Never understood why people rave about furled leaders......they are poor at casting in wind. They are much shorter than a tapered nylon leader. Opaque and this more likely to spook fish......give me a decent tapered nylon leader, anyday!
I've recently started handline fishing and was looking for something to act as a shockline. I was buying some 5' braided leaders (for a couple of bucks each), but now I know how to make nearly the same thing for pennies. Thanks!!
I recently learned this type of simple furled/ twisted leader and I love it...it works so good I'm never spending $11.99 on a store bought furled leader...however when I'm ready I might try making a jig and making my first true furled leader.
You did a fantastic job on that video. Plain and simply put, it's the best intro online to furled leaders. I normally use 4 pound test line/tippit ....it's a little more complicated for me, based on my age and abilities, but I want to thank you for taking the time to share......I'll try.
You can taper it further if you want. You would just have to start with a much longer piece initially. and you just keep doubling it back on its self like he did in step two. But if you're going to do that its best to start with really thin line like 6 or 7 x you can step down as many times as you want it just depends on how patient you are and what your application is.
Correct the 2 strand has a loop and the 4 strand is two doubled over to make a loop and you get two loops with a double surgeon's not where you chose to double the double.
