Movie reviews by David Stratton, Trailers, Live recordings of film Q&A and panel discussions relating to the films of Luna Palace Cinemas in Perth Western Australia
It’s getting a belated showing at my local cinema in Sussex this week and I’m just back from it. I really enjoyed it. The makers really understood Simenon’s work and Depardieu was great. My only quibble was there were too many closeups and the camera was shaking all over the place at times, especially in the first 15 minutes. But overall a solid, very entertaining film.
"The Quiet Girl" is a beautiful film. It should always be playing on a cinema screen somewhere in every major city and town. A real tonic for the soul.
No one would ever come close to Jean. She was a sensation. I have been wearing my iconic pixie cut for years in honour of this brilliant gorgeous lady. I put her in the some place I put Marilyn. Right on the top shelf. Rest In Peace my Honeys. ❤️🤍💙
looking forward to seeing some more trash... but PLEASE don't give us a long list of things to do at the start of the movie! we're cool, we'll get into the spirit... have some trust! from someone's who's been coming to Luna since 1994
I'm in New Jersey (US&A) ... I have a cousin who lives in Australia ... I saw this and became worried for her. :) Not that the US&A doesn't have it's problems ...
"Strangely Enthralling" is a very apt description of this film. But if you are used to the Directors oeuvre (Rubber, Wrong, Wrong Cops) then is kind of par for the course for his films.
I love Shakespeare reimagined and looking at old characters through a feminist lens, so I had great expressions .... but this movie sucked! Ridiculous plot twists and two dimensional characters bounce through a preposterous YA world without depth. I sensed that this was "reimagined" by a committee. Pathetic
I watched it last night, it reminded me of Locke, really well conceived film, gripping, dives into the cop's character by observing his choice of actions throughout movie, really good viewing
