Someone made a film that Marilyn was the mother of General F. Supposedly, Marilyn had a certain genetic condition and could not have children of her own, especially at that time. "Team XXX One in 1,000 women has an extra X chromosome, or trisomy 23. This syndrome is called superwoman or superwoman syndrome. Women with XXX syndrome are characterized by taller than average height and more pronounced feminine features such as larger breasts, wider hips and thicker pubic hair...."
My brother was there that night after having a supper with them. My brother loved him and being in church with him. He is still missed to this day. He passed in Newport Ky on Grand Ave. He passed just the way he wanted to go singing and praising the Lord
in 1973, you wouldn't have been walking around there at all. It was all company property, & they'd have had you arrested for trespassing. In the earlier 2000s, that coal tipple at Brookside was used to load coal from other mines. I saw it still operating, & there were guards around it. The office building & store was also closed up & intact. The Post Office was still open (it was for Ages as well). That was 2006. I went all over Harlan County from 2001-2006 seeing the coal stuff. I met Lawrence Jones' family. His mother was still alive. I saw where he was shot. The Highsplint mines had a museum there (they still might) that had stuff from the strike era, like Basil Collins' foreman certificates. I talked to a lot of people involved in the strike. Junior Deaton was a great source of info before he passed. I met Lois Scott too.
Basil Collins was mine foreman at the Highsplint Mines, the other mine that went on strike. Both mines were owned by Eastover. Brookside got their union contract, Highsplint did not. The miners from Highsplint who went on strike were all fired when the strikes ended. Basil was hated by the striking miners because he was very anti-union, & he led the scab workers into the Highsplint mines. To friends & family he was very liked & loved, & considered a very loyal friend.
I've been there, but didn't go in the building. Isn't there a family who bought the old school there & moved into it? I seem to remember that. The Clover Fork Coal Co at Kitts, outside Harlan, has really impressive buildings that have been maintained. I toured all that back around 2005. There was an older guy who was a descendant of the owners, who always hung out in the main company office building. He showed me around.
I saw a fly bat hangin in the lobby too. I remember we was coming thru from visiting family in Evarts and had to stop there because something happened to my Dad's car that he couldn't fix himself. Thanks for the wonderful videos.
I just love Y'alls videos, awesome content ! Iike to see the way Eastern Kentucky was, I'm from Johnson County and when I hear Y'alls accent...Lord I just get so homesick ! I only get to go home twice a year Easter and Thanksgiving ! Got married and moved to middle Tennessee been here almost 40 years but, I still call Johnson county home and a lot of things have changed in and around Paintsville during those years...lost several family members ! I listen to Y'all talk and it reminds me of sitting on the front porch with my Grandparents !! Well hey Y'all please keep making your videos about Eastern Kentucky places and coal mines !! Y'all have a good day and God bless !!!
You’d think someone with a little more public speaking experience would have done this. Some of the words used aren’t even in a dictionary. At least the way they are saying it isn’t!
I remember it well. That ramp is steeper than it looks. I have been in there several times. He would often have a part or bolt that you couldn't find anywhere else. He was also really good running that old lathe too. You asked about the tire store. Yes, it was Harlan retread/General tire. Arguably the absolute worst retreaded tires in the whole world. Dad got a set and a big knot came out on the side of one of them and they wouldn't even replace it.
