He really is a top man: the musicians love him and they easily learn from him. Yet....... he comes from the old old days when a conductor was usually a cross between a dictator and an awful tyrant... he ought to be like this! but he is not. At 94 he is thoroughly modern!!
@@andreaguarino8207 Oh yes.. players adore him, in every country. He does not behave as a tyrant, and yet he came from a generation where it was normal to be a conductor and a tyrant.
Fantastic! Maestro Chang has the only “Carnival”:recording on You Tube with a steady, reliable and correct rhythm. Dvorak’s meter and rhythm are more important than any other composer’s save perhaps Stravinsky, and all other conductors except perhaps George Szell do not respect this. The tender intermezzo is beautiful here as well; sweet but not sentimental. When I was a kid, my notion of happiness was dictated by the languid, heartbreaking lullaby that truly has the world turning slower by 5:55, with its adorable flute kisses, cheek to cheek harp chords and tambourine farewell.
