If players who have registered to Beat the Pro are in the livestream, I have to give them a reasonable amount of time to get to the table. During the Charleston, focus on hand development and pass as defensively as possible with unneeded tiles. If you don't need tiles you received in a pass, pass them on but check to see if you can make changes to mitigate the risk.
American mah jongg is a game of multiples - every hand on the card requires them. I play and teach to target multiples and keep tiles that can be used with them. In the case of Pull 1, the multiples are 3 dot and white dragons, so I let the 789 tiles go. Also, consecutive run hands in the Winds and Dragons category use Winds, and in Pull 1, there were no winds.
That was so exciting! I have to turn the speed down to follow the game. Being a beginner I always gravitate towards runs and I love that you do the opposite to like numbers. Maybe someday with your help I’ll be able to get a mah jongg against the women I play with that have been playing over 40 years! Thank you for all your explanations. This was so fun❣️
In this video, you mention "not passing like numbers or pairs". Aren't they the same thing? Or do you mean, for example, "like numbers" would be 3 or 4 of a kind as opposed to a pair of something? (I'm relatively new player and am trying to learn and improve my knowledge!) Thanks!
Hi. Thanks for the video. I'm considering buying my very first physical mahjong set. I'd most likely be playing solo. Is it worth buying a real set to do this?
If a player declares mahjong and does not meet the minimum requirement, the win is not honored and they stop playing. The game continues with the other three players.
I am a new player. I have a 2024 card so I am unable to follow because you're using a much older card. If I subscribe or join will I get more current instructions?

At 52.47, Joe Curtis was ready to win with a 6 Bam. You said he didn’t have a hand. Four flowers, four 4 Dots, four 6 Bam, and 2 & 4 Craks is the evens multiplication hand on the left.
@@maryannh3317 All mahjong sets come with Flower tiles. There are two sets of Flowers, Seasons (1 SUM, 2 SPR, 3 AUT, 4 WIN) and Flowers (1 PLUMB, 2 ORCHID, 3 CHRYS, 4 BAMBOO). For Asian styles, the Flowers are bonus tiles and are not part of the 14-tile hand. If a player has a Flower and it is the same number as their seat for any given hand (1 EAST, 2 SOUTH, 3 WEST, 4 NORTH), they will get additional points if they win. For American mah jongg, the Seasons and Flowers together are called "Flowers". The numbers and letters on the Flowers do not matter. If a hand calls for a Flower, indicated by an F, any Flower tile will do. Many times, sets will come with extra Flowers, Jokers, and blank tiles. 38:45 There was potential for Quint #4 using the pung of green dragons, but it was a long shot because I had only one flower, one joker, and little multiples with number tiles. So, I gave up the pung of green dragons because I was focused on a hand with no gaps and two pair, Consective Run #3-1.
Interesting, but not really helpful yet. More aspirational. I'm at the beginner stage where I am desperately trying to figure out my own hand much less anyone else's. .
