First time viewer. I guest the algorithm suggest you because I like Shop Tour Videos. :) Nice shop tour! If I can make a suggestion, move your mic. You can hear almost every time you swallow. I'm looking forward to seeing some of your other videos. Thanks for sharing.
Hey there, Nice shop tour - need to do one this year myself. You make some really cool stuff and your shop looks like an amazing space. I need to take your lighting advice. Keep up the videos you earned a sub! Regards James One Handed Maker - Australia
At the 4:45 mark: The company that makes your cyclone system is named for the Native Americans who were the original inhabitants of the Syracuse, NY area where the company is located. “Oneida” can be tricky to pronounce. While it looks like “One-ee-da”, it’s actually “Oh-NYE-da”. Thanks for a great shop tour vid; I am also fed up with my shop and on a mission to have a shop wherein I can walk up to what I need and not have to move anything to get to it… ;)
Hey, great shop. My shop was a two car garage with all the machines and other tools space was a problem. I agree open area is great to have my shop was a bit too crowded but I made it work. Again great shop.
Nice shop! When it comes to get better dustcollection on tablesaw it will need as much air coming in as going out so if you close it to much the suction will suffer. Iam pretty sure because I did exactly as you😊
WoodChuckChick give yourself a pat on the back Preston, I've been trying to finish my kitchen cabinets for so long it makes your project seem like the speed of light.
This is awesome, thank you for posting! I have the same electrical issues that you use to have, curious what model the dust collector is? Was hoping to upgrade from my Harbor freight one but am limited to 15A circuits in a rented space
Interesting video, couple of items of constructive feedback: 1) I believe you're using those shop vac hepa filters the wrong way. That is, if you think about how a shop vac is designed, the suction source is INSIDE those filters and the dirty air hits those filters from the outside. In your design airflow is going in the opposite direction (inside out rather than outside in) to what those filters were designed for. No idea how much that impacts your results but I can guarantee it does impact it negatively. 2) You say you might look at designing a new dust shoe in the future. Well, you're right that it is far and away the largest factor in poor airflow in the system. You've got your new 3D printer now, I think this should be prioroity #1! You've invested in the cyclone, but that investment is wasted without a redesigned dust shoe that doesn't restrict airflow, and a different filter setup that uses filters for the airflow to go in the proper direction. My .02 cents. All the best!
After a year of use I haven't made any changes to the dust collection system because it works. Yes the filters are designed to have air flow through the opposite way but dust doesn't escape them and the dust collection from the cut surface functions at an acceptable level. The dust shoe is the weakest link but after a year of use it actually works good enough.
I too LOVE the idea of machining! One day I hope to have to the time to learn it. I liked the "tent" wood storage. What part of the world are you in? We moved to the midwest and it's SUPER humid here and I would be afraid of my wood getting ruined being outside even if it's covered. 3: Remember, you have VERTICAL space too! You're lucky. Use it where you can.
That might true with some types of concrete but not with the stuff I used here. It's reenforced with glass fibres and hardens to over 1200 psi, also this coffee table is two years old now and gets daily use and still looks brand new!
Thanks for this video; it hits home. I feel better knowing I am not the only one going through this. Just seeing you overcome this and push forward was excellent. I must do the same, finish the projects I started, and enjoy the process. Keep up the great work.
@@UrbanShopWorks oh interesting, I have a 2 piece fence that slides into the table saw fence and I have 2 stops set up so I just slide it over to the router table.
I can relate to the feeling, but remember “not to let perfect stand in the way of good.” The finished prosecution is pleasing to the eye and functional. What your daughter will remember for the rest of her life is that her dad made her a special desk - priceless.
Yeah, I gave up on perfection a long time ago. I realized I wasn't likely to achieve it so I learned to settle for functional and no big glaring faults. Makes me happier and I don't regret it. Example. I'm about finished with a model airplane building bench for my hobby room. It has seven drawers. Five of them have errors. I was able to correct or compensate for them, but perfect they ain't. Functional they are and once the face covers are on, no one will notice.
Oh sorry I misunderstood, that's A sliding table attachment that bolts onto my table saw. most saw manufactures make them for their cabinet saws. Mine is a king Industrial same as my saw@@robertvose4293
Ricky this desk has been in my shop for so long that I dont know what my shop looks like without it! Thanks for watching. I’m so stoked to put this build behind me
Great video, dude! I really resonated with your comment about the sweet spot of projects - I have a ton of half-finished pieces that in the end were too simple to be interesting enough to compete for my time. It's the ones that ae just a bit too scary for me to want to start that are the ones I know I'll learn the most from trying - and I need to be ok with them not turning out perfectly first time. I love that you committed and finished this piece - looks like a solid desk in the end!
Hey thanks! I’m glad to hear my video resonated with you. I’ve battled with procrastination on a lot of projects and I am really trying my best to figure out how to beat it. Thanks for watching!
Hey Preston firstly I love the desk but I love your story and your honesty even more . I can identify with your emotions so easily. Thanks for making such a great inspirational video. Cheers man
Hey, it's not the best looking desk. Is it better then I can build at the moment, absolutely. I think if you are watching these videos to always see an amazing outcome, you are missing the point. There is nothing better then learning from someone else's mistakes and for that I thank you. No one is born a professional. Great video!
