Welcome to roadless roaming! Subscribe and travel with me through Africa. :) My name is Ben, and I follow my dream to travel as many countries as possible on the African continent and learn and find out as much as I can.
Great videos - and informative for those of us coming after you. Thank you. What mix of Go Pro/360 are you using? I love the TPF video game style - Insta360? All the best. Travel safe.
Thank you! At the moment there are no videos as I still don't have a new/fixed laptop. So sorry for that first of all. I am using a DJI Action, Insta360. In the future there will be a drone. Fingers crossed I will find a solution for the laptop. Thanks for watching!
Nice people. Very bad luck with the water and the camera. Maybe putting it into dry rice helps, if you find some somewhere. It’s supposed to dehydrate. Good luck and take care 💙
I understand a bit French. You’re translation is very good. The man of course speaks a different accent, but was very easy to understand. Thanks for this personal insight 👌🏻👏🏻
I am on a side where every human or group of people (in this case a country), have their freedom and the rights to choose independence if they wish to do so. Everything else is only a view full of hate and greed which leads to crime and war. I guess you are Muslim? If so, then respect everyone else and treat everyone equally, like your religion tells you, without forcing your personal, egoistic and narcissistic opinion on someone else.
@@roadlessroaming I agree with you, my dear brother, but in this case, the so-called Western Sahara is not a 100% humanitarian issue or a liberation issue as you think, but rather it is an issue that Algeria created and is paying a lot of money to divide and isolate Morocco. It also wants an outlet to the Atlantic Ocean, this is clear to everyone.
Thieves.. If you proved you didn't use it then what's their problem? I thought they'd do you for the camera recording at the border first. Wait till you get home and then go to the embassy and demand your £1000 back! Should've smashed it up to spite them. They just haven't invested in infrastructure that won't allow the missuse of drones around airports or military establishments, easier to stay in the dark ages and just ban them. If you hadn't used it you honored their rules so they shouldn't have stolen it. If you're passing through why should your work suffer because they are too lazy to sort out their infrastructure. It's not like they haven't had plenty of time, drones aren't new are they? You still have other countries to cover and it's a tool for your work creating footage that isn't harmful to any governmental/civil operations that drone operation is wisely forbidden around. Stealing is still stealing if you followed the no flight rules. You respected their policy, they should respect you back, not abuse their power and steal your stuff. It's outrgeous!
I really like how you allowed your guide to speak at length in his own language about the situation in St Louis. This is what I wish more travel vloggers would do, as it provides a much more in-depth knowledge about a place. Thanks, and keep it up!
Yes absolutely. I try to talk to as many locals as possible and ask then about their view and opinion. Understandably most don't want to be on camera. I try to implement this more and more as these kind of things are the topics which move me the most and change my view on many things. Thanks for your feedback and thanks for watching. 🙏🏼
If you leave comments on the video, please leave them on long enough, so that everyone can read them, they need to be on the screen longer, only 10 or 20 seconds more would make this much easier, if you want us to follow your vlog.
The price for the carnet is not the problem mostly. But if you don't have a bank who supports you with the Carnet de Passage, who have to put down a deposit of a certain percentage of your car. And that depends on your country. For me, that was simply not possible.
Interesting video. 250 EUR is way expensive I suppose but then I am sure the cake has to be shared with many. What is the name of the Mauritania / Senegal border? Name of the border towns in each country.
Thank you. :) It is crazy expensive, considering that one doesn't pay that when entering from the south for example. It's the Diama Border. Rosso, the other border in the north is even worse. It's known to better be avoided.
@@roadlessroaming I heard of that cost`s without the carnet. It is nothing compare what to pay for the carnet. And considering may also if you loose it... The carnet is "just" one year valid. You are documentfree on the road. enjoy it. Danke für das mitnehmen!
@fa7842 That's true! The document is just borrowed and you have to organise the return after one year if I remember correctly. And you have to get a new one. I already forgot about those things. The only positive thing is, that you don't have to argue as often at the borders. And is you lose your car for any reason, most likely in an accident, you have to try to get your deposit back. Basically it's a bit headache for a small benefit.
Sorry right, I didn't explain. The "Carnet de Passage" ( sometimes it has different names) is basically the passport for the vehicle. You have to put a deposit down for your car, which was too expensive for my taste. The river is just called River Senegal as far as I know. It's not a very big one and follows the border of Mauritania and Senegal. Thanks for asking and thanks for watching! 🙏🏼
Any vehicle searches when entering Senegal? And I forgot to ask… how did you go about getting a SIM card while you were in Mauritainia? I’ve heard it’s not easy?
I didn't have my car checked, it didn't seem like anyone would care to be honest. I got a Sim card before entering Senegal which was super easy. A bit expensive compared but okay. My priority was having internet once I enter. No registration, no nothing. :)
We never got to meet any of the people. This was the most boring this video I ever saw, and I’ve seen many of your videos. They’re all boring. You got a lot to learn about being a videographer.
The gift asking will get worse but there is good medicine; tell them that you have been in contact with the Ambassador and they advised you not give any gifts (or money or coffee money, or beer) because that can easily be misinterpreted or misunderstood as illegal or corrupt! And we both don't want that right ??? 😄. It worked well for us... And it actually was a tip from an Ambassador.
Greetings Ben. It was a pleasure sharing some of your journey in Fajara. Just remember Ben be mindful of others trying to take from you. You're going to learn amazing things. Be blessed on your journey.
It absolutely was a big pleasure for me too. The days in Fajara have taught me a lot. A very valuable experience for sure. Good luck and all the energy for your life journey! 🙏🏼
Thank you. I heard that the Richard Structure is only really visible from above and nothing too special when you stand nearby. And as the roads there are pretty hard on the car I have decided to not go. (And many other reasons)
Absolutely! That reminds me of something very interesting maybe. The creator of this car spent a lot of time developing this car. It all started very small with the base car and a roof top tent on the pickup bed. It wasn't created from scratch but rather with experience. Very often we lack that patience ending up changing so many things, rather than starting small and growing with our needs for the journey. Of course that's not always possible and that's why I bought it rather than build. Next time I know what I like and can create something tailored. I never put it on a scale but I guess it weighs around 2.5t fully loaded. :)
forum.buschtaxi.org/viewtopic.php?t=31761&start=105 I don't know if a link works, that's the nerdy history of my Hilux. Maybe it's useful to some people. :)
@@roadlessroaming how you go about designing something to scale in Fusion 360 that can be fabricated by a sheet metal shop. I suspect many people building rigs would like to have things like custom brackets made.
It's actually pretty simple. I haven't done any of this before and I had to learn it for the car. Usually, it's just about precise measuring. If it's more complicated and can't be measured easily, I take a picture from as far away as possible (for little distortion and perspective warps), use it as an imprint for the first steps in Fusion. The 3D printed interior light in the car is done that way. Works perfectly.
Yes airing down makes a world of a difference. I have lockers but bead locks? That's something you will never need on an overland tour. Maybe it's something you are cool with in the US of A but far, far away from being a real life essential.
It’s worth mentioning that camping on the beach in Morocco is not allowed… if the coastguard or Police see you they will most certainly ask you to leave. In my experience it’s better to go inland where I don’t get seen or raise any attention.
Very often the police or military came around and asked me for my passport. It usually was okay to park and stay there then. But it could happen that they ask you to move.
Well, overall I didn't do too much on it. But even those few things, considering planning, learning how to do things like wiring, ordering parts, testing and changing stuff, I was working on the car for 2 years roughly. That includes things I didn't mention like rebuilding the front axle, planning and ordering a handmade radiator for the engine and many more little things. And everything while working of course. It's always possible to find more and do more to prepare. But in the end it's still not perfect.
No unfortunately not. But they are easily designed in any 3D program. And then order them from pcbway or similar. (not sponsored, just lacking other examples)
Hello and welcome to my channel. :) I am glad you like it. I can totally recommend doing it. Make it as simple as possible and don't wait too long. As soon as you hit the road, many seemingly important things don't matter anymore.
Hi Ben! What an amazing experiences that you are having! Thank you so much for sharing them!! Im going in November to Mauritania and i was wondering if there is another way to go from Chingetti to Terjit and avoid going to Atar again to reach Terjit. It looks like you did it on a gravel road right?
Hello! Thanks for reaching out. Yes there is, Google Maps doesn't show it and Osmand only does it when you put it to Walking mode. However, you can easily drive it, even with a 2wd. This is the location of the left turn when you come from Chinguetti. Coordinates: 20,5081921, -12,8269813 Google Maps Coordinates: 7CG9G55F+76 After that you simply follow the road until you reach the main road again where you turn right. Both turns are in the video for visual reference. ;)
Yes please..ime building something similer also on a hilux .but a single cab .out of foam and fibreglass ..did you build it yourself.what fitment were used and what materials were used.what would you change next time ..ime binge watching your videos there great thanks for the reply cheers des
Sure! Will try to fit everything in the video. Maybe I do more than one. Will see. It's not easy to juggle everything while travelling. Especially as it's my first time doing all this. :) Thanks for watching btw. I am glad you like it!
interesting to follow you, i did a similar tour with a toyota like yours from san francisco to buenos aires, tok me 8 month. My next tour is hopefully from northern Norway to southern Africa. Best vibes from Norway😃
Never a dull day eh! Good to know there are alternatives to the more expensive supermarkets… do you know the name or location of the one you showed us? What’s the story with your phone almost being stolen?😳
There are enough days which are boring or where nothing happens. But that doesn't make it into the video. I try to show as much as possible from daily life though. The store is somewhere in Nouakchott. Near the big Galeria AS supermarket. But you can find these stores everywhere. It's just not worth it going to a big one in my opinion. The phone story... Many people asked me to take photos of them at the beach as I was carrying my camera. After I took portraits of two guys, they stood to the left and right of me to "look into the camera". One of them reached into my pocket with two fingers, but I saw it and asked him if he really knows what he was doing. Dealing with this calmly or even in a joking way is mostly the best thing to do in my experience. :) I don't have any footage of that unfortunately.
