I feel bad for this guy cause I feel likes he’s seen as PQ Go to understudy or replacement when he has his own vibe to him.He’s very tough and I feel he’s very stiff as Javert is supposed to.
Great performance. I can see he has used Philip Quast as an influence on his interpretation of Javert, definitely similarly sung though with a bit of his own flavour, and using many of Quast's inflections. I approve.
The verses leading up to the big Noyes weren't my favorite. But by far her belting notes were my favorite ever. And even if she was showing off ( which she wasn't) she has the right to cause that girl can saaanngg
I've always loved Michaerl McCarthy. He played Javert briefly in Melbourne Australia back in 1999. Such a strong presecence plus uber friendly in person.
I saw diana kaarina (wong at the time) perform as Meg Giry in phantom and she was really good. Her voice was even squeakier then for the role. This is not my fave but she still does a great job- i wish I could sing that well! I think the real eponine in hugo's book was supposed to be whiney so the squeaky voice fits.
Yeah Megs tend to not be the strongest singers since she's usually cast based on dancing skills rather than singing (and yes I'm aware this is an 8 year old comment)
inside information for you... this was her final performance and the conductor joked for a long time that he'd make her hold that note forever and since this was her last night... he did! So not her fault, just so you know.
Um, actually, it IS McCarthy (witness many of the previous comments). He has a very different quality to his voice than Quast, plus a slightly different accent--McCarthy is Irish and Quast is Australian.
okay the whole song seemed like it was just plain ok to me until it got to her 10 second "knooooowwwn" at the end and then i just got chills everywhere. that was pretty freakin cool.
