Please show the dog you are talking about when you describe it. It's confusing and distracting to listen to the description of one dog while continually seeing the other.
Are you kidding Bull Terriers ( I owned one ) stupid useless poor site ugly Wire haired pointing Griffin brilliant great family pets and the best mate for a hunter and companion dog
I had one for 13 years. A male. Never had an issue with him roaming. We lived in a neighborhood in a small town. Average size yard with neighbors on each side of my house. I took him out every morning for a 1-2 mile walk and some retriever work in the evenings. After he was a year and a half old, he was very calm and laid back. I could leave him un-crated alone for hours and never had an issue. We traveled all across the country during hunting season and he traveled well. Strange motel rooms or cabins never bothered him. Miss that guy. RIP Magoo.
WPG is my favorite breed. This all sounds about right. If you are considering a WPG you need to know two things. 1) They need daily off leash exercise. 2) You can not leave them alone.
WPG can not be left alone. They must be with their person or yes they will bark/cry/howl none stop. Otherwise they only make noise when playing or alerting.
I could leave mine alone for a few hours with no issues. I even set up a video camera to watch what he did. He paced from the front windows to the back door the first few minutes then laid down on his bed till I returned home.
Absolute rubbish. Under no circumstance should a WPG be considered for a therapy dog. The WPG is primarily a bird hunting dog thus requires a couple hours of rigorous daily activity. Which if they receive turns them into great companion animals. If not, then you shoes, pillows and rugs will all be on saved on Amazon for frequent reorder. While WPG's are wonderful dogs and my personal favorite; there are countless other breeds that would make better therapy dogs.
Hi-would you mind elaborating? I am considering this breed and have kids, so if they aren’t good with kids that would be important to know. Thank you!!
You must be thinking of the German wire haired pointer. I have a 4 year old female Griff and this video describes her perfectly. She’s the perfect dog and goes to work with me every day.
They are the best familydogs - 8 month 3 and 5 years no problem at all. Approaching the little ones very soft not running over them. Taking treats out of their hands so soft and slow. Ours lives in the middle of the family not kept outside separate. I have my 3rd one now and all have been like this. They all are females - so i can not talk about a mal gwp
These are absolutely not and should never be "apartment" dogs. Sure they could live in an apartment if they are being excersized outdoors daily and worked. They have a prey drive. It's cruel to provide them any less.
Please don’t over sell this breed for profit. They are wonderful companions, but demand a lot of attention and exercise. They are not suitable for casual dog owners.
They are not for a restricted environment and need copious amounts of exercise. If you can provide this, then they are fabulous friends. But they must be worked every day!
You have recommended them for apartments and this is completely irresponsible. They require immense amounts of exercise and are not designed for apartments or homes with only a fenced backyard. Please hear my plea. I have one who is a wonderful friend, but lives on 100 acres and is exercised twice a day!
This is absolutely insane. These dogs need at least two hours of exercise every day. They also need very much intellectual stimulation every day. You will be very unhappy if you live in a small space. Please don’t subject these wonderful dogs to this environment!!!
