Meet Jon(Joc) and John. Two like minded guys who love their boats and being on the water. Watch as they get themselves into mischief and attempt to keep their boats afloat. Joc lives on the water so has an intimate awareness and association with Sydney Harbour. John is a sponge for knowledge and experience, always willing to take on a project.
Their fleet consists of Silverwake, a Hunter Legend 40.5, his tender, Onion, an inflatable with 15 hp 2 stroke. John has the faithful and timeless Redback, first tinny ever built in Australia out of wartime spam cans and the beautiful Dee Too, his 26ft plywood cabin cruiser. Already transformed from the derelict mooring minder it was . Wti
Nice video good "walkthrough" of the river, its one of my fishing rivers, produces some good quality fish, just need to check depths on charts before you go to far upstream
Nice. My respect to you and also Tom. Are there many working sailing boats in Sydney or at least those that once were? Polish your bright work on the opening and you're going to have a hit. Nick
Thats my style. If i was rich id have that boat and tow around a 'Luxury Barge' id name the barge Large Marge, and she'd be well equipped for a first class party.
G'day guys , Cool vid , Nice old boat , Would have liked a better look at the engine / electrical systems. But was a treat to look round a great old tug. Respect....!
Just a 8V 71 GM /Detroit earlier a 6 in line 110 GM also the "salvage pump and large fuel tanks removed (rusted) all electrical systems replaced sine conversion to recreation vessel.
! I worked as Master in Sydport for 2 years full time the sporadically from 1978. I have LOGBOOKS the engine and engine room are vastly different from when I worked her as MASTER/engineer. but good to see someone cares originally had a 6- 110 GM a salvage pump athwartships forward of the engine and 3 BIG fuel tanks each side
I would have loved to use a better pressure washer , mine is only 1900 psi. Originally this was just going to be a quick paint job and I thought I would find 1 or 2 pin holes. The more I looked into it the more holes I found. I actually contemplated scrapping the boat and getting a new one, but it has too much sentimental value so I just used what I had.
The way your anchor is rigged, if it snags a solid enough object, you will lose it. The chain connected to the current spot just pulls it into snags harder. You solid attach it at the oppsite end so it pulls out backwards. Then run the chain along its current attachment point and use wire or zip ties. The idea is the zip tie or wire is strong enough for every day anchoring. If the anchor gets snagged you can drive the boat and snap the wire/ zip tie and it will release and pull it out backwards.
Thanks, really appreciate the feedback. I’m pleased with the result., I was assured that it won’t get shredded by claws like the EVA foam. Hunter, the cat isn’t due back for a couple of weeks so I won’t know until he spends some time aboard
Yeh mate I’d be very happy with that speed! Hope you used a king life antifoul then you can just have a diver clean it in about 10mths and you may get 3years out of it. When you lift again and because I’m fussy and you talk about maintenance have the hull machine polished and redo the black stripe. I taped , sanded and repainted my mates black stripe on his 44footer and it looks great. Maintenance maintenance and the resale value will stay high!!! You can polish topside yourself and buy some chrome cleaner to clean railings of tea leaves and bring back the shine. Well done your boat screams!! 👍👍
Thanks mate. I cant believe how good she is running. The guys at the marina said the antifoul should definitely last 2 years on the hull. The leg can be hit and miss... the leg may need to be done in 12 months. I would have loved to get a machine polish done but they squeezed me in and i was lucky to get it done when i did. I will definitely get it done next time, but for now, i will be focusing on cleaning up the topsides.
