Subscribe if you can, and stay tuned! We’re always up to something fun!! :) Cheers, see you down the line!
Good to hear from you guys. Let me know when Colt is planning to go back down I have some paperwork (dwgs) for the Challenger that you should have. Dick B. USA
Hey Mr Boucher, so good to hear from you as well, hope you and Mrs B had a great summer!! Also thanks very much for hanging onto that Challenger paperwork for me!!! Not sure when Colt will be down next but I’ll send you an email this week with some pictures and updates, hoping he can sneak down this winter sometime. Hope to see you guys soon, let me know if you’re in the area to see family, would love to have you guys visit too!!! 🔥🔥
Hey Logan! Thanks very much brother, hope you and the fam are doing well!! Was disappointed I couldn’t squeeze a SCRR trip in this year, but maybe next. Miss running with the gang up there and hope to see you all soon!! 🔥
You are so right, Jimmy: outdoor work (like building a railroad grade by hand!) is very therapeutic. And nothing beats working outside in the fall. Nice to see Dulce on home rails, simmering away outside of her temporary home. My final "big" project on the Rocky Ridge & Broad Top is to build a little permanent car barn of some sort. Keep up the great work! Looking forward to the next video - they always make my day.
Thanks so much, Dave!! Really appreciate the kind words, it’s been a pleasure to share the process, and to finally get some of this footage posted! A friend said it best when he said, “sometimes, the right locomotive comes at the wrong time, and you just have to deal with it.” 🤣 I’ll be excited to begin designing a permanent engine house and unloading facilities in the coming months as well. The Cut is now finished, ready for dual-gauge into the barn once I get some more panels built… Hopefully it won’t be too long until I can invite you guys down for a run!! Thanks again & All the best 🔥
This has been a dream for me scince i was a very little kid im 13 now and i want to build one youve been very inspiring to me to kick my dreams into high gear. I apoligize for the passing of your father.
@@GraysonForney Thanks for the kind words brother, if I can do it, so can you!! My best advice is join your local club, meet owners/maintainers/builders in your area who are willing to share knowledge. There’s loads more information available on RU-vid nowadays, but nothing beats working with this stuff in person to figure out what kinds of equipment you like, and where you want to spend time in the hobby. Best of luck on your journey & thanks for following along. Live Steam is the coolest and don’t let anybody tell you otherwise!!! 🔥🔥
Haha thanks very much, but to be honest the expensive parts aren’t the railroad!! Just the land and the larger equipment… anybody can build a railroad, I think everybody should!! 😂🙌🏻 I always recommend folks start with 3.5”-4.75” gauges first like I did 20 years ago… tight turn radii, can get into an operable locomotive for less than Gauge 1, and can always find rail cheap if you watch and wait. I definitely don’t want to perpetuate the “huge barrier to entry” myth with the hobby, it’s only huge if you start at the top of the mountain!! I started with my life savings of about $400 and got my NKP 311 as a box of parts. I was 10 years old with no car or job, I so promise you can do even better!!! Join a local club and meet some of the guys, they’re packed with knowledge and usually at least one looking for a good home for their beloved loco. 🔥 All the best and really appreciate you following along!!!
Nice work! We are going to be neighbors in the near future. I am in the process of moving to 46 acres in north Mississippi. I will be starting a RU-vid channel by the name of my future railroad, the Ripley & Great Southern. I’m glad that you are putting down some 7.5” track. I’m planning on getting some down by the end of February. Life is a wonderful gift from God. I’m glad that you are enjoying it with trains!
Thanks very much for this comment, and congratulations on the beginning of your new railroad!!! 🔥 Sounds like you’ve got a great spot as well, spending time on this land playing with steam has truly been such a blessing. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you ever need an extra set of hands or machine, us “backyard” folks have to stick together haha!! Cheers, all the best and I’m excited to follow along with your R&GS!! 🙌🏻 God bless
Thanks so much, Matthew!!! Hope you’re well brother! Look forward to sharing a bunch more footage of Dulce under steam this year for sure. If there wasn’t such a big pond between us I’d sure love to get the gals back together haha, but man you’re always welcome to come meet Dulce if you’re ever in the states!!! 🔥 All the best & keep in touch for sure!!
Great to see this beautiful Loco went to a good home! I aaallllmoost pulled on it when she was on DLS…, But one 3” Loco is enough for me, and I like giving my lil engine 110%… It pays off as you know. Great video, and I look forward to running together one day! 3” family 😊🚂🚂
Great video 👌 I live off of “tomorrow is NEVER promised”.. “But wait until you “retire”… NOPE!!” DO it NOW! I look forward to getting our 3” Scale Locomotives together one day ;) 🚂 -Keep Steaming
Love this- you’re absolutely right!! Nothing is guaranteed; to get ahead, get started!! Appreciate the kind words and always enjoy following your channel and beautiful Butter Pig. Definitely stoked to get these big gals together one of these days! 🔥 All the best brother!!
How do I get your life? This is my dream life - including the dog! I've wanted to put a train in the backyard my entire life. I enjoyed every minute of this video - well done (video and train)!
Wow thank you very much!! 🙌🏻 Grateful to have gotten into the hobby and started my collection at a young age (and finding this piece of land for the RR was pure luck as it’s always been a dream for me too), but the best time to start in the Live Steam / backyard railroading hobby is right now!!! Cheers & thanks again, best of luck with your future railroad as well!!! 🔥
@@TheSteamTrainMan Absolutely, great catch!!! The music licensing on this channel is a nod to that movie having a huge influence on my restoration work 20+ years later. Although my NKP 311 is a 4-6-2 Pacific, I’ve detailed this locomotive to “represent” similar modifications made by Nickel Plate to locomotives like 587 as they came onto the roster from various roads.
Looks amazing!! For long term, I would insulate the shed or maybe make a spur to go into shop so the locomotive can stay out of any humidity or anything that would make the boiler sweat. From experience with my buddy that has built a few live steam locomotives, he says if you can dry the boiler and store it dry it will last.
@@vettebecker1 Thank you! Apologies if it wasn’t clear in the narration of this video, this shed was just built to temporarily house the locomotive for one week between arrival and gaining access to my shop. We would never store a locomotive outdoors :) This is now used as a fair weather storage shed.
They sure are, bottoms are also char-treated. This entire shed was lifted and moved back in April, and placed on top of a nice gravel pad for better drainage. The idea for this foundation-less shed was just to utilize materials I had, and it only really needed to exist for one week to house the locomotive inbetween arrival and gaining access to my shop. Anything beyond that has been a bonus, as long as it’s still solid we’ll keep using it for a car barn or fair weather storage! 🔥 Thanks very much for following along!!!
Thanks very much, Lee!! Hope you’re doing well and getting into some fall weather up there! Sadie does love to ride along, she’s been a great sport helping out with track work this summer. The bigger issue is that she loves to chase our family of deer!!! Also working to build more wire fence to make sure she stays on our farm when we venture out into the woods for longer rides 😁 Hope to see you guys soon!!!
@@johnlipsey3866 Hey there! This was a 22 ton truckload of screened 1/2-1/4” crushed limestone, roughly 12 yards loaded dry but hard to know exactly. I paid just under $700 per truckload of material. I’m in TN and work directly with a local quarry, but since I don’t have a dump truck and I’m out in the country, I’m also paying a flat rate of $150 to my driver per load. Altogether, this is still about 1/4 the price of the previous two quotes I received from “gravel companies”, and the quarry is extremely responsive and great to work with as they have loads of business with highway contracts, etc. and are always ready to load within an hour. Definitely highly recommend going straight to your local source if possible!
Hello FIRRC. Nice to see you out running the new addition to your roster. Shortly after you were there, I saw that heavy weather rolled through the area. Do you know if there was any significant damage to the facility? Any plans to try Eagle Point? Hope to see you in a couple of months. Keep keeping us entertained. OPRR
Thanks Mr Lee!!! Great to hear from you as always- hope you’re enjoying the running season!! Luckily MSLS facilities didn’t see any damage from that storm and everyone was safe that I know of, although unfortunately there was some significant carnage around the city they’re located in. Sadly I don’t think I’ll have a chance to get to any more meets this season, although I’m dying to come back up and run with you guys!!! Hopefully I’ll squeeze a SCRR trip in next year. I’ve also heard that Dulce might be a bit too big to fit through several spots at Eagle Point, so I might need some buddies to take measurements for me before I make the drive there 🤣 but hoping to visit Mill Creek in OH one of these days too for sure!! Hope you guys have a great Fall Meet and hope to see you soon 🔥
Steam at night with lots of background lightning - what could be cooler!? Not to mention the glowing end of the poker dancing around. Great stuff, Jimmy!
Thanks very much, Dave!! Really appreciate it, we had a blast even with the wet weather! I wasn’t sure how this footage would turn out as I had forgotten my large floodlight, but figured I ought to share something while the next 2 railroad updates are still brewing. Hope you’re well, and hope your steam season has been great so far!!! 🔥
Great video, Jimmy! Nice to see No.5 out and about (despite the rain). A friend is slowly building a Sweet Creek variant, so I should be able to experience a ride-in loco one of these days (though I fear it may ruin me for my ride-on stuff!). That Pacific DOES sound terrific - things don't get more square than that! And I don't recall seeing a chain-driven trailing truck before. Very cool. Definitely looking forward to your update on the home railroad. Take care...
Thanks so much, Dave!!! We definitely enjoyed our visit to MSLS, really amazing what they’ve done with the space, and how much the town park’s infrastructure has grown around the railroad. I think you’ll love riding in the cab too!! It’s really apples to oranges, I still crave running my 1” stuff just as much, but it definitely satisfies the “big throttle” itch for me and I pinch my fingers much less 🤣. I’m still painfully behind on video-editing here, but the railroad is coming along quickly now with the addition of my new Kubota! Moved 25 tons of ballast last week, 25 more delivered. Hopefully I can finally extend an invitation for you guys to come run one of these days!! Hope you’re doing well! 🔥
@@FoxIslandRailroadCo I'm definitely less comfortable on my 4-3/4" gauge stuff now than I used to be. Looking forward to finishing my 7.25" engine one of these days. Wow, that's a lot of ballast! Kubotas look like really nice tractors. My old Massey-Ferguson is approaching 50 years old, but it makes life so much easier around the railroad, even on my little pike. 🙂
@@rockyridgeshops7109 That’s awesome! Always really enjoy watching the progress on your big engine, she’s going to be stunning!! I’m also a bit jealous of your older machine to be honest haha, unfortunately the used market is so crazy down here that I couldn’t find anything for a suitable discount to new. That being said, I did get super lucky with this machine and I’ve been loving it so far, so I’m grateful this one found me!! 🙌🏻
@@FoxIslandRailroadCo Thanks so much. And don't be jealous of my old clunker - it's old enough to be worn out, but not old enough to be a "classic!"😆 (Sort of like me 🤣) Hope we get to see that new Kubota in future vids.
Hey there! Great question, this is actually Not an RMI loco but an earlier, slightly smaller and sturdier predecessor- Dulce was designed and built in Perth, Australia by Willis Light Engineering. The RMI locos are slightly simplified, still great locos, I believe I’ve run almost every wheel arrangement they offer over the years. Like anything, it depends who builds the kit… but overall, they’ve always been great locos for most hobbyists needs! I will relay that I’ve heard folks having trouble getting ahold of RMI the last 6 months or so, may be worth waiting to send a check to see how that plays out. I’m a big fan of the RMI catalog myself, so I sure hope all is well!! There is a small blurb on the loco’s history in the description if you’re interested, and I look forward to sharing more of Dulce’s story soon. I do highly recommend (and really enjoy) the “ride-in” style locomotives if you have the space and resources to maintain, it’s a whole different experience both maintaining and operating for sure! Cheers 🔥
I saw your locomotive out running when I arrived to unpack on Thursday, but unfortunately not sure if I had a chance to grab any shots of your run for the longer video!! We fought the rain to run Friday afternoon but ended up getting a great night run in, and Saturday was beautiful though I had to head home. Hope to run with you next time, beautiful locomotive!! Always loved the C. P. Huntingtons 🔥
Man unfortunately no, I saw it, but just missed it with the camera!!! Hope you guys had safe travels and look forward to seeing your vids for sure!! Good luck with the phone fix too 🔥
