.
Thank you so very much for your feedback! 🖤 I searched while I was preparing and writing this video, and I found some good videos having more heads but not all two-ply, there was a blend of two and single ply heads, and sometimes with different brands. So yeah, this comparison is (for now) the only full two ply range of Evans Drumheads! I really like the ST Dry, but it isn’t durable enough for my playing unfortunately! The Heavyweight Dry is a BEAST. But I feel it needs to be tightened a lot to really shine, in this video, I think the Heavyweight Dry could be tightened a bit more 😉 I have it installed on another snare of mine, and it sounds massive! The UV2 is really the most polyvalent one, it has a wide frequency range and with all the accessories with have in our disposal (Snareweight Dampers and all others models), we can really sculpt the sound we want! And its durability is mad! About the Hybrid, I have a Tama Starclassic Bubinga 14"x8" with Die-Cast Hoops, for about ten years. Seven out of the ten, a Hybrid was installed (and still is), pretty much cranked, and I never had any issue 😉 I know what you mean about the EC, this what I do not like about it. It is good to have an low and fat sound, but even cranked it doesn’t get the attack I am looking for. Not enough precision! The Heavyweight is its big brother and it definitely can have a big low end punch while allowing a great transient attack! But none of the ones above and the 13 heads of this comparison is a bad choice. It is all about the sound YOU are looking for, your preferences and the durability you want! 🙏🏻 Tell me which one you installed on your snare when you made your choice! Cheers from France!
@@ThomasCremier Thanks for more info and I appreciate your opinions! I’m gonna the Hybrid out first and see if it does any damage to the hoop, if not I’ll keep it. If I see anything I’ll get a Heavyweight Dry for sure. Kinda curious about the Onyx head too, seems like it’d be cool to switch up.
My pleasure! You won’t have any problem with a Die-Cast Hoop, do not be afraid 😉 These hoops are robust and way more durable compared to triple flanged hoop! And the ease of tuning is better! From what I heard during the sound tests, the Onyx has a resonant I do not like, as if the air was still in the shell and without letting it « breathe ». I don’t know if you can hear what I try to describe ahaha But it surely is the most beautiful one 👀
Merci beaucoup !!
I like the hybrid because I already been down this road of searching and experimenting. It gets a bit expensive but once you find what works for your drum, it’s easy. But all drums are not the same. A single ply head is better to work with because you can dampen it as needed.
I really love the Hybrid for years, and this new Black model has a wider range in its tone, which makes it even better! Testing a lot of heads gets expensive, that's why I wanted to share this experiment so that anyone can listen to the differences on the same shell, the same hitting manner, the same recording, the same tensions etc… But yeah, it won't sound exactly the same on all the snare drums! But anyone can discover the differences in this way. I cannot work with single ply head as they are too fragile… they wouldn't last months with my drumming habits unfortunately, even if they offre a more polyvalent tone. And with my tastes, I dampen my double pli heads too 😛
Thank you, so very very much! It means everything to read this comment as it takes a looooog time to do the research, writing, recording, shooting, editing, etc… But with my cameraman, we love pushing our production to higher levels! If you want to see an in-depth comparison of all the Evans double ply snare drum heads… we just released it yesterday 😉 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ds762DYGIEM.html I hope you'll enjoy this very nerdy video! Cheers from France!
Thank you for your kind words ! My cameraman and I always want to push forward our production quality, and this one is really a new milestone! I hope you still like it as much after more than 50min of video ^^ What is your favourite head and tuning ? 😉 Cheers from France!
Just some kindness is too much to ask for? Drumming comes later one, first sound research. But if you do not like this nerdy content, no one is forcing you to watch. You can come back later when a video is interesting you. You won’t be wasting your time
Thank you also for watching it as it is a loooong video, the longest I have ever released ! The HD Dry is clearly sounding really good \m/ Good choice 😉 Which tuning do you prefer ? Cheers from France!
@@ThomasCremier Yea, I can imagine how much time you've put into this. Very much appreciated. The Tama drum set and Evans are a great combo. I prefer the higher tunings, especially on my snare, but I also do tune my toms little higher than most to get nice resonance out of them. Many people's toms sound pretty dead and non musical to me. I've used Evans for 20 years but switched to Remo Emperor (batter) and Ambassador (resonant) heads on my Ludwig Keystone X (Maple/Oak kit) and I use a Remo Emperor X on my snare. I'm not opposed to going back to Evans tho, and Aquarian also make some great drum heads.
@@MarkMonolithOfficial I also prefer high tuning for snare, but my toms are tuned pretty low as I love the contrast between snare and toms! I used a loooong time ago Aquarian heads on my old pearl JJ snare, it was very powerful in my memories. That's what is great about drums and music and art in general, there is a wide variety of brands and models to choose from, so everyone can find their preferences!
I am glad you find it interesting ! It surely is a modern technique as modern metal evolved with faster tempos and drummers needed to find ways to play faster with more stamina ! 😊 Hope it helps! Cheers from France
Woaw I would have loved to have it in this comparison! I didn’t get the chance to know someone having it in France! And I agree, sticks are part of the sound too. Mine are the Vic Firth Metal N, thick and longer with nylon tip so it has a brightest attack 😊
